I've played Planetside off and on throughout the last 5 years or so. It's a reliable FPS title to fallback on that I can really get into. I can't believe it isn't more popular as it is still a marvel of modern gaming, and basically is my dream game from when I was very young. I don't end up sticking with it for more than a couple months at a time because none of my friends like it. NONE of them. I think it is because of the steep learning curve and that feeling of being put through the meat grinder for hours on end. Once you get proficient in a role in this game, and find some regular squads to roll with, the game is immensely satisfying and humbling.

I remember my first time playing the game running around not even finding any other players. Then, like a miracle, a random dude ran into me and asked me what I was doing and I told him I literally have no idea. Well he helped me learn some basics LIKE HOW TO SPAWN TO ACTION and I have loves every moment since. But yes. There is no learning curve. There is a learning wall of despair if you do it alone.

hi im SizzleFizz, Connery server NC, outfit Legion of coffee. learning to lead platoons and getting a rank up in an outfit is probably one of the most rewarding experiences ive ever had in a game. i really reccomend trying to lead sometime. i think the biggest mistake i made when getting into planetside 2 was focusing on unlocking things instead of learning to enjoy the gameplay and winning because when you just play for a few hours without focusing on certs, you are surprised how many you get. i do reccomend making absolutely 1000% sure you want to spend certs on something before you buy it. try it out in the VR thing where you can try anything free. upgrades i reccomend are infiltrater cloak upgrades, vehicle stealth max on a sunderer, and trying the new building update because its much easier to get into. easy certs if you just grab an ant and go fill up peoples silos.

Honestly I find planetside can be as easy or as intense as you want it to be. When im looking to get kills and cert grind ill hop in my outfit and get the ball going. But there are days i just get off work and dont have the energy to focus on fighting, so ill turn on some upbeat lofi, grab my ANT with ammo dispersal and recon as an engineer and go around the field repairing and restocking armor whilst looking for stray infantry with the recon and my bulldog on the ANT. Its relaxing, and ur still being a massive help as everyone prefers thier shield or stealth sunderrerrs now so tanks more often then not still need ammo. Granted this is more if ur team is doing well, if not the other relaxing playstyle is being a bus driver. Works better with deploy galaxy, as i will usually pick people up making thier way to a fight and become a back spawn, if the forward spawn dies you go back, collect people, and repeat. Its not great for certs since ur not the main spawn, but its a no risk all reward playstyle for those still looking to help but arnt looking to fight.

Its cool in that way, you can really choose how you want to approach each play session. Wanna be chill, just play medic, infil to annoy and troll enemies, light assualt for suicide missions and then the heavy for the sweaty sessions

My only grip with PS2 are the microtransactions and mega-grind for certs. If you want any weapon without spending cash, you'll have to spend certs, and all skill/passive abilities are certs only.

i tried this game for the first time around 2 days ago and got hooked instantly, i love the huge battle and the feeling of taking a sector knowing that it only happened because u worked together as a team, there are some small problems here and there with the game but nothing really ruining the game or making the experience worse, to be honest if u like what u saw in the video i would strongly recommend trying it and seeing if it’s something for you because goddam this game is 10 years old and are better than most of the triple a modern games today

Just installed it today and honestly I'm on the same boat and I'm hooked on this game, I even have a friend who's a veteran who is teaching me the ropes and I really like the experience of such big battles maybe some little adventure looking around when out of combat and the fashion is quite nice especially with the gameplay and combat mechanics itself

