Not me on the verge of tears listening to this message while on my walk. "As long as there is war on Earth I hope there is Christmas too." I love that. It reminded me to think about who I consider my enemy and how I can connect with people on that human level no matter what. 🎄 Merry Christmas, Britt!

Wonderful to hear this told as a story. In 1986 John McCutcheon released an album containing "Christmas in the Trenches". A beautiful song he wrote after hearing about this event. He continues to sing this in many of his concerts. The are several versions of him singing this song on KZbin. It's worth the listen. Happy New Year!

I enjoy Christmas just the same way I enjoy Halloween - as a fun part of my culture with a long history of fascinating myths and legends attached to it. It's good to have things for people to gather together around to tell stories and make merry, and have a break from the norm. Hopefully Baby Jesus will simply come to take his place beside Santa and the elves.

We are all brothers and sisters in humanity, the people at the top that send our children to war to destroy each other for nonsense should be the ones out there fighting over holy dirt or whatever they come up with. war is ridiculous and makes us into a bunch of animals. Thanks for the story Britt.

Today I'm having an MRI to check if I still have a brain in here, so I can't be with you while you are streaming. Just wanted to say that I'm working through your tools for the void at the moment and it is being very, very helpful. I'm being given your book as a gift as well so I can study at my own pace. Thankyou for such great content. I'll catch up with this one when I get home. Happy Christmas (other Winter festivals are available!)

I heard my grandpa tell me so many horror stories about WW1 and his trench warfare experiences. He was shot, survived and sent home. I now have his medals. He passed away in 1971, a life long Catholic.

Merry Christmas, fellow atheist spiritualist! Thinking of an atheist approach to holidays, i recall the time someone once chastized me for celebrating Thanksgiving. They told me that the only appropriate way for a progressive to observe Thanksgiving is to observe a "Day of Mourning". Needless to say, i don't invite them to my Thanksgiving.

Every Christmas it occurs to me that we proclaim “a saviour is born” and that no one - and no creature - is saved. (Arguably those who demand we “repent and be saved” are the most unpleasant and least “Christlike” of all). The suffering goes on - arguably augmented by the religion which arose in the arid landscapes of Judea. Both the Entente powers and the Central powers in WWI all believed in the myths of God and Country; how could such slaughter emerge between nations with the same religion? Christian running Christian through with a bayonet. Christians killing Christians with mustard gas.

I'm an individual that I consider between Christian and agnostic. I understand the concept of the video, but there is a problem from my perspective. If you think about it, you can apply the Great War effect with atheism and religion. Meaning that both sides have there own trenches with the rank and file fighting each other, while the high command (religious leaders, religious intellectuals. I guess People like Richard Dawkins could be considered the leading role for atheism, and along with atheistic individuals are urging to keep fighting to win by any means necessary). The problem that is why does it have to be one day out the year to in a literal or metaphorical sense lay down our arms and embrace each other. Only to go back to fighting each other the next 364 or so days of another year.

Christmas isn't a religious holiday for me (and I don't even know what you're _talking_ about when you say "spirituality"). It's a family holiday. And sure, my family celebrated Christmas rather than Ramadan or Hanukka for cultural reasons connected to a particular religion, but that means nothing to _me._ I'm an atheist. The holiday just brings many fond memories of my family and my childhood, that's all. PS. I don't find the Christmas truce in WWI to be particularly uplifting, either. Indeed, I find it all very depressing. After all, they went right back to slaughtering each other. They just happened to be of the same religion, so the holiday was meaningful to both sides. Just not meaningful enough to stop the bloody mess for very long.

They can of course . But I’m inclined to say not without being hypocrites .
@FoursWithin8 күн бұрын
@@1CASSIODORUS No need for hypocrisy at all. It's simply a time for gift giving, spending time with family, and taking a little break from school and work. How a Christian can't see the obvious and instead calls it hypocrisy comes down to a bias. It's not even baby Jesus b'day, it's just a reclaimed winter solstice and ancient pagan celebration time.

Christmas is pagan 100 percent fact

It's really not. Like all old things its a conglomeration of many influences.
