I generally don't let others drive my rig, and I definitely wouldn't want someone who doesn't have a clue how to drive offroad, take it over a large obstacle. Sand hallow and moab are not your typical wheeling experiences for 90% of the offroad community. Those guys in Utah are lucky to have such a wonderful place to wheel basically all year long. The rest of us don't see rock like that except when we make the trip out there.

Actually, when they looked at the numbers it wasn't great for them. Casey LaDelle (one of the judges last time) did a video talking about it. Since there was an embargo on the participants to wait a week before posting videos, everyone on KZbin watched videos posted by the audience and were burnt out on the "Wrecker Games" by the time the official videos could be released. As a result, Casey LaDelle and other participants had less views than if they would have just stayed home and did their normal thing. Also specific to Casey, it's during his busy time of the year and he lost a lot of work to attend.
@dposcuro
@dposcuro 6 ай бұрын
@@Marf-yt Yeah, I think they did it a lot better this year. Live stream, and somehow getting a full video out in like, a day. Camera guys and editors probably pulled a 16 hour day or some shit. I do not blame Casey or anyone else who chose not to participate in it this year. Everyone has their own time lines, budgets, schedules, and risks they are willing to make. Completely respect it.

It's an event that they use (smartly) to bring communities together and gain subscribers. Every youtuber will show its own competition, and the partners will show each other a lot. So there is an aspect that isn't mentioned in your bet, its the new relationship built in this event, and the game of subscribers, i.e. income. Yes, it's a fair decision to not participate, and everyone has to accept that. But it's also a fair business model. There is potential gains offered. So it's a calculated decision to be made. But also, if you look at the youtuber selected as drivers, if my memory is correct, those are people that are level headed, that understand mechanics, and that will respect each other's equipment. And then, we don't know the fine prints... Is there a form of insurance for the event? Are those rigs insured? I would be surprised if it was a "f you" if you lose it. But it could be.

@@DirtLifestyle It won't be able to move a very big rock at all. For excavators need weight and size to keep them stable. My boss has one twice the size of that and don't lift much. Good for digging trenches but not much more.
@kelvinelrick807
@kelvinelrick807 7 ай бұрын
Some tips with using that new machine of yours. I am an excavator operator out here in Colorado. When digging you want to make sure that you're scraping the dirt and rock with the teeth and not the back of the bucket. What works for me is I take the dirt down in layers. If the dirt is hard to dig in I'll keep scratching layers until I get enough loose dirt to get a full bucket, then I'll scoop the dirt out. In addition to digging with the teeth is you won't be wearing out the bucket itself. Since the teeth are the wear items. That also means you won't have to weld crisscross beads all over the bucket to keep it from wearing out. When the teeth wear out don't throw them away, you can weld some AR plates to the tips of them and reuse the teeth. That way you're only buying a second set of teeth and not tens or hundreds of teeth (depending on how much you use the machine).

It makes perfect sense. If everyone got to pick their teams, they'd just pick the best or people they know, and there would be 0 outreach, which completely goes against the goal of the event. It's like kids playing dodgeball. You're going to pick the best in line and ignore the rest. Matt doesn't want a fierce competition as much as he wants everyone to forge relationships and experience something they probably wouldn't see otherwise. Matt probably could have thought of a better way to meet the goal though, maybe each team gets a stock jeep, and they have to modify it as a team. You have to consider how much more expensive for each team something like that would get though.

Basically I have noticed that ANY channel that gains massive popularity like Matts Offroad for being an incredibly fun and entertaining channel, then also gets blamed for having massive success. It’s basically a catch-22. People want you to be a really good channel, but then get mad when being a really good channel leads to high levels of success, which in turn leads to more responsibility and the need to widen your channels ability. The whole point of this event was to bring KZbinrs together to drive offroad in a fun and controlled fashion. Not that complicated. But after that the massive success of the wrecker games that is what people ASKED for, bigger and better.