@@Infernus25 Not the one who asked, but I still want to answer. I started playing this game when covid came around, so 2020. It was really fun, even though I was really really bad. I think it's for one: It's free, thus its easily accesible for anyone to try. But, what hooked me to the game was how different it is compared to other fps games. Most games are like CoD with a rather small map and you only a few minutes per match and you are just shooting for the most part. Planetside has this huge world with different bases with several fights going on, places have to be taken over and this whole feeling is just great. When locations are changed the driving with all the vehicles to the next location etc etc. is just very fun. Even if you're shit, it's fun. I remember constantly dying with a friend against one player, and it was fun trying to kill him and eventually being able to do so after 30 minutes or so. Unfortunately I wasn't able to continue one day since my computer randomly decided to disown planetside (it worked fine, I changed one thing and since then it doesn't work for whatever reason), thus I had a huge break, but I always wanted to continue playing this game. Now that I have access to GeForce Now I was able to play again, and it was just so fun. Mind you, I only had maybe 10 hours before my pc decided to disown that game, yet this game must be one of my favourite games I ever played and I'm glad GFN gives me the opportunity to play this game again.

Seems like you joined with a very open mind about it and not caring at all about KD which I think if new players come in caring too much about ,they wont stick around as they will be dying alot. Its interesting what youre saying about the driving between the bases cause that is what also made me initially interested in the game, and the in between fights are where this game really seems to shine. Its a bit of a shame that updates have been reducing this aspect as you can just hop between different bases alot easier now with spawn beacons and easier sundi soawning even across the map

@@Infernus25 Oh, yeah. I really don't mind about my KD. It is absolutely horrendeus now, hahah. But true, I think that KD is a big reason for many as to why they quit, especially considering Planetside doesn't have a system where you solely play against people on your level. With the beacons and such, I gotta admit. I do use them a lot, they're just very convenient, especially if I join and it's very advanced already. But, in the beginning where everyone uses vehicles or planes to reach the point they want to go to, that's really fun Imo. Or in a fight where we move forward with all the tanks and other vehicles we have. I recall that when I started, and there were a lot more players because of covid, it was way more common to drive from one spot to the other? Are the uptades only recent with the sunderers and beacons or did they already exist then and it just felt more common because there were more players?

I heckin love planetside 2. A chill fps game after maybe a few sweaty rank games in Valorant. Just enjoying the absolute chaos of armored vehicles clashing, bullets flying everywhere, explosion left and right, aircrafts overhead having dogfights and doing strafs on ground units, mass infantry moving around like ants. Its beautiful.

Takin my TR mech guy, and storming enemy strongpoints with flak cannon and chain gun combo, its up there with my all time gaming moments, I remember having over 250 kills in less than 45 minutes as I stormed building after building with my team, smashing everything in our way, I felt like a GOD, no other game has come close since, I patiently await PS3, if it ever comes.

It's been a couple years since I last played this game. I just wish the developers actually cared for it because it seems like they just abandoned it after a while, and I wasn't able to run it well because of the lack of optimization and my very mediocre PC. But damn if this game isn't one of the best FPS games that I have ever played. I just wanna mention... the settings might fuck with some people specially those like me who have low end pc... the default settings are almost set to a bit more high end pc like for example the render distance that are set to like Max on default 4k distance (which makes a huge diffrence in fps if players manually lower those down a bit 300-400 distance) if i didnt research what settings to change then i almost probably quit the game already the first hour of the game :(

@@swancky4890 you can but you don't have to. You can crank it to 300m in the in-game settings. You're pretty much never gonna engage any infantry at 500m so you can safely put it to 500, I would put tanks to 1000 and then aircraft to 1500. Anything higher is probably never gonna matter. Could argue for higher aircraft/tank render distance if you play planes alot.

Ive been playing since 2014 and yesterday I got my first NC Account on Miller to BR 100 :D. It Was a long grind tbh, but worth every second. To all new players out there I gotta recommend you to join big platoons. Most times there is a platoon leader who tells the people what to do. You will quickly notice what big of a difference it makes, if many people have the same target und work together. And people dont be afraid to use voice chat. There are many people who will help you out or give you tips :). I´ve just discoverd leading squads/platoons by voicechat since ive never really had the courage due to my english skills. Note to myself: Nobody gives a shit xd. There are many people who are searching for a proper leader, who contributes to the win of the faction in the alert. Planetside is and will be my favorite game forever but sadly none of my friends like it somehow.

