An alternate view into Why the Night King and the White Walkers are back, keeping mind what George R.R. Martin has sad:
“Much as I admire Tolkien, and I do admire Tolkien - he’s been a huge influence on me, and his Lord of the Rings is the mountain that leans over every other fantasy written since and shaped all of modern fantasy - there are things about it, the whole concept of the Dark Lord, and good guys battling bad guys, Good versus Evil, while brilliantly handled in Tolkien, in the hands of many Tolkien successors, it has become kind of a cartoon. We don’t need any more Dark Lords, we don’t need any more, ‘Here are the good guys, they’re in white, there are the bad guys, they’re in black.'”

lol thanks for the patreon shout-out. you're the best LMR!!!! yeah, its strange that neither her nor thoros have tatoos. some of the priest in the books have flames tatooed (sp?) on their cheeks. they wickedly powerful too. this dude bennero is able to shoot flames out of his hands (probably too fantasy-ish for GoT, so instead they replaced him with an attractive girl - kinvara)

I wasn't sad when Shireen died. It was the "typical" GoT moment, it felt wrong yes, but didn't hit me in the feels. Yet I cried like a baby listening to Davo's monologue. Liam Cunningham is a great actor, you could feel the pain the character was in, the anger, the need for justice. God my eyes are watering.

My new theory is that the white walkers never came south of the wall. Bear with a bit of tin foil. This is the first time. The cave paintings, the stories, all of that has been passed down based on Bran going back in time and trying to warn everyone. They play the telephone game over the ages and Jon snow is remembered as the last hero and episode 6 was the journey with his companions to stop the night king. The lord of light religion is a misinterpretation of his warnings made to fire mages in the past. The irony is that, much like what happened to hodor, I think Bran inadvertently creates all the events leading up to the night king going south of the wall. They have spent a lot of time warning Bran not to stay too long in the past, that foreshadowing does not end well for him. And maybe he just does his best while stuck in the past making peace between humans and children, building a wall, writing books (still stuck in some locked room in old town because it's unverified), and telling stories of the future. What do you guys think?

I've always thought that there was more to the Night King than just some killing machine that wanted to take over the world. Ever since the vision of the children stabbing him in the chest and him looking petrified, I knew who the true villain of the story was, the children of the forest. Even if the Night King does have some kind of revenge agenda the children made him that way. They turned him into what he is so I honestly don't see him as a true villain at all.
@ssabucca
@ssabucca 6 жыл бұрын
Why can't it just be as simple as... The Night Kings power comes from the long night and he can sense that the winter that is coming will be one of the longest, hence the most powerful time for him to return? Sometimes, even in Martin's writings, he does do things that are fairly basically straightforward. Who really didn't know that Jon Snow would come back to life?

Damn, you could convince me of the most strange sounding things. The Lord of Light is evil, I agree. Light creates shadows, without light there is no darkness, without good there is no evil. It makes me wonder, is anyone evil? Shireen was good, 100%, when you compare anyone to her, they are evil. Take Ned, he lied to his entire family and killed people. Compared to someone like Cersei however, Ned seems like the best person that has ever walked the earth. There is no black and white, nor good and evil. There are opinions and comparisons. Maybe burning people makes the burned go to the afterlife where everything is perfect. Maybe becoming a wight is super comfortable, and the Night King is doing everyone a favor. We simply don't know, and frankly, I doubt anyone in GoT/ASOIAF knows if what they do is good or evil, in the grand scheme things. They only think from their perspective, and then everything they do is good. Anyway, sorry for the long comment, it probably doesn't make sense at all

bridge4 well, it's nice to know that I can keep on talking here, the ideas won't go away. Speaking of ideas, in the season 4 (I think) promo they showed 1 Dragon flying above King's Landing. The Night King currently has one Dragon, and it wouldn't surprise me if he just started attacking castles and cities with Viserion, and then raise all the people he killed. Imagine a million Wights in the middle of Westeros.

