if we're going to report monthly stats as if they matter, then... 22 Feb 2024 - Economic activity in December fell 3.1% from November, according to government data published Thursday, a drop not seen since April 2020. BUENOS AIRES, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Poverty levels in Argentina hit 57.4% in January, the highest in at least 20 years
@leoleo10xd
@leoleo10xd 2 ай бұрын
@@swerdna1970 The fall of the activity is a consequence of the government's sincerity in the economic variables that were being hidden by the previous government, if Milei had not made this sincerity Argentina would still have a hyperinflationary risk of 17,000%, my friend, that's how an adjustment works. Milei explained it in his speech in front of Congress. And that poverty "data" is unreliable because it is a *projection* of poverty based on the variation of the basic basket, not a *measurement* of poverty, the source (unreliable) of that poverty data is UCA, who said that in 2023 poverty was 48% when in fact, according to INDEC, poverty was 42%. The UCA has a record of always giving much higher/lower poverty data than it actually is. It is curious, the UCA always published lower poverty "data" under establishment governments, even lower poverty "data" than the false INDEC data when it was intervened by Cristina Kirchner. When Macri governed, outside the establishment, the UCA began to publish poverty data quite high compared to those of INDEC, being that INDEC became an independent entity of the government again after the intervention of Cristina. Clearly the UCA *overestimates* the data, you can corroborate this by looking up the UCA's historical series and comparing it with INDEC's historical series.

But it really doesn't look so much at the fundamental social structure left behind by Spanish colonization, combined with the masses of immigrants mainly being turned away from rural land they otherwise would have owned and towards the cities, that made the politics polarized and in turn led to Peronism and the messy situation from which Milei is now attempting to pull the country.

@@jaromor8808 the problem is a current situation in a country shapes the votes, and then voters shape the state and the state shapes the future situation. If we just blame the voters, we will be ignoring a huge amount of context. The same is happening in Ukraine (which I live in), our post-Soviet society, despite trying really hard (two revolutions and the current war), does not understand how politics work properly. This allows russia to rock the boat and make it hard to improve the way state and army functions. Also corrupt politicians don't stand aside, they too have a hand in influencing the people the way they want, same as in Ukraine. They buy media and journalists, they feed lies and take advantage of useful idiots. Only very few know how to make the positive change, and these corrupt people distract the masses from the competent activists and politicians.

Both Argentina and Brazil were there a couple time to become better, but Uncle Sam together with the UK will not allow such. I'm gonna be rough with you, and it's not because I'm Brazilian. I'm hoping you guys sort yourselves out, because we already have enough problems of our own and with Venezuela, we don't need you falling apart as well. But I don't think Milei's gonna create the paradise he's saying he will, or at least not to all people. He's still making the same mistake your country's previous rulers did, which was to rely extremely heavily on foreign capital in order to sustain the image of a prosperous and luxurious Argentina, as opposed to a self sufficient one, and I think he'll succeed at that. The question is, for whom. I can see that happening in Buenos AIres and maybe La Plata, with the place becoming heavily gentrified and home of some beautiful architecture, tech firms and cafes. But I don't think that's gonna apply to most people, specially the ones in the interior. Beats hyperinflation, yeah, but I wouldn't call that sustainable growth, even less Nation building. And I'm saying that not just based on your country's history if simultaneously being extremely wealthy yet poor, but on mine too. Sure we never had a Libertarian King or President, but if you ever wondered why one end of Brazil is extremely wealthy, while the other was abandoned to famines and droughts and has only begun rebuilding very recently, you pretty much have that answer.

As an ecuadorian i can assure you, liberalization (with no control at all) and having US dollar as a currency is not the holy grail of economy. National banks in Ecuador are a financial cartel and dont allow international banks to operate in the country and some private companies monopolize the marked with their huge financial force. It is better than before? YES. But to liberalize an economy requires anti monopoly control (from the state or people) and some things like public health and education should not be 100% private (or 100% state owned) , otherwise you keep being a third world country...like Ecuador.

Sorry for being this guy but I want to remind you all that everything is still a big "if". Milei may not be able to fully put into effect his reforms, as the congress is controlled by opposition peronists (PJ) and radicals (UCR). Also an economy takes time to recover, so even if Milei's plans go through, there's a big possibility that an opposition candidate wins the 2027 elections and then gets all the credit for what Milei did, that would be the 90s to 2015 cycle all over again. Not saying the Milei government will fail, but there's a possibility we must keep an eye on, we shouldn't take a rich Argentina in the 2030s for granted.

I am so impressed with the accuracy and caudal of information you provided in this video. I am originally from Honduras, who’s lived in Alabama for 39 years and am fascinated by Milei. I watched hundreds of videos about him. Just before watching your video I watched a video from Steve Forbes to Milei. He gave good advice, and surprised me that he would take the time to make such a video for Milei. But Milei is such a phenomenal maverick that won’t go unnoticed. But you, Aaron Watson have produced the best video article in reference to Milei and Argentina. You are a quintessential professional who did an outstanding job with your production. I feel smarter after watching and learning from you. Keep up with your great job. Blessings to the Argentinians who trust Milei, wisdom and strength to Javier, and inspiration and prosperity to you. For the critical viewer note that at any point in this video it is mentioned that the surplus was achieved primarily by cutting (liquefying) retiree income. It is also not mentioned that the goverment who returned to the IMF for $57bn was a neoliberal one (2018), and not the previous government (so called populist) which in fact payed the so called "largest sovereign default" in history (2001). Seeing the amount of research this video did, it seems off that this information has been overlooked.