Why im squishy eventho im using heavy infantry?Why all weapon bullet seems slow velocity? Is there op weapon?(i often get one shot in close combat). Btw i love this game so much. Many players aim for heads. You can go for body shots but if you can always aim for heads. And when you think players are near by stop sprinting as by the time your gun is in a firing position you’ll be dead. And they probably have upgraded abilities. Like assimilation where killing a player with a head shot restores x amount of shields and med kits to restore HP mid fights like while your opponents reload. If you get into light assault try out the ambusher jump jets it’s my favorite and I’ve bested many by simply screaming and flying at them with a knife/ shotgun it’s a fun ability

It is because of hit registration. It happens on your computer. So when someone has a bad connection and the hit registration still happens on their computer, they can hit you enough times to kill you before you even see it on your screen. Many people feel entitled to play on the wrong region servers and do this. If you understand this concept and pair it with proper movement and coverage, you can excel ingame.

You're not squishy, it's just the netcode. On your screen you died in 1 frame, on their screen they were shooting for 2 seconds, combined with bad connections it can make deaths unreliable but this shit happens in every single FPS game on the market. You just have to get used to the game. You're probably fighting experienced players so you're gonna struggle for a bit. Don't expect to win every fight always. Don't take fair fights. Use 'peekers advantage' don't let them peek you, peek them and shoot them. Don't hold the fire button for too long or your cone of fire becomes massive. 4-8 round bursts keep it accurate, you can shoot longer in close range but don't be surprised when bullets miss.

I really think it’s time to stop dismissing “salty vet” they’re clearly the ones who have been playing the game for the longest and have the most passion for the game. That’s why they get upset. When lattice lines were introduced I was running a Zergfit, I lost half a dozen pub platoon leaders because they refused to just barrel down these new “lanes”. They slowly fixed it years later by adding more and more connections. Ps2 should’ve been catering to pub platoon leads the most, they’re the most important players in the game, unfortunately they’re also the most neglected. And whenever they complained they got dismissed as “salty vets”.

Do you think the game would be more balanced if it had 4 Seperate factions, Zealous? When you think about any type of competitive sport it's rare to find any that uses the 3 team format. It seems to be something that always leads to an unbalance.

Could work, I gave it some thought and I'm not totally sure. I don't see what issue 4 teams would solve; I suspect just as much double teaming would occur. There would also be less players on each faction, smaller fights. Base layouts would have to be altered to account for different directions of attack.

If upper left faction attacked lower left, lower right faction also attacked lower left, then upper right faction would logically only be able to attack one of the currently double teaming factions, as otherwise it would require then to cut a line straight through the middle of the map in order to reach the territory of bottom left

That just means there'd be 3 factions teaming up against tf, not 2

@@atheistchaplain2991 if 4 factions have 1 corner of the map each, with factions 1,2,3,4 all moving in clockwise order, the factions 1 and 3 can never attack each other directly besides through a very narrow channel in the middle of the map, during which they will most likely be fighting at least one of the other factions simultaneously as well. If faction 2 and 4 double team faction 1, then it will be impossible for faction one to hold enough territory at the center of the map that faction 3 could even attack, meaning faction 3 will be forced to attack faction 2 or 4, encouraging said faction that pull back and defend, or risk getting cut off from the double team fight over faction one, both of which effectively end the original double team.

​@@itsabug4274 my advice is to spend some time on VR Training to learn the recoil of your weapons, yes it may be a bit boring but it will improve your skills. Stick to friendlies and look for big fights while you learn about the game, don't wander off too far from the group. If you go to smaller fights, my recommendation is this: Don't run around like a headless chicken, stay close to cover and be aware of your surroundings. And most importantly, don't buy new weapons as a new player, i know it looks tempting but your priority will be to upgrade the abilities of your class first.

And i also recommend going into active and organized squads, and finding an active outfit to be part of. Teamplay greatly enhances the feeling of the game.