"Why now?" Comets, dragons, witches and war. But what else is new/starting all over again? Q: Why do the faces "carved" into the Weirwood trees appear to be in such physical or spiritual pain? Are they truly carved (and if so, by whom?) or did they form as the outward expression of the Greenseer soul trapped within? Its hard to turn a "whisper on the wind" into a cry for help - but a silently screaming face rising out of the bark and weeping blood should be a big enough clue for anyone. A Clash of Kings: When Jon, dreaming as Ghost, heard Brans voice from a Wierwood (via the direwolfs supernatural senses), he could also smell soil and stone and death. The implication is that Bran was communicating back thru time from a Greenseat yet to be found: the one under Winterfell. "I like it down here," the future 3 Eyed Crow (still a child) said. Does he really have a choice, though? A recognised trope of horror movies is the demonic creature luring in a victim who ends up becoming the demon themselves. There's something poetic in the archetype of, say, a Genie needing to find someone else to trap inside the bottle so that he himself can be finally free. We've yet to read how - or even IF - Bloodraven will die. But can he even, until his heir-apparant has been found? Or is he, as the "Last" Greenseer, cursed to remain an endlessly withering, ever-living prisoner of the Wierwood until his replacement is installed beneath a screaming tree of his own? I cant help but wonder if his motives are as magnanimous as GoT would have us believe. Or indeed, what fresh opportunities this "changing of the guard" might present to one who is opposed to the Greenseers and their controlling vision of history. Or maybe it's just that those pained, pale, bloody faces in the woods kinda give me the creeps ; )

bridge4 I tell you whats bogus, Kev. That goddamn quote I gave up there! You know, the one in that paragraph I just...deleted ; ) There's only so many rewinds I can watch to try and back myself up. But I do wonder about Bran seeing "beyond the tree." That doesn't necessarily mean he'll ever escape his roots, excuse the pun. Just that he wont always be limited to the viewpoint of looking out from the eyes of those creepy carved faces. Anyway, time to put the genie back in the bottle. I don't really buy this idea that seems to be bouncing around right now that the Whitewalkers aren't bad. They're the rightful villains of the series because they represent death- something to be feared by all humankind. At this point I don't think there are any gods within this story, there is just magic- different types. There is both good and bad on both sides. Ice magic is good in the Children of the Forest and the Stark Wargs and Greenseers but it was also used to create the Whitewalkers. Fire magic is good in Dany and her dragons but as you've pointed out, the cult of the Lord of the Light use it for evil. I think the main plot point surrounding the different belief systems is going to be that it's all from the same source, it doesn't matter where it came from- it matters what you do with it. The Whitwalkers were actually created using both types of magic, the CotF and Dragonglass and I think it will take both sides to defeat them Dany/Dragons/Fire, Bran/Ice and of course Jon Snow who holds the power of both.

I think the Walkers timing on the attack has to do with a theory based around Bran going back in time, getting trapped and becoming the Night King or the first walker. The reason the Walkers are back now is because Bran is about to depart back into the past and the Walker's arrival is what sent that chain of events into action. Three-Eyed Raven says the ink is dry on the past. What has happened is what will always happening. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy. If the walkers don't march upon the world at this time, Bran would never go back into the past in the first place. The NIght King is activating a sequence of events.

But have we missed the biggest goal for Martin in writing this? Everyone that is "good" or can be said to be "good" or "virtuous" or even just having minimal flaws like Shireen, Ned, Jon, and Catelyn have all died due to some form of betrayal. As in, someone that is willing to do dirty things; to cheat, to lie, to betray, and to steal steps on them and kills them. Aside from those few golden characters, everyone else is this gray, this bits and pieces of good but mostly horrible. And those golden characters have all died. I think the message that Martin wants to send with A Song of Ice and Fire (or at least one of the messages) is that it's ultimately too expensive to be good and that's why everyone does terrible things. We've seen how much it's costed Ned and Jon to be honorable, how much it's costed the Starks in general to want to do good, how much it's costed Shireen to trust, how much it's costed Cercei to love, how much it's costed Tyrion recently to believe, how much it's costed Danaerys to help, and how much it's costed Jaime to be honorable. No one can be good without a price because everyone else is bad, and that's shown when Jon says to his crew in the finale of Season 7 something along the lines of that he shouldn't lie if they are to work together, yet everyone else was willing and was encouraging lying because they know the cost of trust and the truth is too high. But it's obvious when looking at Jon or Sansa vice Euron or Cercei that an empire or leadership built on goodness is preferable and stronger than one built on warfare, greed, lust, or vice in general, but that the cost is much higher. Sure, Cercei lost her children and now the rest of her family, but she wasn't murdered by her closest friends for crimes she didn't commit, she wasn't called a bastard her whole life and constantly devalued and underestimated for it, and she hasn't been betrayed by a supposedly loyal house who took over and defiled her city. She's lost alot over the series, as she deserves due to character flaws and making enemies with terrible actions, but she hasn't paid the cost for trusting, being honorable, or telling the truth.

