I remember from a QI from years back: In Hollywood films, when you hear a frog or toad go "ribbit," it's always a frog that's native to Calafornia because they're the only frogs that make that sound. So when we hear frogs in films set in South America, some sound recordists have just gathered sounds from local frogs.

Surprisingly, watching the babies emerge was the least disturbing thing they showed in the screen, it was actually "cute" (ok.. Cuter than expected.. But still weird)

I saw this beastie featured in an old wildlife of the world book, ages ago. It wasn't even a photo. I don't think I actually saw one until it was featured on QI.