I'll try out working with teams, though it kind of seems like everyone is just randomly running around dodging and returning spam. Toxic fanbase. I remember being TK'ed as the NC a lot and it pissed me off so much. The penalty for repeatedly teamkilling is that your weapon safety is locked for an hour. I don’t really know why they try to shame you when they could just turn FF off as a whole instead.

Intentionally TK'd or not? How many times have you TK'd allies? Are you running in front of allies who are trying to shoot enemies? Are you standing in front or behind allied tanks? Are you running into chokepoints where allies are throwing grenades and other explosives? I barely get tk'd and when I do they apologize and often I get revived anyways.

Honestly planetside isn't designed for what it advertises for, most of the bases in the game are meant for 24-48 on either side, when you double that, all you get is 2 blobs of people battling about a single choke point, whenever i play on non peak hours i really enjoy the game, you can actually do something other than getting farmed by a2g or hesh tanks. The base design of this game is horrible for large scale combined arms combat, so many tiny rooms that are exposed to hills that tanks can sit on, and when the base is open and designed for 200 players you get swarmed by a2g Vehicles in this game don't have anything to do but to farm infantry, they need a purpose other than that. I'm not hating on the game, i just think that it could be better if they implemented systems to cap player numbers in some bases or redesign maps entirely and protect infantry from vehicles sitting on top of hills 500m away.

That's a very fair critique, it's a pretty big issue with the game but the bases have certainly improved over time. Its probably hard to make every base capable of fitting in the largest of fights as they don't happen that often

Old/new player here. First impression - game is drastically different. In a good way. I think after all these years - performance was always the biggest limiter for this game. Now, in 2023 we have enough of power to run this smooth, and it makes all the difference. Fights were never this intense and big ever. Because in past there was this limit because of performance. So people avoided huge fights because it was horrible back then. Even on best CPU-GPU. This is no longer the case, and finally everything make sense. In a way, i guess this game was ahead of it's time. Which is ironic, considering how fucking outdated it looks today. Gameplay is still same, but everything now make sense. Well.. for the most part. I can't even begin to describe this shit show with "linked territories". It's such a convoluted mess that, i gave up. Clearly there is something wrong with tutorial for those who return to game. Basically - there is no such tutorial is what i am saying. I can hardly read anything on a map. This base linked to that location, and this linked to that.. so that mean i can capture this base, sure i am supposed to be able to capture it.. i think.. i can see all links.. and then NO YOU CAN'T CAPTURE IT, THERE IS NO LINK. Excuse me? Then what the fuck is going on with this line connecting to the base i am in right now? How the fuck does it works? Go figure. Many hours were wasted on this shit with linked territories and facilities. I still have no idea what the fuck is going on with the map. I like underwater combat, tho. But enough about game.. let's talk about BALANCE. Long story short - It's fucked. Simple way to put it - YOU ARE A CONTENT for veterans of this game. I just recently realized the REAL scale of shit i missed and the difference between me and THEM. If you want me to describe a difference between seasoned veteran with all exceptional perks, with multiple perks, with ability to use TWO FUCKING LMG's ON ASSAULT CLASS IN BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY WEAPON SLOTS! HOLLY FUCK, EXCUSE ME - HOW IS THAT EVEN LEGIT!? WHAT NOW?! IS THAT A THING?! And that's beside the skill ceiling. And compare all this to me - a scrub having to rely only on one primary gun, without any good perks, without fully equipped class abilities, with mostly locked equipment.. It's absolute shit. For new players to see lvl 5000+ player is a one thing, but when you get to know why this 5000+ player will always dominate you, and not only because he knows map better, but simply due to his perks, time that he invested - it all come down to shitty experience. Really shitty one. This game wants a lot from you. And the worst part, is that game somehow forcing you to join outfits (sort of a clan thing). I don't have this much time to join another clan or whatever it is in yet another game which i am probably not going to play next month. But i have to join them, in order to see entirety of game's content. That's fucked up. For new players this is a horrible experience is what i am saying. I don't think many new players can withstand so much shit dropped on them in instant. And consider this - they have to invest at the very least over a month to even fully equip their entire arsenal to be competitive to others. And after that they will lose interest to play. Knowing that, would you invest 1 month into this? Well, at least i found good use to my HOTAS in something that is not a space sim. F to everyone who is flying on mouse and keyboard.