Robb Stark would be alive because he wouldn't have gone south because Stannis would have gotten revenge for him. The wildlings would still be alive and with Jon as the lord commander they might have formed a treaty of some sort. Danny would probably be dead because Tyrion would be dead. In that case Jorah wouldn't have been there to save her. The Wildlings could come south of the wall. The Night king would be stuck with a tiny army beyond the wall without a dragon. To rap up: the Starks would all be alive, Stannis would be king, the Lannisters would all be dead, Danny would be dead, the wildlings would be alive, and the Night king wouldn't be a threat. The end.

I reckon it’s something to do with the Starks. That Dire Wolf pattern when the White Walkers breached the wall was more than just a little Easter Egg from the production team. The White Walkers regularly make symbols - Mance says they are ‘ever the artists’ when they find the dead horses at the Fist of the First men. The three Stark events that I can think of that may have violated some ancient pact are the burning of Rickard Stark (the first time a Stark/Northman died at the hands of the Targaryens’ fire); the birth of Jon Snow (ice and fire); and Ned’s marriage to Catelyn Tully (this brought Andal blood into the Stark line and brought ‘the seven’ to the North - we know ‘the pact’ with the COTF meant the First Men had to keep the Old Gods).

You have the legend that says there must always be a Stark on winterfell. Meaningmthe bloodline of the ice king is Stark and they must always keep the North safe. You have the Targyens of the South and their dragons in a peace with the knights king. As long as a Stark rules the North they can have the South. Once Jon crosses the wall, it means a Stark is no longer in Winterfell and Targyens took the North. So he comes south to defeat them forever. He is our course defeated by a Stark that he didn't see coming, because her blood is his blood.

Entertaining your idea: It’s possible the NightKing (NK) could have killed JonSnow (JS) a couple of times already, but hasn’t because he needs him alive to convert JS in a similar manner to his own. He doesn’t need to kill to convert - Crastor’s sons for example

I started reading A Song of Ice and Fire when AGame Of Thrones first came out in 1996. At the time, i saw it as a complex tapestry of one interwoven plot, but now as I've started my first reread as i wait for Winds to come out, i think it's two distinct stories being told together. If you isolate Jon and Danaerys, and isolate the Azor Ahai and Last Hero stories, each happens simultaneously, but seperately as a large event that impacts certain regions differently. In Danaerys' dreams early on, she only dreams of Drogon, and at some point she dreams of war on the Trident, and during the first Long Night, Lucifer Means Lightbringer points out that there is a correlation to the Bloodstone Emperor near Westeros during that time, but he never makes it north. In the Last Hero story, he makes it to the dead lands in the Bran chapter shortly after he wakes from the coma and i would almost bet that the dead lands reference was to where Winterfell was built. You and others all agree on specific points of the legend, so i won't go into that, but it mentions his broken sword, much like Ser Waymar's broken sword in the prologue, but Bran is broken as well. Joe Magician has a video on House Strong that i found compelling and a theory that House Stark stems from them, and i think that he may be right, and it seems like the Grey King of Ironborn legend is Brandon the shipwright of Stark legend. But when you look at the history, not only of the Targeryan family and the Valyrian people and the Empire of the dawn, you find a mirroring affect that is equal and opposite that seems to refer to the story of Ser Symeon and the Mirror Shield. This duality is dominate all throughout where there is black and white, AND gray with the characters in that the characters are flawed, but the plot device is not. The human heart in conflict is the only thing worth writing about, but i think the black and white refers to the Ice and Fire, Jon and Danaerys are so different in their stories that it's hard to see them together. Jon is so honorbound to his duty that i don't see him budging any more than i see Danaerys doing any different being honorbound to claim Westeros. But, we haven't seen the Long Night yet, and that could change everything. D&D both admited that they changed Danaerys' ending in the show, but they didn't say anything about Jon. In the books, Stannis goes to Winterfell without Melisandre, his wife and daughter. Jon and Val seem much more likely to be a reenvisioning of the Night's King and Queen and Danaerys is remarried. Everything at this point is so completely different now.

