When you said you were going to clean out your closet yeah that's a challenge in itself. When you were throwing down your clothes up came the pale pink turtleneck sweater.. and I said don't throw that away I love that sweater.Give me the incentive to do the same for my closet.

I need to do this. Probably a bit modified but I know I have many things in my closet that I don't and never will wear again. My issue is more emotional than space motivated. I totally understand about the emotional aspect! I’m going to do this and take a picture of the clothes that I have an emotional connection to, put them in the donation pile for a few weeks, and if I’m still thinking about it then maybe keep a few and know that someone out there really needs these clothes right now!! 😊

Love this! I go through everything in my small house at the change of season, and have a ‘donate’ bag that I take to the local humane society thrift store when full!!! And then every spring I take everything out (closets, cabinets, drawers, etc.) to clean and do a thorough go through! Even though I live simply and only buy something when I need it, ie. to replace something that wears out or I consume (like food and shampoo) - I am still amazed how much stuff accumulates over the seasons/year. You are brave to have so many black/dark clothes with Sophie. My dogs, like her, must be in the middle of anything I am cleaning/sorting = and can’t wait until am all done vacuuming to roll around, Kari🌞

I made a list some time ago and did pack some things away- I have so many clothes that I have decided to pack many items away and then as items wear out I can replace them by “shopping” my packed items. Last summer I did donate a bunch of clothes and chose a few colours and items that coordinate together interchangeably for those days when I work in the office. This has made life much easier since I now have a decent wardrobe that is good for both work and home-casual wear.

My entire adult life, I have been guilty of having WAY too many clothes. Clothes were always a fun, creative outlet for me. A few years ago I started drastically paring down my wardrobe and buying way fewer clothes. I now operate with a capsule-ish, limited number of outfits. A: It seems as if everyone and his brother have done de-cluttering, downsizing and capitalization of wardrobe videos. For some reason your approach spoke to me! I think we all have reasons, both private and public why we attach and hold on to things. My brain was scattering all over the place while I was watching this upload. I came away asking myself why. What was holding me back? I am tired of wearing tired looking, faded and worn out items because they have some "wearable life" in them. I deserve better. Better to have fewer, newer and more fashionable items to wear. How refreshing will it be to like what I see when I look in the mirror! No more sighs of oh well......

that is a very nice video, very good idea for the harsh time that some people are having with the price of everything going up, I did embrace the idea of a capsule wardrobe a few years back when I realized that I did not need to buy clothes for only one use because during the week I have a uniform while working (black pants, shirt in spring and summer and jumper in fall and winter, I am in Finland, and a jacket) so why to bother for only 2 days left at the weekend and when one is for rest and the other I did not that many things, now I have fewer things but they are more loved and used. better for my pocket, less stress, more savings, better for the planet ...

I have way too much stuff and so my goal is to try to take at least one bag a week to a resale shop that sells go to a pregnancy crisis center and if they don't sell it, it goes to a church that helps people that are starting over due to unexpected things happening in life. I have done the same a lot of times in the past and I actually find it easier now to keep my wardrobe simple and less is best for me. I’m actually pulling out my spring/ summer bin now and getting rid of things that are a little faded , worn, or just something I really didn’t wear much. I like to make sure I do that before I purchase any new items for the season ahead. Always like to have new t- shirts especially. My less likely to wear again t-shirts and leggings become my pj’s . My work at home clothes don’t include dresses or suits anymore so I’m not having to worry about keeping any of those items around . The outfit you put on at the front door was very cute and suited you well Adelina. Now about Sophie. I am still wearing clothing I purchased over 30 years ago, it hasn't worn out yet. When items wear out the fabric is used for other purposes. I seldom buy clothing, but when I do I buy the best quality I can find, and I intend on wearing it out. For instance, I bought an extremely expensive Gore-Tex winter coat in 1993, people thought I was crazy at the time. I have worn that coat ever since, every winter, all winter. It keeps me warm, it keeps me dry, and it still looks almost new. I am hoping it will last the rest of my life and that I live a long life. Other clothing wears out. Some items I keep going as "work clothes", for painting, bleaching, tough jobs that might damage my clothing. I make a lot of things from the fabrics of clothing that is worn out. T-shirts with holes can be cut up and made into very useful rags. A shirt that is worn at the elbows will provide fabric for making pot holders. An old blanket can become car seat covers. I lead a very intentional life in my own fashion.