Vet here, NPE is still up to the hands of the playerbase and those willing to teach newcomers. Yes, it may be frustating due to dying a lot, yes it's learning curve is like Tarkov's, but there are some points thay i want to add. -Those links that go from base to base are Lattice Links, it tells you wich base can be a attack from wich base. Having proper awareness of them is crucial, it dictates the flow of some fights as well as encircling maneouvers. -Most implants are more of an aid than a game changer. Mine Sweeper detects mines in a radius automatically, Jockey gives people on "open seats" (flash seats, harasser back seat and engineer turrets) extra resistance to damage, safe fall increases the distance from wich you can fall befpre dying, etc. It all depends on your playstyle. -People with weapons on secondary slots or using weapons not available to their class, is thanks to the ASP system, and no it doesn't allow you to run double LMGs, and again depends on your playstyle. If you feel you are being shreeded too fast, half of it comes from the skill of the other players and half of it comes from what you do. I recoomend taking your time on VR Training to learn the recoil of the weapons you use, and to not be afraid to ask for help/guidance to other players. I also recommend looking for squads that are organized and for active outfits, teamwork greatly enhances the gameplay.

I named just a few on which i am focused right now. I can talk about it for long, but i see no reason. My point is that there is a very high TIME INVESTING curve and then there is also an extremely high learning curve. The last part is what i like, the first part is what i am trying to tolerate because it's a "free to play" game. I get it, don't need to tell me to read this, to listen that. I am well aware in that regard. I know where to get needed information and how to make my own conclusion. The problem is - what i described is precisely the experience new players have. As i said it's a shitty one. It all comes to understanding, and how much time are they willing to invest into this game to grasp it, or not. And before that moment they will die a lot feeling they learning nothing. I am past that moment, but many others most likely not and will not. As for map issue.. while it is still a convoluted mess without any explanation whatsoever, i learned that apparently base that i was trying to capture, had this strange "capture flag X times" mod. No idea how i was supposed to figure that out. The fact it was so fucking hard to even read it from map interface, from the base design itself, and that i had to witness with my eyes how player supposed to capture this base - is telling me a lot. I think there need to be some sort of tutorial about base capture.. is what i am telling. Something like a screen with explanation of UI icons on map, what game wants from player and so on. Or maybe there is? Just not for returning players. And probably only once in a game. But i like that this game has this unique by today standards system of contextual coop. Meaning, that you don't actually need to interact with someone - game and sound design + voice macro gives you all information you or others need. And you feel like you are in a team but you don't actually have to sit in discord chatting about nothing, listen to pointless bla bla until your head starts pulsating out of pain. I am coming from the kind of players who are not competitive by nature, meaning, i would rather play in 4K ultra, than having absolute disgusting fucking potato on my screen coming right from X-BOX 360 era. Yeah, i know you all playing like that. I am pretty sure you simply forgot how this game actually looks, so trust me - Planetside 2 visually is a very beautiful game even after so many years. To think about it.. back in the days there was a goddamn PhysX. And people are playing it in potato mod to win about 3% dps or something. Yeah, i know - more FPS, more ROF. That's been so for entirety of shooters existence. Still, my best F for all of you there. Btw, Tarkov is much easier. The learning curve in Tarkov is actually exaggerated. Like.. ten times exaggerated. All you need is to learn the map and that's about it, you won in game. It's all about map knowledge and sound cues. Just saying. Did you noticed how i never mentioned cheaters? It's for a reason. Because there is none. No, i am not saying that game is completely free of cheaters, but if during my session i haven't encountered even one occasion, that's a good sign. I still haven't encountered them.

