I think it's worth noting that Miller and Cobalt having less communication is to be expected. I can only speak from experience for Miller, as that's where I play, but here Command Chat is done in English. That's a long running established comunity rule, and if you talk in command in other languages, you'll get a bunch of different people asking you to keep it to English. Whilst it's a very common second language throughout Europe, it is still a second or even third language for most of it's speakers here. Over all, some groups are also fairly well known for keeping to themselves and not wanting to game in second languages; A lot of Russians and, oddly enough, the French, fall into this. So we have things like RUlN pop up, where all of the russians got together for outfit wars, or 1FR who are a competent midfit but never communicate with anyone because of the language barrier. Even inside public platoons, you'll see people following orders but not talking, and I wonder how often that's because they're players who don't speak english that have learnt specific words and orders and are perfectly capable of knowing what "beacon" means but not really speaking the language. Naturally, the American servers just don't have this issue.

From my experience if I speak in platoon chat I am automatically promoted to squadleader which I do not want. Its just a hassle to tell PL about that so I rather stay silent

Its definitely the language but I think its more like 10% dont want to talk because they dont understand English and 90% dont want to talk for a similar reason as myself, while I am pretty much fluent and in some cases even have a larger vocabulary than some native English speakers simply due to how much English media I have and am consuming on a daily basis, last time I spoke English for more than like half a sentence was probably a good 10+ years ago. It takes time to get used to speaking a language and its honestly super frustrating knowing how everything is spelled and sounds like but having 0 muscle memory of forming the word so it takes a fair bit of actual concentration to do it, lots of languages pronounce things differently so jumping from one to another requires you to not just swap words but also HOW they are said. That is kind of the opposite of what you want to get out of using voice comms in a game, its supposed to be easy and effortless so you can convey information quickly and reliably while you focus on the game itself. A lot of people also feel shy/ashamed for their lack of good pronunciation even if its completely understandable to anyone hearing it.

American servers can more easily communicate but Americans lack culture in general when comparing them to the shear beast that is Europe for cultures that persisted to this day and age. Though that is a bit sad that the thing that sets the EU apart from america also holds them back socially.

Im Aussie. I moved to the Emerald server, for better population. Went back to Connery today as the Emerald Server Latency is just getting worse. Server ping is stable (260 to 320) but as soon as a hex gets high pop, my latency can go up to 30,000 ms, will sit around 1,000 to 2,000 and spike up to 30k. Away from the big populations the latency goes down to match the ping. Connery today, I got in to some really big battles on Indar and Latency matched my ping of about 180 ms, way more pleasant.

As an alaska player Connery is the only server I can really play on, its just frustrating that it's abandoned due to how the devs have neglected it

Забрасывал игру на долгие сроки, самый долгий срок на 5-6 лет, играл за республику и вану, как только мои знакомые перестали играть, Я перестал играть за республику, попробывл и за красных, но как то не очень... Играл с гланом DIG, рарьше мы были... Зергами) Но сейчас всё немного изменилось и Я уже не такой активный игрок, пиэр шлось даже аккаунт менять из за его взлома...😢 Но мне и многом другим хотелось бы обсуждать разные тактики и стратегии во время игры, но языковой барьер между разными языки... Как некоторые люди подметили, не англоговорящие пытаются что то как то сделать, но у них нечего не получается. Как же хочется вернутся в те старые МАШТАБНЫЕ СРАЖЕНИЯ...

I play on Emerald and I often turn the chat down if it is too distracting. Things have changed a lot over the years though. People used to use proximity chat a lot in the past. I rarely use my mic anymore.

I play mostly with random people when my Outfit are offline, they talk a lot in random platoons, sadly they speak english and since it's not my first language, it is hard to understand callouts, but yes, they do comunicate always, which i find it really good

on Connery if for example te TR starts winning an alert a few of them will swap to VS or NC and coordinate against TR and never fight each other

A thing to understand is that in Planetside 1, Emerald (East Coast) was the server with the most people, and thus the most of the large scale one platoon (3 squads) or more outfits, and a lot of the 'tryhard' outfits, though PS1 was more plodding and encouraged that sort of "RTS" play. Eventually, as the game was dying, it merged into one server -- Gemini. The outfit leaders overwhelmingly, but not whole-ly *picked one server*, Mattherson, and moved there, which eventually merged into Emerald. Vanu moved there as the most cohesive thing -- Some of us have approaching 20k hours in these games across 20 years. Azure Twilight (Now a ghost of it's old self) fielded 2 platoons, GOTR (still running, 1 platoon) fielded 3, and a few more of the big combined arms outfits, and new ones (I forget the old long gone ones, I'm so sorry). As a result of our veterancy, command chat had, from the start, a very firm Command Tone going on, and platoons updating other platoons on what they were doing. This trickled down to platoon leaders, which trickled down to squad leaders, etc. It's gotten way more lax, but it's still there during prime-time alerts. You might want to spectate sometime -- you can make a one-man squad and still join Command -- I think it will be insightful, though I know it'll be late for you -- maybe people can recommend some good streams for that. Over in GOTR (Of which I'm just a member, and AT when I was in there when it was active) we go a bit harder, and run multiple squads on teamspeak, and use Channel Commander as a sub-channel for our leaders to talk among the squads, allowing us to run infantry, tanks, and aircraft pretty well on thursdays. It lets our squad and platoon leaders delegate to other people -- just slap more people into the command channel -- and I wish more of the game had that level of consideration. The game plays best as an RTS-FPS hybrid, I feel -- once you (the reader, not the OP) start reading the map with that in mind, Emerald makes a lot more sense in terms of how our non-zerg platoons move. Often the organized platoons are almost cultivating the zerg, adding or removing pressure to guide it to better choices, pulling population away from the front you want them to push, etc. It's a big part of why Vanu is so strong even with the slightly worse weapons -- you can't nerf team-work, so you have to nerf the other things. I wish it were easier to get people to play NSO -- Officer Exchange Programs between factions and servers would go pretty far. I want people to see the magic of this game, and unfortunately so much of that is Just Emerald and has been for longer than this game has existed. It's also a thing that can only exist in this game, and nowhere else, which is why we keep coming back, even with long breaks sometimes. It's so hard to make this game what it needs to be, and the devs do keep deciding to go other directions, but so much of it is that we just need more tools for instructing new players and coordinating old players. And more objectives for small squads to do, so that new players can feel like they're doing something without the intimidation that comes with a large platoon.

