This instructor is a Combat Diver who has completed much harder training than this. The training being conducted here is basic preparation for courses such as Combat Dive school and BUD/S second phase. If you can't survive a flooded Aqualung Atlantis dive mask and some hydration from the hose, you'll never survive the training that comes after this.

This is very similar to what PADI open water divers have to do during their certification course. There is absolutely no reason why any 17-30 year old can’t close off their nasal passages and breathe through their mouth when 9 and 10 year olds do it everyday for the PADI dive courses. Who knows though, maybe I’m wrong.

@@Fetidaf yes you can still breathe while being waterboarded but the real the problem is that it causes your brain and body to think you are drowning, which sends you into the fight or flight response. Then you go into panic mode because your lungs are telling you that you can still breathe ( not perfectly obviously) but your brain is telling you that you’re drowning. It’s mental as well as physical torture.

My husband is a certified rescue scuba diver, cave diver, sidemount, etc. He says that this exercise would actually be pretty easy (except for the water going directly into the mouth part), because divers learn to breathe through the mouth only and it becomes second nature. He said the mouth part would be a PITA but he’d deal with it
@slaayerr1
@slaayerr1 2 ай бұрын
@@_CrispE_ we are talking about the exercise, not being a special forces member. All you need to do is stop breathing through your nose and breathe slightly through the side of your mouth while spitting out water on exhale. Keep your nose from sniffing, keep your mouth closed, breathe through the corner of your mouth. Ideally as seals you should be able to hold your breath for a long time as well essentially eliminating much of the problem they are having right now. It's to prepare them for when their janky, low cost gear doesn't work as intended in the field. Military grade just is a kind word for saying the gear grade is shit lol

It’s mind over fear but most people fear it because they didn’t know how intense it was going to get. One examples le is I was up at Glencoe Army Assessment Centre and we were lifting bags (from smallest kg to heaviest kg) I got all of them but the heavier bag. As I thought I couldn’t lift it to put it on the platform as I was thin/skinny but not underweight. After encouragement from my fellow team members I eventually got the last remaining 1. I initially had fear upon seeing the last bag and well once I got my mind together and realise I can do it the fear vanished and became more confident in what I can do. I didn’t get into the Army but it taught me more about myself and what I can accomplish if I put my mind to it

This would probably feel similar to waterboarding, which feels similar to drowning, which I can say from experience is probably the worst thing I've ever personally experienced. I drowned when I was 13 bridge jumping with friends for fun, I was knocked out on impact with the water, everything was black, I couldn't hear, I had lost all strength or ability to move my body and I was at the bottom of the river, I remember thinking I was dead, my brother (7 years older than me) dove in and got me out, I didn't even feel him grab me or anything, next thing I knew I was sitting slouched over vomitting on the rocks. They all pounded on my back and I remember everything was just black and I puked up and coughed up a bunch of water followed by continued vomitting of actual vommit. And then after sitting there for a few minutes I got my vision and full sense of hearing back. Got checked up at the hospital after, we rode our bikes back too town, I had to ride on my brothers handle bars because I didnt have any sense of balance at all. back then we didnt have cells to call 911. Then god punished me for my recklessness by giving me a severe ear infection caused by a paracite in the gross river. Thanks for reading.