What's the problem with lattices and linked bases? It's pretty simple. You can capture a linked base if yours is secure. (If it's being captured by the enemy, you cannot capture their base, you have to defend your own base first.) The links are clearly displayed by the map, big lines connecting certain bases. I think it's a bit of a cope to say that veterans have better gear. You can get a ton of good stuff really quickly. Yes, some items are quite an investment while being important like C4 or medkits but the lvl 1 standard HA can fight just as much as anyone else. Implants or a faster regenerating shield aren't gonna make the difference in a 1v1. They're just some things to grind for and you get less downtime between fights as reward. What does 2 LMGs do except give you a secondary that takes forever to equip? When are you ever going to shoot so many enemies in a row that you need 2 LMGs? It's really misinformed to claim you need to grind for a month to be competitive, it's just not true. I can make a new character right now and my k/d won't be much different. Is the game new player friendly? I guess not but you need to invest time into a hobby to gain something out of it. There's no participation trophies or SBMM in Planetside 2. You have to fight and win. Flying on MnK is perfectly fine. You're not gonna immediately be a professional at it. It's going to take time, you have to learn to fly. The air combat is a bit inconsistent though but what can you do. The grind is long but you're not supposed to finish it. It's just a progression system to keep you engaged, to make every fight matter. If you unlocked everything in a few hours you would complain there's no content left and that there is no end game.

I don't know why you're being disconnected. If the warp console doesn't work, try redeploying with U and then clicking to the active continent via the map name at the top of the map screen. Maybe the game was having server issues or maintenance, or your internet was unstable

Tried PS2 for a grand total of 15 minutes after noping out 4 years ago + noping out around release, and this video skips over all the problems... It's still nothing but a giant spawn kill simulator. The UI has become even worse somehow, and it managed to crash my PC (a rare feat these days). There's nothing good about this game. It combines the worst aspects of all FPS games into one. Constant cheap kills is the entire goal. Bad netcode leading to wtf deaths. Rock/paper/scissors with vehicles. A great concept, but even then, 10six did a better job. I don't understand why anyone would stick with PS2, other than the sunk cost fallacy. There's a ton of games out there that are free and actually fun, and I suspect the only reason this shooter isn't dead is because of people who invested too much and aren't willing to pull out. If the entire game loop continues to focus on cheap ganking, nobody "new" is going to waste their time on this. Getting wrecked every 3 seconds by something you could never see coming is anti-fun.

@@aceofspades1701 genuinely appreciate the reply, but a 2060 and 8350 shouldn't overheat in 5 minutes for this. Warframe proves the point, it hasn't blown up the PC under any conditions. PS2 isn't exactly a next gen sim, and the game mechanic points still stand, but it's got an enormous number of barriers to entry that the video here doesn't address. I really want to like PlanetSide, but it explodes a PC that handles far worse, while also ensuring I get spawn killed 90% of the time.

When that happens you either accept you'll die alot and try and run out to spam a few kills or zoom out on the map and join a new fight that you'd prefer. For a new player that mechanic is hard to learn especially coming from most other games that just does it for you automatically or you have limited options

Suscriptions is horrible and not worthy. (got it like 3 or 5 times) Servers are horrible. NSO faction is worthless. ttk is horrible. pros: massive battles and randomnes everywhere, that's good. Everyones know and must accept the only reason the game still alive is because there is nothing like it out there, but planet side 2 is a really bad game for these times, being the only one in his species, is why ppl keep coming and going.

It's been used to described good players as well (also known as sweaty players or sweats) but I firmly believe that a try hard isn't just a good player, but someone that just fucks up the game to win, using exploits and the most unfun strategies possible

Just curious, how long did you try it out for? There is a huge learning curve to it but there are so many different playstyles and the ability to choose your own fights from a map that spans a continent is something super cool and unique to the game