Oh my goodness. You are partnered with Scott Mansell! I will be routing for your team then, 100%. I have followed Driver 61 and the now defunct Overdrive channels forever. Scott is an amazing driver on tarmac, and still holds a lap record at Brands Hatch (which he does like to keep reminding us of). I think he will be a quick learner, and he will certainly have the nerve to do scary stuff. As to people pulling out, I was not impressed when Fab Rats Paul said he was not going, and it sounded like he'd thrown his toys out of his pram. I hear what you say about safety etc. Paul is a good and close friend of Matt Wetzel, and IMO should have shown support for his friend.

If people are backing out because they're worried about someone damaging their rig, then they obviously don't understand the opportunity that is in front of them. Even if the worst case scenario happened and something got broken, the exposure your channel will get to possibly tens of millions of viewers, makes it worth it 10 times over.

I’m sorry but Matt makes things too dramatic and unrealistic in many of his videos. If I had known that he was to be in this video I wouldn’t have clicked on it. I have been in the off-road and recovery for over 30 years. I won’t watch anyone who dramatize things to make themselves look more skilled than they are as well as literally taking the hard route and talking about how dangerous and sketchy it was. The main one I am talking about you can clearly see that all they had to do was hook up and drive down the trail. But instead they went through the main line and just jerked and jerked dragging the recovery.

Yeah, if I spent 2-3 years and $50,000+ in material to build an off-road vehicle, I'm not gonna let someone who has ZERO clue on what to do behind the wheel of my rig to break and destroy. Some of the Non-offroaders have never even driven on a dirt road, let alone rock crawling. No thanks. I would have declined the invitation. ... Not too mention BOTH owner And driver have to pay to be part of the games, AND pay to get in the State Park.

I’ve been very curious which Mog axles you put under that Sammi. The 404 axles are notorious for grenading with tires over 38”. Now I think you have a little give there with a small diesel engine, but are you concerned about their strength when you stick the 43’s on there? Thank you. I’ve been pondering lengthening a Sammi for a similar build, so it is really cool to see your’s out there. Maybe someday.

Hey this is sorta unrelated to the video but considering you have a lot of experience with tdi engines, would you say it would be adequate to handle moving a Jeep Comanche 4 door, down the highway comfortably on maybe 38” tires I have a feeling running Dana 60 might add to much weight along with the tire size, Might need to run a 44. I would like to use it to travel down from Canada different places so it would have a good amount of gear and supply’s. Let me know what you think or if anyone else has experience let me know your thoughts.

Yeah, it would be different if they put together 4-5 identical rigs (which I do realize the financial and logistical nightmare) for this event, that would be cool. Putting your personal rig on the line is not. Granted your partner specifically will completely understand your connection for your rig, as well as your instruction, but for others that’s a whole lot of commitment for bragging rights. Even if it was just for a specific section, that would be a better deal than “let this stranger drive your rig the entire event.”

I can see where some rig owners would feel apprehensive about letting someone else drive their rig. I get it but, from what I hear, Merlin's birthday bash has been planned for a couple of years and you know his cousin Paul from FabRats will be there with his crew. That's why they're building all of those buggies. I would have more respect for Paul and his wife if they would have at least mentioned that they had a previous engagement with his family instead of just saying I don't want anybody driving my truck.

Matt’s and Paul’s you tube worlds are not on the same page and both have different priorities and styles and plus on different things. I watch both channels. And enjoy them both. I dont expect that they will be doing all that many joint shows in the future. They may overlap occasionally, but I don’t see that being a regular thing.

Concerning comments about people having second thoughts..... I think the people having 2nd thoughts may be a little worried about their rig but without an ironclad liability waiver (and maybe with it) I would be more worried about what happens when one of these rigs rolls over and an inexperienced driver gets hurt. The medical bills from a serious injury or worse will be a lot more than the cost of the rig.

From what you are saying, the idea is an IROC seties style competition. But since the vehicles belong to people. Those people should be the only one to decide who drives them. Matt has a fleet of vehicles. He has a business that has other people driving his vehicles. But that is different for people who have have their own vehicles. And as far as spotters go. Not everyone spots the same, and trusting someone you are not familiar with, can be a problem.

it is not really a competition. I think it is what you bring to it. It's just a chance to hang out with people you don't normally get to. The rules are made up . Some will have little skills some a lot. Just a chance to have fun and empower people with something they are not comfortable with. As long as everyone helps each other it should be a good time. It is good that ones with skill are helping those without.
