My husband died suddenly of a heart attack in late September and I know that I need to be surrounded by my dearest friends as I start this next part of my life. So, I’ve decided to sell the 2018 Class C that has been our FT home for 3.5 years. Someday I may get myself a small setup and return to wandering around the country part time. I am going to miss the beautiful spots we boondocked in out in the middle of nowhere. I want to thank y’all for providing so much of the inspiration and encouragement that got us on the road in the first place. ❤️

We didn’t quit vanlife but we did decide to purchase a deeded RV lot at Chateau Chaparral in Nathrop Colorado. Now we have a home base and we love it here! It’s nice to have a community to come home to and still be able to live in our RV. 85% of Chaffee county is public land so we still get to hike every day. We’re right on the Arkansas River so my husband can fish when we’re here. Also it’s a great central place to launch from. We love our RV life and can’t imagine ever going back to sticks and bricks! Thought when we get really old we plan on putting a tiny home on our lot. Love your channel! Thanks for all the years of great content!

Absolutely would keep a piece of land, but a tiny home as well. So the rig could go in for check ups and repairs before hitting the road again. Unfortunately hubby had thyroid cancer then colon cancer, and we had to sell our 5th wheel. But we had the house. Lord knows I wish we still had the camper, grand kids in 4 different states and I would love to go take them camping with us. Hubby’s been cancer free now for 10 years Thank the Lord and All the Heart felt Prayers from friends and family

Maybe they get burned out. Having a home base like you guys have seems to be the best scenario so you can have some down time where you are not having to travel and hunt a place to spend the night. There has also been an influx of people at RV parks since the pandemic which is making things a bit crowded.

The problem with Montrose is that its in Colorado. The taxes are high, license plates are expensive, no matter where you go its crowded, cost of living is really high and crime is through the roof. We still live here part time but we spend most of the year at our properties in SD and MT. Just about every time we get back to our house (about 15mi north of Denver), our house has been vandalized or broken into, sometimes we have a car missing, we had our fence driven through once and without fail the door on the detached garage is kicked in. The cameras and alarm are useless.

Twice at our “home base”campground, we had nasty wind sheer storms that did substantial damage. One took down multiple trees and tree limbs but the last one took down a large tree and laid it down ON the length of our 31 ft. Airstream! Flattened it! The only way to remove anything from value belonging to us (ie. my purse, my better half’s wallet etc) was to crawl army style on my elbows! It was that flat! Be safe out there people! You just know when it is time to bail! As a side note, this happened about 25 years ago. Weather forecasting has improved since then!

To touristy expensive for me though, but i will say it prolly wouldn't be bad if you were wealthy or could find a reasonably priced spot somewhere with something to do. They wanted like 70 to 100 bucks a night for a spot, I'm from North Dakota originally and I lived in Michigan for 5 years, most camping spots are $20 a night, you can even get a Red roof inn hotel room for 20 bucks a night in Michigan, 😂😂😂. Currently I go back and forth from North Dakota to Las Vegas and haven't really encountered anywhere you have pay more than 40 bucks a night for on that trek. Not quite used to that 70-100 range, but i did find that again in California, must be an ocean thing, ha!

Hi there from Ouray! Wow….it was like 4 or 5 years ago I came across your channel. We were living in NC and preparing to move to Ouray. I had been in and out of overseas……and we finally got internet in our rooms! It seems that it was around that time that you stayed at Ridgway State Park..and did activities in Ouray. I was interested as I knew we were going to get a travel trailer at some point……and I could scope out activities in Ouray. And, here you were back in the area! It really is a grand area…..I would say it is definitely a good spot to grab some land for a base camp or eventual home. We have our 3rd travel trailer on order. It has been constructed and waiting on the stove top hood. We will predominately do boondocking in CO and the immediate surrounding states for about 5 years; mostly 1-2 week trips monthly. After we quit work, we will push out to do 1-2 month trips to focus on specific parts of the country. Safe travels! PS Heck yes…I would put someone’s laundry in the washer!

