I watch a lot of you tube on Tiny houses, just for fun, but you did such a good job explaining to people who might be interested in building/owning a tiny house the costs. I would say if your home was built today with all the price increases it would cost even more. That person who was unhappy and un subscribed has not reason to take it out on you, at least you were honest. I am so happy for you to have such a happy home and sharing a small part of your life with us, products you like, recipes and such. Happy day to you Adelina.

I think people think small equates to less costly. Often it is the opposite. The amount of engineering and the fact that they have to be mobile to not be subject to housing codes adds to the cost. There are many tiny homes out there that are less expensive. But they may not even be fully finished. They leave a lot for the DIYer to keep their costs down. But that is not for everyone. I love the design and quality of your home. It really shows.

You don't have to explain your choices to anyone. I have heard the same kind of comments about my tiny house. I have lived in different states and I know for a fact that I could not buy a brand new house for the money I paid for my tiny. Mine is also being built by a professional and it's going to be parked in a beautiful spot in the mountains. The smallest log cabin in a spot like that would cost a lot of money. I didn't want an old house I had to remodel, I don't have the skills or the money to do it, I wanted new. To me it is worth it

The evolution of the tiny house movement. Especially in Canada where nothing goes undetected (unless up North in the bush). Certification and meeting codes are a MUST. Otherwise you've just built a very expensive shed. Bravo for spelling it out. People need to do their homework and listen to people that have done the work.

Hi Adelina and Sofie, I'm so sorry you had a negative experience. You are such a positive force in your followers lives. We feel like a family and cheer your life style on with gusto. That person likely needs to watch more Tiny Home videos to understand the different approaches. I actually thought your home was quite reasonable but I have been actively pricing different homes from different builders across Canada. I am getting even closer to my dream of getting my home built and the Serendipity is still my favourite layout. I rewatched your tour video again just this morning. The added costs of insulation for extreme cold and heating considerations, frozen pipes and all of the things you teach us in your videos as well as the certifications to ensure you can even find a legal place to live all factor in. Thank you again for what you do. ❤️

I think people don't realize what housing costs really can amount to in different countries and different states. While I doubt I would own a tiny house in my lifetime, my home is just at 1,100 sq ft. However, I have taken a lot of ideas from watching tiny house videos and incorporated those into my bigger home. I am enchanted by the whole tiny house idea, love the way that the houses are improving over time, both in space usage and lay out. Your videos are wonderful, informative and appreciated. Thank you.

I think Serendipity was very well priced! I looked into having a tiny house professionally built, in B.C., approximately 5 years ago and it would have cost a little less than yours, but was only 8 1/2’ wide and 24’ long, so it didn’t require a custom built trailer. I think the size of yours is ideal, that extra foot in width makes all the difference in the world. I wish you much happiness, whereever Serendipity takes you! 💕🌷

You explained the necessary info about tiny houses very well. We've had an influx of people returning home (New Zealand) looking for houses in recent times which means prices are skyrocketing. Tiny houses would be the answer but evidently suitable plots of land are difficult to find. Our government needs to change this.

Single pain, old windows, would never keep the cold out. At one time I was going to sell double-pane windows years ago, and the facts from this company said "That single pane window is like having a solid brick wall with one brick missing". Even my double-pane windows are no match for what they have today and this house is 40 years old.

Good points. I would not criticize your approach, you are happy with what you built. I appreciate your videos! :) Your tiny house is the biggest I have seen. Enjoy! Regulations sure add to the cost! I would say that through 40 years, my better half and I have built and added on to our conventional home and meanwhile learned a lot of skills. We are just DIY'ers, and we do things for a fraction of cost, materials and tools only, compared to hiring a professional builder most of the time. But that is a life choice for us and not one I expect others to make. (It's also getting harder as we age LOL.) If we did build a tiny house, perhaps to help a family member, then we would do as much of it ourselves as we could. We would need the savings! I've watched a few videos from the listings online of tiny houses for sale, and while many times I have been very impressed, occasionally I have been absolutely horrified by what is being offered by a builder of tiny homes. There are a few substandard tradespeople jumping on the popular trend, unfortunately. ( That is true of conventional built homes in our area as well. ) Buyer, beware.
@catc82333 жыл бұрын
You have explained it very well. I would personally pay a home for under 150k then a home one block away from me that’s for sale at 1.2 mil. Ontario homes are ridiculously high to own. People are not even factoring in winters in Canada where it’s can get as low as -20 or in the summer it can go the other direction with tons of humidity. By the way, I really like your home.

