my thoughts before watching: people are switching (me included) bc of increasing subscription prices, lack of actual ownership over our music, and ad free/nothing other than music. No internet required too

The sad thing is, there were always much better MP3 players out there than the iPod for anyone looking to simply play music and detach from online systems. The iPod was always about market saturation, tying you into Apple's ecosystem, and being as disposable as possible.

@@FurlugeI don’t think so. I just picked one up so I could mod it. What other old mp3 players could you get and mod and keep running 20 years later? I don’t use it with a Mac or anything. Just windows. Once my extra parts come in I’ll be loading up rock box and won’t need iTunes at all. I use CDs
@AntonioBarsanio2 ай бұрын
@@Furluge Nah, that is not true. SOund quality in the ipod touch is amazing hooked to a good quality speakers. If you are talking about the old Walkman, yes that was amazing sound quality but you need lots of tapes and expect the tear and wear of those cassette tapes also. You can't find a song as fast as you do in an ipod. You can store many albums at the same time in an ipod so there is great advantage over magnetophonic tapes.

My reasons for using DVDs again: 1) No ads 2) They can't remove them from my collection whenever they please. 3) They're mine, and I can lend them out freely. 4) If the internet goes down, my DVDs still work. 5) No auto-play "Watch next" previews. 6) Bloopers and special features/deleted scenes. 7) No logins or passwords to remember/locate.

I have gone back to physical media because I could not find the music I wanted and streaming services could never figure out what I wanted to listen to anyways. I still had my old iPod from back in 2008 and it has been wonderful to get back into listening to exactly what I want to.

iPods also go hand-in-hand with the right to repair movement (at least with the Classic and Mini models anyway), there's a huge community of tech enthusiasts who open up their iPods and either repair or even upgrade them past their original limits. Because iPods are a mature and well-understood technology, there is plenty of documentation available as well as custom parts to do this and anyone with the right tools can get into them, which is not something that can be said with the likes of modern smartphones. Not only do you own your music, you own your hardware too!

straight off the bat - the only thing i would recommend as an improvement for this video would be to use a dedicated microphone going forward - the built in one ain't cutting it far too echoey; propping up your iPhone upside down just in front of you on the desk would be a vast improvement other than that - editing looks good, the framing and setup in the back looks great - this looks to be some good work ✌

So, I actually am using a Rode shotgun mic. I need to figure out how to get it closer to my mouth to make the sound better. For this video the sensitivity was too high which is why it sounded echoey I think. Thanks for the feedback, I was thinking the audio needed some work so I’ll look at that straight away

I still download MP3s, I use streaming services more for discovery than as a replacement for local music. My sister gave me her old iPod(which I gave to her years ago), and I've considered modding it with flash memory, bluetooth, wireless charging, USB-C... but then I'd still have to deal with iTunes, and I don't want to subject myself to such masochism. Pro tip for everyone who wants to get an iPod and not spend a lot on music, get a laptop or any computer with iTunes a disc reader for the computer if it doesn’t have one anda library card, borrow music cds from the library and import them to iTunes then return the cds after the music is safe in your iPod, same with audiobooks

There are apps that let you play your own music from a folder on your iPhone. That way I always have a selection of albums with me. They’re mine and can’t be removed by a streaming service. I don’t think I’m ready to go back to an iPod. Although at this point the only thing keeping me on this device are the nice cameras. Maybe one day I’ll go back to a feature phone. 🤔
@Mabayu16 күн бұрын
There are yeah, but anything that technically connects to the internet could eventually have its stuff lost due to either security flaws in updates, or blacklist of support of said feature, or anything other rather that harms that way of playback. It could happen, it could not, very unlikely but still in the realms of possibility. The only way of them taking away whats on my ipod is to physically take it from me, which they wont be doing even if they tried.
