British troops have been in Uganda training soldiers to protect people against one of Africa's most deadly jihadist groups. They are preparing a battlegroup to deploy to nearby Somalia and join around 22,000 soldiers and police on international peace-keeping duties, defending against al-Shabaab. A three-month programme has been led by UK personnel working under the British Peace and Support Team.

@Freedom Memes doesn't mean anything put it this way in 2014 burundi was preparing to send a peace keeping contingent to the congo and somalia yet they knew that their army was not up to scratch and begged for a united nations training team to come and train it on being asked who they would like they decided to look at the americans french canadians germans and swedes but it was the british army that they chose to train their army because they said they wanted to be trained by the best so eleven members of the royal irish regiment were deployed in what does that tell you about our soldiers we are world class most western soldiers including the french have also come to the sandhurst military academy as well due to its excellent reputation since 1947 sandhurst has trained officers from over one hundred and twenty nations

The Ugandans do this all the time. They provide units to foreign trainers from Russia, US, France, UK and Israel for PR. Then turn around and use their own battle honed experience from real wars for training.

Although using Africans to clear what is basically and Arab/African problem, is a good idea. Something tells me it is a recipe for disaster. Of course if we can sell them secondhand weapons and equipment, there could be a short term benefit for the country. Better to use this as an excuse to deploy our strategic forces in the region and establish bases in Oman. From there we can protect our tankers through the straights of Hormuz and be ready for the inevitable attack/blockade on Iran. A little bit of fwd thinking, proper planning and preparation would be nice for a change.

@@SteveVi0lence Actually you would be surprised at my experience in the Forces. They are Chinese copies and are no where near the quality of a Russian made AK47. After shooting this weapon in a contact for a long Hold Out, weakens the barrel to such an extent that the barrel bends out of shape. Not only throwing accuracy off, but making it dangerous for the Operator using that weapon system. That's why they are so cheep.
