Why Are Quantum Computing Stocks Falling?

Quantum computing stocks are falling because companies haven't been able to grow revenues as they promised in their glossy SPAC decks. The three quantum computing stocks to watch are Rigetti Computing $RGTI, D-Wave $QBTS, and IonQ $IONQ, all of which are struggling to bring in meaningful revenues. Rigetti faces a possible delisting while D-Wave is running out of cash. We're avoiding quantum computing stocks until they start showing some meaningful traction. The best quantum computing stock of the lot is probably IonQ, just watch out for related-party revenues which constituted 40% of 2022 revenues.

I'm holding 1,300 shares of IonQ @ $4.51! The more and more I read up on quantum computing stocks the more nervous I am about holding this much. I'd probably sell if we have a rally to $6 or $7 but I'm scared to sell it at a loss now.

Careful Edward. There is a good lesson to learn here. When you enter a stock position, always define a reason to exit. For us, it's revenue growth stalling or thesis changing. Has the thesis changed since you bought your stock? Probably not. There's still the promise of quantum computing which will take time to mature - like a fine bottle of Opus One. You only lose money when you sell a stock. When you sell, you do it with conviction, you don't do it out of fear. IonQ has over $500 million to survive and thrive. Let's hope they can. Hopefully that's a small percentage of your overall wealth so you're not losing sleep at night.

You're welcome Adam! We're about due for a Ginkgo update. Reckon that will happen early next year. While we love the Ginkgo story we're just concerned about those related party revenues and what we call "real Foundry revenues" growing as they should be.

Interested to see your take now that these stocks have mostly bottomed. Are they good investments for a long hold? Or perhaps just good trades to ride the short squeeze? (RGTI, QBTS) - IONQ seems to have pumped back hard, leading me to believe that RGTI and QBTS will follow. They were recently extremely cheap.

This is normally where I'd tell you that we have a huge research queue and requests from our paying subscribers take precedence ;) But as far as VLCN, there's really nothing to analyze. Until they can sell their vehicles for more than they cost to produce, they don't have a business. They're way too small to consider investing in or even being on our radar. Be very wary about investing in stories.

Scorpion Capital report on IONQ looked like was created by a 14 year old doing his homework. They relied on like two former employees and have a scant understanding of Quantum Computing.

The format of the report has nothing to do with the content. All short reports look like that. Regarding your second statement, not true. People can read it for themselves. If you're truly long the stock as an investor you'd want to hear both sides. Until they have meaningful revenues we're avoiding it.

Joe, interesting video! I invest in Microsoft, Google and I am considering seriously open a position in Honeywell. I don't see myself investing in any of the current pure plays Quantum Computing stocks.

Quantum computing is grossly misunderstood. It can't even be used to hack cryptographic hashes. It can only perform single algorithms really well and the q bits can't be rearranged as with in modern computers. They are more like punch card computers with the q bits needing to be arranged to do a single task

When even the experts don't now if something is working, it's a big problem for investors. Revenues, and only revenues, are the ground truth.