Those satements you said are not completely accurrate. You are glad I'm only going to talk about the macroeconomic policies, because if we started talking about kirchnerism's corruption , I would be here ranting all day. The debt payment wasn't thanks to the "populist" government ( that is actually just neoliberal , just like Macri's was, made obvious with last administration). The country was able to restructure itself thanks to Duhalde's policies, that also caused salaries to plummet and devaluation to risen. Kirchnerism hindered Argentina's developement , making foreign investors run away from expropriation. It also didn't stand in favour of the developement of local industries, with retentions and overwhelming, non-sensical restrictions and regulations on the way between entrepeunership and common folks. Apart from that, they also created an awful welfare system that doesn't promote wealth nor productivity, making it less attractive for companies to invest or establish themsleves. The ones that did ended up doing tax evasion. With kirchnerism, Argentina defaulted in 2014, given economical , political and legal errors due to ingnorance, incompetence and a ridiculous agenda. Kirchnerism never managed to make their debt as percentage of GDP lower than 2001's levels . It's funny what you say, when they were the one who agreed paying to the IMF. Massa, economy minister and candidate for the Pink house, was the one who took part in paying the holdouts and is the one Who got off-track IMF's rules( that he took part in fixing with the debt restructure of 2021 ), accelerating the devaluation and inflation process. Blaming only one government is unethical integrity, as all parties should be held accountable of this Mess (including Milei, but maybe he will unintentional get us out of this rut , maybe he will be the beginning of something new and better. But just not with him , I like him but his ideology sucks)

@@nicolascedresalonso1220 Hey, we agree on that all parties should be held accountable, which is what this video is not doing. I am just bringing up that fact. This video praises liberal policies, however the 2015-2019 goverment was liberal did not only did not solve the issue, instead multiplied inflation and even had to place currency control at the end.. We can agree K government payed IMF by profitting from soy exports recods, superplus it brought, and that most of the brutal cuts were done by the previous administration, which in turn, are consecuence of another neoliberal goverment with liberal pollicies financed with debt. There is no need for a debate on corruption, which i am sure there was, like in most governments. I think the problem with argentina economy exceeds corruption, greedy pollititians. Almost all parties have governed Argentina, liberals, socialists, peronists, ending in failure. History from the XX century show decade after decade of periods of economic growth, social rights gains, economy collapse, militar governments witch liberal pollicies, a loop, a cycle that has to stop. When all argentines finally agree on the economic model it should have, thats when it will stop. Agro exports, primary goods, or import substitution, industrialized goods, big state, small state, etc. For what i can see, we are just in another cycle

Things will go the right direction when people stop trying to impose their beliefs, leave their ego aside and work together to get a better country. If 50% of the people hates the other half and celebrates/promotes their failure there will be no growth. Always and upside down loop like the last century. I truly hope this time things do get better. The formula isn’t new, the players aren’t either. Miley has no political career but he behaves like one and he is a populist too (with a liberal flag). I wish people stop their need to pick a team and follow blindly like in soccer and start being more critical in a positive non destructive way. Life is not black and white. Argentina does deserve (and will) get better but it wont happen magically just by destroying what it was. There’s a lot that needs to be build, there is a transparency policy that needs to be adopted. The state does need to have a regulating role (non socialist like) because the market wont regulate itself for the good of people, it will regulate itself for the benefit of corporations. We do need them and we need them hapoy but we also need them regulated because they are as greedy and as merciless as the politicians. And we do have experience on that too.

Really well done video, you do a great job describing my country history and situation on a short video. What you mentioned about the advantages of Argentina for become a wealthy country again is just the tip of the ice, we have a lot more, even more than on the gold age of Argentina where was the commodites our main, now we have at least 5 big potential exports industries, like Vaca Muerta field, also we don't even explote our seas which now are even more big than before, because Argentina expanded his sea platform years ago (if you see Argentina territory including his sea is even more big), also Argentina dominate the complete chain of nuclear energy, something than even big countries doesn't have... If you see the last report of IMF about the Argentina posible grow of some strategic industries like oil and other you will see that Argentina easily can get huge amounts of dollars on exports. Argentina also under Milei's administration is rearming and recovering fast his lost military capacities for those who said Brazil or Falkland could overtake us, is not that simple with Argentina having his own satellite and radars technology, plus the big distance of territory to attack army's will have lucky to even tried, Patagonia is the most wild on world and to reach north you should cross a lot also

I don't like Milei in the slightest, yet the silence of the biggest peronist leaders while the public spending is being drastically reduced is a huge sign that this was inevitable. And Milei's silence towards the corruption lawsuits against his opposition is a huge sign that he knows he shouldn't fuck around with them if he wants a stable government. With the addition of Scioli (former vice-president of Néstor Kirchner, governor of Buenos Aires and candidate for president for Peronism in 2015) to Milei's team, the crazy hair is giving a message.