We had an interesting time at Ridgway, too. As we were leaving, the brakes on my truck blew out, so we had to limp, trailer in tow, to the Walmart in Montrose where I panic-replaced the pads and rebuilt the rotors for our drive home to Texas. You may be able to still see the brake fluid at the exit! That was our last trip full-timing before we had to get back to real life.

I think it's that most folks who go into full time RVing are retired and they are simply aging out of this lifestyle. I live in Florida and for 8 years after we retired we would snowbird in our RV to get out of the extreme summer heat of Florida. However, there is a lot of work involved in living in an RV and my husband just got too old and didn't enjoy it anymore, so we sold our RV. People don't realize the almost constant maintainence and repairs an RV needs to keep it nice.

I love Montrose. I've been to Ridgeway many times. Ouray is also amazing and driving the hwy to Silverton. My best years were living in Grand Junction. Thank you for a wonderful video. We fulltimed for 8 years, and settled in Tucson, but Colorado will always have my ❤

If you ever decided to move to Colorado, Montrose and "that side of the mountains", is by far the best area t live in my opinion! Colorado is divided by which side you live on. Both sides are amazing but there is something magical about the entire area.

I was a little surprised that he didn't know the horse was an Appaloosa. My children are in their 30's and were taught at home. Being on the road works well with homeschooling and visiting homeschooling groups to share your lifestyle with might even become an element of your journey. We have a vintage Airstream Safari I plan to tow with a diesel Excursion when all the restoration is completed.

Great video! Hensley totally needs a pony! 😊. It would fit it the RV, right?! Might need a toy hauler, though. Man those Colorado skies are stunning! Thanks for the heads up on Hendrick’s Photography … love nature phots!

What a blessing that the 'Closer' has such a God given talent and he is sharing it with your family. And yes, having professional photos of your family with a mountain backdrop is something VERY special to add to your collection of travel phots. Thank you for sharing. I know that Hensley will treasure the photos of the horses the Closer sends to her along with the memories of the visit.

We moved from NC to TN and right now we are staying in our camper waiting to close on our new home. It really has been nice my daughter lives here so this is why we moved to TN. God has blessed us for sure. If your looking for a great little campground Riverview campground in Jonesborough TN is it. The owner steve is great he keeps the park so clean. Some people stay long term. We were going to stay awhile but we found our home faster then we thought we would.

I have only heard good things about the Montrose area. A group of Honda Goldwing riders get together there in September and ride 3-4 days around. I just priced homes. Guess I am use to Florida prices. They are way too high in price in Montrose for what I am use to getting here in Florida. Even buying land there is high for my blood. Guess I will just base myself in Florida and ride all over in a pull behind motorcycle camper for a year to see where else I might like to settle in retirement. that starts next Spring.

Depending on where your going some rv parks cost as much as a motel room? Some rv parks are 80 a night or more it shouldn't cost that much to bring your own place?

I was at a premium Colorado Springs RV resort this year (early May) and it was $90/night and had the ambience of a crowded parking lot on gravel which basically what it was. The place was also at full capacity. I was in a rental RV which was costing me ~$200/day not including fuel expenses. I've rented RV's twice now to test whether I should buy one. The test failed.

@@MikeNaples Some people have memberships for campgrounds like Thousand Trails or AAA which gives them discounts might have to put some research time into that. Still the price for the membership is only worth the prices they charge, depending on if you are a serious camper because; even with discounts it would still cost $80 plus a night at some places.

Montrose is a great area in the summer. Oury nearby is quaint too, with waterfalls. There's a ton of off road trails to play on with a side-by-side, or horses. Don't do horses though, they are a lifetime commitment that's very expensive and full of surprises. Try to avoid horses with the girls. You might be pulled into a huge financial liability, bigtime. Quads, motorcycles, and SXS's are way less expensive and you don't have to feed them everyday and shovel their poop. A motorcycle or quad won't buck you off when spooked by a snake. They are way more fun too, IMHO.

You guys are lucky enough to have a home base. If you need to land and stay still for a bit, you have the option and a place for that which I think makes a big difference. Especially with little ones.