I think there's also some noteworthy culture difference between shifts (I work night shift). I'm on NC on Emerald and I usually play late at night into the early morning. I rarely play at prime time because I'm either at work or sleeping in. Honestly the numbers are a bit overwhelming and the strategy is very much redeployside - hit U to switch to this other territory and overpop. I abhor redeployside, especially because the game mechanics actively discourage it, meanwhile platoon lead is screaming (DEPLOY TO TECH PLANT!) and NC pop will be 60% and rising and you can no longer click on the spawn, but the SCU will still be alive. We farm a lot and people will get mad at you for destroying enemy sunderer. There's also just way too many voices and people talking over platoon chat about everything, from calling out enemy reinforcements to the color of the dog they saw on their walk home. I prefer my 12man squads with like 4 or 5 people talking, but I get thrown into squad lead position because I'll be the only guy talking on those late night gaming sessions.

I Play on Emerald and Miller. ( with breaks here and there but never stopped a year ^^ since release across 2 accounts ) And TBH for me it's more a time thing. At the day I play at Miller and at night I switch to Emerald. But the Bigger Player count and fewer barriers like Language, Ping etc. on Emerald are better for Solo Players who only want to Co-op from Time to Time. (the player base on Emerald is bigger, therefore you got better experience for newer players) But I Personally prefer Miller, it just feels like the Players are better. I got killed more often, and long kill streaks are less common compared to Emerald. All tho - since 2 Years the Amount of Tankers has decreased quite drastically across all sides. But the Inf-fights are more challenging. ( For this statement, I don't count players below BR50 ! Bc the difference is huge when you count newer players ) And also: on Miller at the moment the NC is dominating, just like the VS on Emerald. But this changes from Time to Time ( once around half a Year up to one Year- it's more a vet thing I guess. We all need some Side/color switches ^^ ) BTW sry for my bad English

To anyone who may be watching this video I'm willing to create an outfit I'm not too sure on what to call it but one thing is for certain I'm active I main TR but I'm willing to try VS or NC but my thing is if you do join I just ask that you are active and have a mic if you don't have one cool you can join but please try to grab a mic I want to be competitive and tactical so let's do this thing I'll up date you guys on outfit name and first one to respond chooses the faction anyway I just want to make this game fulfill its potential

I know being in a Certain Huge fit on Millar officers Hate using the in-game voip and hang out using discord every day, and only use ingame voip on ops as we open plattoon to fill gaps. They say ingame bugs out too much. I play on different servers and see it Does work well even across the pond as I'm UK based. But they Still hate talking Ingame. This is a problem on Millar and I get vastly different stats depending on officers.

I decided to delete all of my Cobalt toons - Playing on Cobalt was pure suffering as NC. Especially painfull, after extensively playing with other factions. People on NC are dumb and blind, also seems like biggest subset of new players are on NC, like no c4, no lockons, no max weapons, nothing. Confused, lost. When you die friendlies run past, dont look what killed you, than you watch on map how they all die seconds later. NC only ever pushes with single Sunderer, than it blows up and fight is gone. Big contrast to what i saw in TR and VS. VS work together, spam sunderers, redeploy fast and react immedietly, when somebody dies around them. You can count on them. TR, as long as its not 3P3G, are dependable, medics rez, tank columns and sunderers everywhere and overall decent support. When its 3P3G - its literally NC zerg - blind, dumb, rush and die. Unlike NC tho, they dont get bored of it. Its just not worth playing on Cobalt.

Nc is general just less competent than other two factions i think,there is definitely some really competent outfits and some solos but except those NC is basically a handfull of blind,deaf,and dumb people running around.Medics dont heal,engineers dont work with maxes,and even ignore their existence,and every 10 seconds they get in front of you when you are firing,just so they can get the kills themselves.

Each character can be on a different server. First screen after you boot up the main game. Miller, EU = Good for organized gameplay Cobalt, EU = Good if you want an easier time Emerald, NA = The only US server worth your time. Connery is dead.
