Yankee fans can never stop talking about the Mets. Best team in baseball and all they can't get the Mets off their mind. The Mets being even slightly good for a week is Yankee fans worst nightmare.

Because the Mets aren't a consistently good franchise. More times than not they are a collection of overpaid dorks and choke artists. So when they go on a hot streak and make a run, they almost always need a tuning fork of cultural and superstitious symbolism that represents their identity within the acute period of winning. Almost like how the internet nerds and losers online create their meme culture within reddit etc.
