Take the last two transfer periods (Summer 23 and Winter 23/24): Leipzig alone lost Gvardiol (Man City), Szoboszlai (Liverpool) and Nkunku (Chelsea). Other notable examples are Freiburg's Flekken and Schade (both Brentford), Stuttgart's Endo (Liverpool) and Mavropanos (West Ham) or Leverkusen's Diaby (Aston Villa). But you can go on: Wolfsburg's Van de Veen (Tottenham), Möchengladbach's Beyer (Burnley), Bremen's Gruev (Leeds).... I don't say that all of them do well in the Premier League, but they were very important for their clubs in Germany. Brazil has historically had some of the best players in the world and yet they have no teams there to compete with the european ones.
@isaacjones5687Ай бұрын
Because Brazils league is set up in a way that ensures teams don’t dominate the competition. One year you can win the league, the next you could be fighting relegation vice versa. Whereas these european leagues do not care, as long as they’re making money. Brazilian football has a lot more integrity than the majority of European football. And also, European teams almost instantaneously poach young Brazilian talent and bring them to Europe, which doesn’t give Brazilian teams a chance to receive the maximum amount of potential, profit and ability wise, which means they are almost always unable to compete. Though that being said, teams like Flamengo, are probably about the same level as teams like Shakhtar Donetsk, Club Brugge, or Olympiacos. So it’s not as if they couldn’t compete.

what a beautifully educated comment you've made here. It's the exact reason(s) you've said here, why French teams don't do well in Europe. PSG hoovers up all of the talent, and so they're winning each and every year. If they don't change the structure there, then nothing will change. And if nothing changes that league will always be boring, and the best players will leave for other leagues. If the Premier League doesn't do something urgent about Manchester City winning each season, eventually the brand will be damaged. The PL allowed City to cheat and grow into a juggernaut for many years, and now it's in danger of turning in the French league. We are all waiting to see what the powers in charge will do about it.

Its very simple jamie. When florentino perez blew up the market with the galacticos with state money lending, the pl had to follow. They sold all their teams to oligarchs that pumped in insane amounts of money. That created that only spain and the pl could compete, with incidentally an italian club. Dutch teams lost all their talent at 20/21 years old to these teams. Same for the French, and even portugese, who couldnt compete. And lets not forget the gap to other leagues in europe became even bigger. Where is Dinamo Kyiv? Where is HJK Helsinki? Where is Brøndby? Where is Galatasaray? Where is Grasshoppers? I mean like Thierry said, it’s obviously money. The average annual salary in Ligue 1 (minus PSG) is about €1m … that’s about €20k per week. There are players in the English Championship on £20k a week. The average is around £10k a week. In the Premier League the average is £60k a week. So if a player has a choice to stay in France at anywhere other than PSG, or move to a Premier League club and earn £40k-£60k then OF COURSE they’re gonna make that move, a professional football career lasts around 16-18 years on average, and if you can guarantee yourself £50k a week for 5 years then you’d be stupid not to take it and stay earning £20k a week
@Prederick2 ай бұрын
Yeah, this really isn't hard, it's just money. The PL has single clubs spending more in a transfer window than the whole of Serie A. Ligue 1's TV deal is a trainwreck and pretty much every club not named PSG is two bad years away from financial insolvency. IT's just money.
@NJTRAF2 ай бұрын
@@Prederick Unfortunately Ligue 1 can't really fix it either, not without a big TV deal anyway. The only thing they could even try to do is restrict transfers in some way, like Serie A only being allowed to sign a certain number of Non-EU players from abroad per season. That would then perhaps focus things closer to home... Personally speaking, if I was running a Ligue 1 club, i'd be concentrating all of my efforts to sign players from France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada plus large swathes of Africa and the Caribbean - all areas where there's a fair few places where French is a spoken language so integration would be a little easier, plus the transfer fees from those areas would be lower than Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and England. Then you can bring them in for a relatively low fee, low wages, give them plenty of game time, then sell them on for a profit with add ons to the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A or Bundesliga and use that process to follow other clubs who've got a similar model

Look at Italy and Brazil. We have plundered in the last 10 to 15 yrs. We used to be the powerhouses of the sport, now we( Italy) cant even qualify for the WC.