Think back to when Sam killed that first White Walker defending Gilly & her baby. I've been saying for ages now that the Nights King is coming for Gillys Baby, Little Sam, because Crasters Sons were promised to him. As time progressed I think this has become a more solid theory. My guess is that Little Sam was to be an heir to the Night Kings "Kingdom" so to speak & him not getting Little Sam pissed him off. What else happened at that time... Craster himself was killed, therefore ending the "arrangement" to give up his sons. Granted, Little Sam isn't the last born of Crasters sons but if his claim of 99 sons was to be believed (at the time he said it) his last born would represent the 100th son offered to "The Others" or "The Nights King" (the one we seen in Season 4 or 5, I can't remember) So looking at it this way, Little Sam represents an anomaly. I just think that the figure of 100 sons offered to The Nights King is too much of a coincidence to ignore...? Just my theory...?

THIS! I always found it curious that the White Walkers exist oftheir own, when Game of Thrones is a story of parallels, and if the white walkers represent ice, there has to be a force of fire. Even though it is only mentioned once, something "stirred in Asshai" around the same time the WW became active, maybe to ready themselves to fight that "force of fire". Looking into this there are many parallels between the heart of winter/the others and asshai. The white walkers are creatures of ice with white skin and pale blue eyes, living in lands of ice. Asshai is a rather hot place clouded in shadows, with it's inhabitants practicing dark arts. The asshai'i cover their faces if they go outside, as if to hide from something, there are no children and parts of the land are said to be dead and hostile. It's curious how Asshai is a "dead land" and the white walkers are able to revive the dead. Another interesting thing is, that in the East there are the Five Forts, a structure similar to the Wall but made of black stone. In the North, the Last Hero stopped the Long Night. In the East it was Azor Ahai. BUT there are no tales of the long night reaching the western parts of essos, which the Night King would have had to walk through to get to the Five Towers and where Azor Ahai presumably defeated him. What if there was another force that came from the East, a force of shadows. And the Shadow and the White Walkers were going to meet in the middle and battle each other. But Azor Ahai weakened the Shadow and it retreated. The Last Hero then was able to convince the Night King to march back North, forging a sort of alliance. There would always be Starks at the Wall and in Winterfell. The Nights King at the Wall would give their babies to the Other, to keep up the numbers of his army in case the Shadows ever came back. I noticed how in the beginning the Others weren't as aggressive as they could have been, attacking the ones who raised weapons against them, but they let Sam, who was just hiding, live. They seemed content with taking the babies and some of the wildlings. It was only after the events of the show advanced, that the White Walkers became more offensive. Actively attacking Hard Home and furthering their numbers, but sparing Jon Snow, only demonstrating to him what power he holds. Maybe he was hoping Jon would be so scared he would stand down and barricade in some castle. While the Others strengthened their numbers, Melissandre burned countless people to gain power for the Lord of Light and their faith grew stronger and spread further. Which might be the reason why the NK thought it necessary to move quicker. So yes, the White Walkers aren't the good guys but they aren't evil either. And a god, who wants to see people burned alive, can't be entirely good and worth following. These two beliefs and events around them seem to mirror each other, which makes me think they are connected. It is also the reason the Others weren't destroyed the first time, because they were needed in case the Shadows return. Maybe the big twist at the end will be, that it was never about the men. Yes sacrifices will be made, and at a cost the race of men will survive. But ultimately, the struggle of all these characters are like little ants, pawns on the playing field of gods, that manipulate the events of the world and make people fight their wars, mearly figures in a game of chess, discardable and replacable. And what are gods really? Beings of unrivaled power. Compared to unskilled and uneducated people, maybe even extremely powerful sorcerers can seem like gods, influencing the world in ways that the lesser people can only view as godlike

