Being a medic, I was getting really mad seeing all those planes but there was so much I had not thought of. Especially the cargo flights on passenger jets and the pilots needing to make up their take off and landings. I will not lie when I see flights from China and Italy flying into Heathrow I am like thinking why? But you explained it perfectly. Also if you ever want to stop being a pilot you need to read relaxation audio or something. You have a super relaxing voice and the dog had me laughing so much. Thank you for doing that, in what is really trying times. Especially in my work place.

If a pilot doesn't fly for a certain amount of time, he has to be checked out by a training pilot such as yourself (or perhaps there are simulator options). My question is: when you, a training pilot, are stuck on the ground for a while, what do you do to become current again? Maybe training pilots can check each other? @Viktor Sligo if mandatory worldwide quarantine stays for more than a month the only airplanes left in the sky will be freighter ones to provide medical materials across countries, and even food supplies for regions oversatured with deaths and sanitary catastrophes (Italy and Spain are as of now in the verge of becoming such cases)
@fchanMSI
@fchanMSI 4 жыл бұрын
Well, how do you think some of your necessary supplies like masks, disinfectants, vaccines, will shipped quickly? Air is quickest way now. Ships, trucks(lorries in the UK), trains can ship more per ton but air is faster. If they find a vaccine air fastest way will be the way to transport & distribute it to all.
@uzaiyaro

Also consider that a shitload of cargo (albeit not dangerous or bulky goods - these are still cargo aircraft only) goes onboard passenger flights, a lot of it being mail, and there’s probably going to be even more cargo capacity that they can cram in because they don’t have luggage or weight to worry about, they can basically haul as much cargo as they want.
@markevans2294
@markevans2294 4 жыл бұрын
@@uzaiyaro At least one airline, China Eastern, is removing seats to be able to more easily cargo on the main deck. Whilst weight and balance is still important the aircraft isn't going to care if a seat is occupied by a passenger or box. Even B738 can carry around 20 tonnes without taking the seats out.

Plus, looked like a person could (?) get into a country with ban with a couple flights. My daughter works for a charter company and has been worrying, plus feeling really stressed when she gets calls her company can't help with as their territory isn't international. Very good video. I am retired after 33 years in aviation and i see things just like you. The biggest danger is non current pilots and grounded airplanes. Most people have no idea what has to happen to an airplane to keep it fly able. For instance the engines have to be run for a certain amount of time at certain rpm and teperatures every week or two depending on the engine to maintain warranty, to keep things lubricated, to prevent leaks, and to prevent corrosion. These machines need to be operated regularly if you want them to operate. The longer they set, the more it is going to take to make them airworthy again. All the systems need to be operated and brought up to temperature, kept there for a while, regularly. If things set for a few months it is not going to be easy getting the planes back in the air reliably. The same with the pilots. Flying is a depreciating or deteriorating skill if not used regularly. It is going to take awhile. Plus undoubtedly a certain number of flight crew, mechanics, and ground crew will move on and will have to be replaced. If this lasts very long it will be a mess if not handled absolutely correctly. Be safe!

Freight - Because a lot less planes are flying, the prices for freight have *gone 5x.* Tourists - A lot of people are still at holiday destinations and need to get home. I like how KLM is handling things, converting part of their planes to cargo, to keep earning money as much as possible. They have quite a few dual purpose planes. They are also caring really well for their personnel, with some help from the Dutch government. Flying double crews, putting food on the chairs before the passengers, equipment to isolate passengers with symptoms, adjusting schedules so personnel doesn't have to stay at the destination, etc.

@Seriously_Unserious
@Seriously_Unserious 4 жыл бұрын
@@RicktheRecorder Contrails are when a plane is flying at an altitude high enough to be above the condensation line, where clouds may form where you get a line of cloud forming behind a jet's engines due to the extra moisture being released by the engines meeting the cold air and triggering condensation. Contrails typically break up behind the jet at roughly the same speed the jet's traveling at to the contrail will be roughly the same length behind the plane. Chemtrails are clouds of some substance being sprayed out behind a plane. Unlike those clouds of condensation, Chemtrails don't break up as the condensation evaporates, they will spread out over time, blowing with the wind. I've actually seen this happen in the skies over Vancouver, 1-4 planes will be flying back and forth over the city, leaving a grid pattern of these expanding clouds of chemicals. I've even taken a closer look at these planes with binoculars and can see the stuff is not coming from behind the engines, but from spray nozzles mounted near the rear of the plane. These planes will also often be flying too low for contrails to form, as other planes flying in and out of YVR at about the same altitudes and time will NOT be producing any visible Contrails behind them.
@DaveMiller2
@DaveMiller2 4 жыл бұрын
@@RicktheRecorder Modern jet engines are incapable of making contrails in most conditions. Back in the 70s -90s it was different. Modern high-bypass turbofans - which are used on virtually all large commercial and military aircraft - burn much less fuel per unit of ejected air; often 25% less fuel. Therefore, they produce much less water vapor than older engines.

In The States, if any airline took bailout money, part of the deal was that they must still fly, and they must not lay anyone off. They could reduce service, but not cut off any city they had already been serving. Most flights have 5-10 passengers no matter the size of the aircraft. Strange times for certain.

We are fighting a battle every day now to secure goods from around the world to help our frontline NHS staff and patients. I imagine the big carriers are looking at air freight as an alternative to passengers

I needed this video because flying is integral to my job. When I flew home on Monday the 23rd from the Los Angeles area to the Seattle area (one hot spot to another), there were only three passengers including myself! Four crew! I'm awaiting the timing of an announcement of sudden airport closures or grounded flights, the latter being more predictable, I assume. I mainly don't want to be stranded away from home, but since my travel is domestic now, at least I could drive a rental car home if need be (for now.) Heading from Seattle to Fresno next Monday. Please wish me luck! Seattle is home. I'm just doing my job which I'm so glad to still have. I wish you all the best and my sympathies to those who are laid off or on furlough. I'm hoping it gets back in order, but we all know it will never be quite the same again.

Phone calls are 100% digital nowadays, so if the signal is bad, you get pieces of the audio dropped from the call, but the remaining bit you are able to receive is very clear. Aviation radio is still using the same analog tech developed during WWII so any signal degradation reduces the sound quality.

The signal for your mobile is only going through the air a very short distance to the nearest cell tower, then across cables to the other side of the planet, then possibly a short distance from a cell tower to the receiving mobile. @@Arag0n Delaying helps in two ways aside from keeping hospitals from being overcome: 1st, if the virus can be slowed down, it loses strength. It feeds by spreading. It doesn't care if a host dies, it will die in a couple weeks anyway. If it can spread, that makes it stronger as a whole. 2nd, it gives people more time to make a cure or vaccine. That may not happen, but if it can, there is more time. It's a logical strategy, but the economic strain is very large!
