With the growing Elderly Population, they should convert them into Old Aged Homes that can be affordable. And this in turn can create jobs for the local towns, from care givers to maintainence people, to cooks to administration.

Who’s gonna pay for it? There aren’t enough young people to fund the pension system and even then it wouldn’t be enough to pay nurses 24/7

You make a start by implementing the system with repurposing a school to save money & establish a community within the local area.

To be fair in Japan to build schools, but a lot of times once those students graduate, they end up, leaving the village once enough generations leave the village. The school is left with no more students.

In my small town in France, they turned an old abandoned school into a public medical house (general practitioner, nurses, a few specialists 1-2 days a week come as well). We have issues with access to medical care in rural places so our government decided a few years ago to regroup medical workers in order to have about 1 medical center per area (one small town + villages around). So if there's old abandoned places like schools, industrial buildings, they renovate it for those kind of purpose. I enjoyed you introducing us to this kind of subject. It's really interesting. Population change over time and their needs as well. Government or local groups trying to renovate buildings for new needed services is definitely a good thing for its population.

It's so awesome that the old school is being reused for something quite cool. I wish there was more of that here in Australia. Old buildings here usually get left to rot and get torn down when they become unsafe. Sometimes there isn't enough money to do anything with an old builder that people want to renovate and reuse. On the other hand its scary the population is gradually decreasing there, lower birth rate being the main cause from what I have heard. Safe journey to the next city :)

Cool Video, i like it a lot it was very refreshing and something new compared to the Videos you normally have, glad to see they make some use of those old Schools. Over here is crazy, they leave them to rot till they can't be used anymore and then try to sell them to someone that has to renovate. Problem is, renovation would cost so much that its cheaper to Destroy the Building and rebuild, but because some are so old they fall under monument protection Laws and can't be Destroyed. In the end Investors just buy them cheap, then wait and hope they just get Destroyed over time to the point where there is no monument to protect anymore, just have to wait to the point where accessing the Building would be Dangerous.

That is so cool! My town has an abandoned school. They are thinking of selling it, but I would like to see it used like this to help the community. They will probably sell it though, and the new owner will make it into something that makes money, probably overpriced condos. Ugh.

Thank you for making this video, I am a half Japanese American and I was recently in Esashi Hokkaido visiting my grandma. I hadn't been there in over ten years and it was sad to see how much of the town had seemed to slow down. Abandoned farmhouses, closed nearby conbini Selco mart. It made me want to move to the area and help my grandma in her final years. I think I will go next spring and stay for a while.

People often blame the falling population for these school closures, abandoned villages, etc, but that's not the entire issue. The major issue is that in Japan, people keep moving to the big cities. Especially the young people. If Japan's population was more evenly spread around, far less schools would be closing so quickly. Modern economics heavily promotes urbanism.

Hey Nomad san, what sort of van are you looking at to start with, presumably a kei-camper like "coupy" or similar? How about a few videos just looking at some & brainstorming a first step towards that goal, keep it alive & real. Please get in touch with Chris Broad & suggest a moped journey using kei campers as support vehicles & show them how it is done. An update on Maeda-sans health would be appreciated, his creativity & kindness has been pivotal to getting this far, please let him know we are hopeful for a rejuvenated "turbo injected" no version of himself imminently! ..I would like a proper video your of his workshop & projects, ideas for the camper, he is clearly likes a project to get into, so he ought be on board for some renovations such as a decent bit battery bank & solar, plus a small set up for summer van air con, a bit like coupy!