One of your best videos, and most convincing theory I heard about the White Walkers yet, Kev. Whether it will go down like this or not, your take makes complete sense to me. I actually think the Lord of Light was painted as a fanatic hypocritical and dangerous cult from the beginning, only the Azor Ahai prophecy was painted as a good thing. Melisandre herself is somewhat of a monster, but in the recent two seasons they try to show her as more complex, grey and human (whether she is... debatable). If the Night King is the secret hero of the story, that would be mind-numbingly awesome. Another one of his motivations could be the prevention of death, for he raises people to live forever as wights. Heck, that would even make the theories that he's Bran or Jon more likely. I think the true villain of the series is not any specific character or group, but the dark self. There's duality of light and dark, good and evil, righteousness and corruption, ice and fire, right and wrong in any person's heart. Humans are systematically letting their wickedness consume them and reveal their most ugly and violent sides. The White Walkers could be a necessary violence to stop this and create a "perfect" everlasting all-wight world. It's like the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Twin Peaks, LOST, the Leftovers and more; the true villains of these stories aren't Sauron, Voldemort, BOB, the Man In Black, the Guilty Remnants or the Night King- it's the temptation that transforms people themselves into being monsters. You must dip in the darkness, for no one is truly pure and all-good (which is evident even in the honorable Ned), but you must also be careful not to be overcome with it (Lady Stoneheart, almost Arya). There IS good and evil, it's just not as easy as being one for each person- it is two halves that make a whole; each man and woman have the choice which seed to feed.

Have you ever thought about the possibility of Bran being the "Prince Who Was Promised"? Only after Bran goes beyond the Wall and becomes the Three-Eyed Raven, do we see the Night King and his followers go south. Perhaps the Knight King wanted Bran after the encounter within Bran's astral projection. It could be possible that the Knight King knew that the only way to counteract the magic preventing him from physically breaching the Wall was by using Bran. It's entirely possible that the Knight King has additional plans for Bran about which we have no idea. You're always saying that there is something about the Stark bloodline and the North. It's called a Song of Ice and Fire. Ice does come first.
@bridge4
@bridge4 5 жыл бұрын
i no longer believe there is any such thing as special bloodlines as far as the night king timing, mance had been unifying the freefolk for something like 20 years on back of white walker attacks. so it seems like the white walkers began mobilizing at least that far back as to their reason, id guess it was mel burning down weirwoods. or the red faith coming in future. both of which happen after the white walkers mobilize. but thats the nature of greensight. they see blurry visions, and those visions cause people to make choices in hopes of changing the future (which they cant do). basically, self fulfilling prophecies so the vision that caused the mobilkization may even be the night king seeing his own "death" its all a big msytery still though, which is fun =))

I think that fire represents a life and cold represents a death. The war is between living and the dead and it doesn't necessarily mean that the war is between the good and the evil. That's main flaw of your argument. It equates only in human perspective for humans fire may burn but without it they will die (at least civilization will die) and even if night king has all reason to fight against fire (because its unpredictability and ability to be harmful) it also means death of human civilization. Actually you can expand this line of thought and speculate that fire represents human nature, cold is pure calculated, absolute rationality which concludes that humans should be killed (because their flowed nature). We know from R.R. Martin that his characters have ambiguous nature they have flaws but also they have good side. They are like fire beautiful and useful and at the same time dangerous and harmful.