Yet another clear and succinct video, Adelina! In the past, I have heard negative comments about the price of tiny houses based on price per square foot, especially given that conventional houses include ownership of the land both under and surrounding the house. All in, naysayers complain that the overall cost/sq. Ft. of tiny homes is too high. They also talk of the residual value of tiny homes, depreciating in value compared to conventional homes that tend to act as relatively sound investments that generally increase in value. There is merit in these arguments. However, these are not the only values to be considered when looking at tiny homes. Conventional homes in Canada and the US have become more and more unaffordable, in part due to their average sizes increasing dramatically. It will continue to be a challenge to promote unconventional housing options using conventional housing theories, especially when conventional profits made to the industries/governments may be in jeopardy.

I love your aesthetics, your common sense, and your practical approach to designing for the present and future. I understand people have budgetary concerns (as do I) , but it makes no sense to build something that can't be legally parked or is not going to survive the abuses of daily use or time. We have lived in a THOW area for 15+ years and the prices have varied on the THOW size, materials used, climate etc. Some have been as little as $5k while some are $40k, which here in California are very affordable. In my area of the Mother Lode (Jackson to Angeles Camp) we have what we call a THOW crew made up THOW members who are licensed plumbers, electricians, roofers etc. where we help each other build a THOW which cuts down BIG time because we do NOT charge for labour. Labour is always the most expensive part of building any home. We have done our own sheet rock, flooring, windows, appliances etc. Only needed help with framing, roof, some plumbing, wiring (solar) and small wood burning fireplace install on a triple axle frame.

I love your Tiny & I'm designing my Tiny primary based on what you have shared. I'm verbose, sorry, but there's another thing to think about too. There are different priorities between younger & older folks interested in Tinys. There's the younger & working folks who want to save money, cut expenses & live tiny. The small Tinys fit that need. Then there's the older, retired folks who want to downsize, or reduce costs to live off their retirement, or to spend their retirement traveling. These folks can't climb ladders to a loft. That alone is going to make their Tiny longer to include bedroom on one level. We have different priorities for living spaces. We want Tiny, but not too Tiny. And maybe we don't face the same financial constraints, so we can go bigger or add more luxury, because that's where we are in life. It doesn't mean it's wrong or bad. It's just a different perspective on priorities. Well done on your explaining the reality of home costs. Well done indeed.

Tiny Homes in the UK are called residential Park Homes, we don't have the freedom living in skoolies or tiny homes like yours full time unfortunately, although there are 'residential park homes' which are expensive to buy and only in selected areas. I'm looking at living aboard a custom 60x10ft boat on the England canal system for my tiny living retirement in a couple of years. On a quick conversion, that'll be around 240K canadian & over 190K US. So I think your home is well worth the money, but people will always have their opinions x.

@@myBIGtinyhouselife I've designed my layout like your home, but the Stern doors will be where your sofa is and the bed is east-west because the bow doors are at the front. I'm able to have a walk-in wardrobe from the bedroom because the floor plan is obviously level, no loft of course either. I loved your floor plan and it suits the boat layout. When it's complete I'll sent you a pictures or a video tour but it's not for 2 years yet! x.

You are a very nice person to try to explain things to a person who chose to unsubscribe. I probably would have just told them to pound sand. LOL Just kidding.

I think the other thing to consider is that you built in Canada... the price of houses in our cities are much much higher than 150k.

Tiny houses are not for everyone. You have the be right type of person. For someone wants to have their own home to retire. Perhaps you can find a cheap place to park your home. If want to move you can move your house and have options. If you feel it’s too expensive, purchase the basic type of tiny house. That can make the price considerably lower.