It's always good to have regular sort outs. Usually, I go through my wardrobe twice a year (spring and autumn) and get rid of anything that I've not worn in a while. Even though we have chilly winters here in the UK, I do not bother buying or wearing any sweaters or cardigans. Medication, the oncologist put me on, gives me my own in body central heating, so that saves me ££££s (and space in my wardrobe!) by not having to purchase any winter woollies. I do seem to have accumulated a lot of footwear, so I will probably go through that before spring.

The hot flashes during menopause came in handy in the winter LOL.
@LifeinLancashire Жыл бұрын
@myBIGtinyhouselife yeah, they are similar to the menopausal hot flashes, but these are much much worse than what I had when I was going through the menopause lol

This is exactly what I've been trying to work on my dresser and my closet. But I am going through everything from jewelry to shoes to clothes you name it. I don't have a lot. I hold on to things well past the time to get rid of them I'm always afraid I'll want them later or I'm afraid I will not be able to replace say shoes or expensive pants even though they don't fit or I don't like them I think I should save them for a rainy day ugh I would so like to have a nice clean organized closet the kind you can go in and grab a pair of pants a top then go over to the dresser and grab your socks and anything else you need. And get dressed. I don't even want to admit how many pairs of pajamas I have haha the problem with having a lot of clothes is you tend to procrastinate on doing laundry if you have fewer items that all can coordinate with each other you will have to do laundry more often thereby simplifying your laundry pile. I have so much jewelry I haven't worn in years but yet I hold on to it thinking someday ugh it is also a great time to do any little minor repairs to clothing as I am on a fixed budget so I cannot replace at this time. I like your idea of the list you made and how you went through every section of clothing. I think it would be a great idea to print the list on a nice index card or two and keep it in your wallet or purse that way when any if you're out shopping or thrifting you will know what you already have but it will also remind you yes I have say a gray cardigan and yes that skirt would look great with it you would buy the skirt but you already know you have the card again. A few years ago I did this with my kitchen dishes and pots and pans I now can fit all my kitchen stuff in one or two totes. And if I don't have as many dishes my dirty dish pile doesn't get so out of hand haha well I'm hoping that you have inspired me to continue working on my clothing closet and dresser

It's true that a smaller wardrobe means more frequent laundry but the loads are smaller 😁.

I have downsized several times and as a result have what is pretty much a capsule wardrobe. I do still have the scarves though, and too many tee-shirts!

I have a somewhat “capsule” wardrobe. I live in 700 sq ft so it is important to only keep what I truly use. It is easier for me than for some as I live in Myrtle Beach and don’t need the heavy clothing that take up so much space.

I buy my clothes from only two brands now- one is my daily tops and bottoms, the other is swim and winter coats. This strategy keeps my wardrobe very small and manageable.

I know this is not helping, but I like the red one with the deer. But I am not the one wearing either. Did you keep extra winter clothes for when you go visit your kids.? It is warmer where you are now right? Also I am curious if there is a place to store stuff, where you were standing. When you crawled into your closet. Have a good week 😊😺

I’ve been working from home for the past 10 years and my wardrobe has decreased considerably. I have 1 dress, 2 pair of dress pants and only a few dress shirts. The rest of my clothes are my work uniform of sweat pants and long sleeved shirts for winter and shorts and short sleeved shirts for summer. I have a few pairs of jeans and some tops but since I rarely leave the house, don’t need much. And I have no need for all of the dress clothes, shoes, purses and jewelry that I used when I went into the office. I only buy new things if they are needed.