The red priests have forgotten. These are the ones who have been making blood sacrifices for a very long time. Recently I’ve been thinking the Valyrians were the scapegoats. With that being said, perhaps the LORD OF LIGHT is a huge volcano. Maybe the only one who can keep it from destroying most of The known world is the Night King with ice magic? A song of Ice and fire. That’s what I call bittersweet. Well, since you said that you enjoy discussing theories about ASOIAF, I have something to I’d like to run by you. I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or conspiracy, or irrelevant even. 🙃 It has to do with what happened at Hardhome 600+ years ago AND with the doom of Valyria. I’ve always found it odd that the two tragedies happened so close together on the timeline. Separated by several decades, yes, but still the same century. Then there is this random information about house Frey - they are a young house, only entering the kingdom around 600 yrs prior to recent events. Which means, 600 years ago, give or take a few generations, Hardhome was engulfed in flames, the doom came to Valyria, and the Frey’s entered into Westeros. I’m not a huge Frey fan by any means but.. I can’t figure out what significance these details hold and I can’t shake the feeling that they are all connected. So.. yeah. What do you think about that?

A theory of mine: The Night King is invincible. That's why Azor Ahai "won" against him, but couldn't kill all white walkers and destroy them for good. Maybe he didn't actually defeated him, like Ned Stark, the truth could be different. I think Azor Ahai could have made a deal with the Night King to live in peace. And now (for whatever reason) the deal is broken? Maybe there has to be a balance of ice and fire. And since the birth of the dragons, this balance is fcked up? Hmmm..

White Walkers are a force of nature that will bring apocalypse. It's like the original Wild Hunt tale or Horsemen of Apocalypse or Ragnarok. Or like the ending of Berserk, the anime tv show. It's a common and old concept. Punishing men is partly true but not just punishing, it doesn't matter if you're guilty or innocent or young or old or baby or woman. One might also argue being human alone is enough guilt but it's not just that either. They see the animals in similar fashion as well.

Think they're back because Ned Stark Winter"hell"ed, it. Think the full phrase was "there must always be a Stark in winterfell that remembers". Think when Ned's dad and older brother were killed, burnt alive by the mad King, he was too young / not the eldest heir, so it's likely he only partially overheard the Stark pact with the white walkers, never being trusted with the full secret. Admittedly I haven't read the books, not quite sure the timeline works out but, it sure seems to tie together well.

how do we know the wights haven't been warring the whole time? We don't know much about them. They very well may have been waging civil wars as the humans have, or against humans (wildlings). They do have quite a size able army which would tell me they have been killing someone at least, right? I'm not really up on the books so sorry if I'm missing something.

I think anyone can access it. Thoros did it and he didn't even believe in rhllor. Once he did it tho, he attributed it to rhllor since that was the god that the red faith had tried brainwashing him with very since he was sold to them as a child slave Just my interperatation tho :) If you want to believe in rhllor that's fair game too. Grrm has implied in interviews that he's leaving it up to the reader But a lot of people assume that rhllor has to be real, which isn't the case. (Although I could see why it seems that way)

So the Night King saving Craster's sons from the fate of Craster, could be a redeemable qaulity. Or maybe because they are born out of rape or 1/2 evil, they can easily be turned. I wish the story went into more detail about what brought about the deal struck between Craster and the Night King.

I tend to believe that the faith started inashaai. And goes back to some initial war of ice and fire that may have spanned continent's. I sometimes even wonder if the "heroes" in the ae of heroes,like garthgreen hand, were either fire or white walker demi gods Imagine a ton of power hungry lords who wanted to live forever Battling everywhere. Like the bloodstone emperors Or even if the wars were separate. The concept of romeo and Juliet,or love, bringing peace to warring nations may have happened multiple times over the course of history...

@@bridge4 oh no I do believe that it started in Asshai, but that's the furthest south east from the battle Azor as it could be, wouldn't you think they would want to be closer to where Azor made Lightbriger? Even if (like you said the battle wasn't fought at the wall) the last battle spot would be a holy ground to them right?

