This man is indeed a brilliant scholar, he should concentrate more on his teaching job and less on his political engagements. The real beneficiaries would be students and young people of Pakistan . Leftists are always very good in history and they are the ones who had lions share in writing the history in India , off course I don't think it's so in pakistan. Professor sahab thank you very much for your brilliant commentary on Pushtuns, their plight, their aspirations and their present predicament . In early this year the Pushtuns were very much in news for their protest marches, meetings and their slogan........ iske piche wardi hai ! . They were indeed perturbed over killing of their young man by a karachi police despot. They had a formidable presence on KZbin and handled PTM portal very well . The entire lot of people appeared very genuine, hard-working and their leaders appeared very honest and simple. There were few ladies also on forefronts, who were very dignified and spoke so well about their people's problems. Yes there is no news about them in last one year, their portal also disappeared. We knew about Bacha Khan, his Khudai KhidmatgAr party, friendship with Mahatma Gandhi and his role in freedom struggle. But today listening to you I got the real perspective of his role in emancipation of societies in Pak-Afgan bordering areas. Your commentary on Islamic Majahbi parties was so well articulated and factual. Moudadi - Barrister Jinnah feuds, mistrust is subject of so many books. Bhutto Sahab's downfall from power was also accelerated by PNA ( Pak National Alliance ) at whose core were majhabi parties ! Best wishes prof. Sahab and also to your students

Assalam o alikum sir I use to watch your videos. These are full of new information. This lecture is totaly irrespective of community, creed and cast. What you delivered was clear. You showed the both side of coin withou supporting either side. I liked your analysis. I pray for you that May Allah give you more strength and courage elaborating such topics for students and knowledge seekers. Sir here i want to add some information regarding this topic. As you said that Taliban movement started soon after Lal Masjid tragedy and there was no existence of taliban and other extremist groups but in my knowledge the Taliban were active since 2003 under the command of Late Naik Muhammad. He had about 5 to 12 thousand active fighters fighting with the forces of both borders (Pakistan and Afghanistan). North waziristan was their stronghold. They used to arrange few attacks against Pak army. But their attention totally changed when their leader after a peace pact was assissinated. Then they started fight totally with army. These skirmishes were bound to the area of north waziristan only. Pakistan army started many military operations since 2003 and both sides sustained heavy losses. After killing of Naik Muhammad the command was controlled by Abdullah Mehsud and taliban's influence enhanced towards the boundaries of South Waziristan. Abdullah Mehsud was know to be a core enemy of Pak army. Many henious attacks carried away under his leadership as a result army were bound to their camps. In 2007 Abdullah Mehsud was slained in Quetta and Baitullah Mehsud took the charge. That year Laal Masjid tragedy occurred. After that, a war against pakistan is proclaimed. The attacks surged through out the country. Benazir was assassinated the same year. The Taliban were fighting since 2003 but after 2007 it turned into complete civil war. Writing such a story was in the back of your statement that Taliban under the leadership of Baitullah started war. Hope you would like it.

Very good analysis and a lecture on history I would like to make one correction and that is when you said bride price that is a very offensive word it is a dowry or Jahaiz in Urdu. second thing which is very important when you said there were good Taliban and bad Taliban. Bad Taliban were attacking soft targets and Military but the good Taliban who might be changing sides and the military would ask them to stay quiet. It is not true. The Taliban who changed sides and come to the military. Then Pakistan Army would use them as their proxies inside Pakistan also. They were used in Baloch areas in Balochistan. And also the same people are the leaders in fata. That is the reason that PTM says that these terrorists are actually supported by Pakistan Army. Because the people who were terrorizing the common public in fata changed sides now they are representing Pakistan Army and still controlling those areas.

I think brother your stance is one-side narrative , just like the word bride- price , it’s a cultural tradition among pashtoons. Only the pashtoons can understand its significance, and the others see it an anti-feminine rather anti-human characteristic. Even with apologies, we heard from our elders that pathans sell their daughters in the name of their marriages . ( very very sorry for telling you this stupid folklore). likewise your stance on military is viewed monolithically. I don’t say if you are right or wrong , but try to understand the reality in broader sense. You will definitely see the positive change in your opinion. However , first hand experience of war makes one very critical even towards natural happenings or conducts. Sympathies rather empathise for you people.

Pakistan military made an informed decision to continue their support of the taliban in the region, knowing very well that locals will have to pay the price. Collateral damage was expected and accepted. Taliban is not the existential threat to Pakistan. Its military is. Because they have decided to sacrifice the lives of locals for a cause that only they believe in. This voids the social contract.

Also, a correction. Pakistan's support of folks like gulbadin hikmatyar started during bhutto, before President Carter approved operation cyclone. The ISI wing to train afghans under col. Imam started in 1973 I believe. History is continuous. The suffering of people on the Pakistani side of the pushtun belt did not start with President Carter's signature or with saur inqilab in Afghanistan. There's a reason PTM takes its inspiration from Bacha khan. The suffering goes way back.