What if the Night King is Azor Ahai? What if the Children of the Forest Condemned Him to be Among the Evil White Walkers. But The Night's King KNOWS of an Even GREATER EVIL in Kings Landing that he Must Be there to Destroy which he NEEDS the Army of the Dead to accomplish that Task. BUT he has to Manage the Number of White Walkers because TOO MANY and Their Evil could REPLACE the Evil he is Trying to Destroy. Too FEW and he will not have an Army Strong Enough to Defeat the Darkness that is coming. The Night's King is Simply Using the EVIL DEAD Army to Accomplish his Purpose.

bridge4 is bridge four from stormlight archive. im northern new parents. parents, spent their lives in manhattan and queen. i spent my early years in queen, then mostly jersey, but i did move back to brooklyn for a year and weehawken for awhile. somy accent is probably jersey with occaisonal new yorkness either adopted from working in the city or having new york parents. or from listening to too much billy joel lol as far as the black stones, i do think we will learn... but im not sure we will in Game of Thrones. maybe in the prequels!?!? or possibly just in season 7/8 history and lore videos on the blueray that would be sick tho. everything related to the blackstone. even the five forts!! and that chair on the iron islands. very mysterious...

Bridge I know this is a old video and I'm not sure if this theory is out there yet but I kinda think the white walkers have always been around but they was just chillin up north until caster started giving his boys to them I think they would of stayed north until gilly took baby Sam south past the wall they was pretty close to the wall early in the season one was really close at episode 1 season 1 they could of attacked manse rayders whole came as soon as he consolidated the wildlings but they didn't until gilly took baby same across the wall
@bridge4

Mance started uniting the freefolk something like 15 years ago, presumably as a means of forcing their way south of the wall to escape white walkers who had started attacking So it seem like the catalyst was around 15/16 years ago. Maybe the birth of Jon snow? Or samwell tarly? As far as the babies, I tend to think that a surprise will be that the white walkers save those babies. Cause I doubt craster actually made a deal since white walkers can't speak If I had to bet, I'd say craster threw his first boy out in the cold to die bc he didnt want competition. And the white walkers saved the child. Granted.... I'm out of my mind lol

@@bridge4 well craster throwing the baby out and the walkers saving it does sound like that could be possible. He was dead set on getting the baby. But it's worth noting that he showed up unarmed and unarmored. He wasn't even wearing shoes lol But u make a good point. The baby wasn't laying out dying. It was in it'd mothers arms... So the saving thing might not be true. Hmm

i think it was a mistake by the show runners. but they spoke about it afterwards saying something like "selyse is such a devout follower, that even without the choker, she sees what she wants to see." basically, she is blinded by her loyalty to the Faith of R'hhlor so even though it was a production mistake, it plays into the theme of R'hhlor not being as "good" as the followers would like to believe

One of my favorite scenes of Davos! 😍 Jon Snow is my favorite character and anytime I talk about why I love his character so much, all I hear is Davos saying, "She was good, she was kind and you killed her!" (Replace the she with a he and that's my Jon Snow.) I believe this is going to come into play one last time before the ending. I believe that it has been foreshadowed quite a bit throughout the story. I think we are in for one last sacrifice for the fate of all men. It's going to be horrible because it's going to be someone good, and kind and a savior for all man kind. I believe Maester Aemon speech, Stannis/Davos/Gendry/Melisandre speech and Davos speech will all tie into the end battle against the NK/WW and it will all fall on Jon's shoulders. I think that is what Jon has been conditioned and prepared for in his life. So he will have the strength to do what must be done when the time comes. Just as he had to do with Olly, even though he loved him.... Kill the boy.

bridge4, no matter what scenario I imagine, it always turns out bad. I'm hoping we don't have to lose all the dragons/magic. I mean, this is a fantasy novel. GRRM doesn't have to leave the ending where the magic is gone and the world is just basically like the real world with a new world order set in place. I hope he leaves the magic, dragons and wolves and such. (He can kill the ice spiders. 😂) I'm really hoping Jon and Dany both make it but I know it's a slim chance. Everyone has their own beliefs of who are the three heads of the dragon. I believe the three is Dany, Jon and Rhaego. (Btw, he is alive and either in Asshai or Volantis temple with the R'hllor people.) Lately I've been leaning more towards the thought that it will be Rhaego that will be sacrificed in the end game somehow. (Not like Melisandre did with Shireen, battle wise or Nissa Nissa wise.) Very bittersweet indeed. Jon and Dany will be left alive but so brutally changed emotionally.
