Austin is still living on its hype from 20 yrs ago when it was just starting to go down hill. In the 90s it was a great place to grow up. As time went by it slowly got more and more unaffordable. It finally got to the point with traffic, taxes, housing costs, overcrowding of everything that made it a great city and the basic destruction of what the live music scene was (sound curfews that didn't exist before) not to mention Texas cannot handle the harsh winters that seem to be happening more frequently in the last 5 yrs or so that the family and I moved away. And we couldn't be happier. Good luck Austin... I'll always love you and the memories of how it was

Where did you move to? I am looking to escape Austin, too lol. Have lived here since 1998 and I haven't enjoyed being here for at least a decade at this point.
@cerrbverrx7617 Жыл бұрын
Moved out of there 2 years ago and don’t regret it. Austin was fun at first, now it’s completely crowded, everything is outrageously expensive, people are snooty as fuck, and it became unbearable. So glad to be out of that place

Tesla is being moved back to California from what I was told. Texas may not have an state income tax but they will really sock it to you in property taxes. The closer to downtown, it is, higher the property taxes are. Had a friend sell her house after getting a $30k property tax bill and she filed a grievance but didn't get the tax reduced. So she sold the property for a lot more than what she bought it for.

If you're going to stay in the cold, stressed out dystopias of the northeast because they have good light rail and public transit, I don't even feel bad for you. I'll take everything austin has to offer and stick with my car any day of the week. You must not have heard of the significant downfall in service quality for urban metro rail in San Francisco, NY, Chicago and DC as they face massive budget cuts and rider volume loss due to remote working

Property taxes in Texas is three times higher than CA. And in Texas increases the taxes as the value of the homes, while in CA stays as you bought the property.

It’s not just Dallas, it’s Dallas Ft. Worth. It’s a much larger metro and way more diverse and the infrastructure suits the size of the area. Not to mention the Airports(we have two), all major sports, theme parks, etc. I’ll give Austin 3 things. The Hill Country. The river through DT and 6th street for the under 30 crowd. DFW by a long shot and we can enjoy Austin when we want as it’s only 3 hours away!
@jamesbradley32912 жыл бұрын
Having lived in and went to UT, and compared to CA, Phoenix, Scottsdale, YES, the cost of living is great, home values better than those cities, but it lacks the diversity and culture of the DFW area. But its far better than San Antonio, corpus Christi, Houston, El Paso, Amarillo, Odessa, Wichita Falls, Tyler, Texarkana, etc.

Well, it might be the best place to live for you, but I would never change my Guatemala City for any other place- There is a nice spring-like climate year round, and I am used to the tropical sun and the humid air. There is a saying there is no better place for anyone of us than home, the place where we were born. Regards.

Austin is very expensive. I thought Texas would be so much cheaper to live but it's very close to Cali. To many people and no infrastructure to support it. With what's planned it will the the silicon valley of the South. I glad we got transferred back to Cali.

Austinites sounds like a Saturday night muscle car Outlaw Drag Race team. Austonians sounds like the more traditional suffix or whatever it's called for people who live in a city with a 2 syllable name.

I lived in Austin many years ago when it had a quaint, hip vibe and was relatively affordable. Today it has all the negative attributes of a large city; nasty traffic, poor walkability, unaffordable real estate. The statement in this video that low taxes make up for over-hyped housing costs is just plain false. Sure, there is a lot to do, but it is a hassle. What was a charming place with a rich heritage and a home-town vibe, now seems like every other over-hyped, bloated, trendy big city. 😢

It's a wonderful and vibrant city to visit (I actually visited here in March 2023 around SXSW time). However, with the increased cost of living and traffic issues (especially dealing with the congestion of I-35 and figuring out a sensible/long-term solution), not really sure I'd want to live here. Also - I understand for these types of videos that you're looking for free and/or non-copyrighted footage to include in your presentation. But at around 0:14 - 0:22 mark, you could have at least used a generic video of clip of any place in America instead of a clip of what looks like a motorway going through a neighborhood in the United Kingdom (obviously noticeably when seeing the traffic - driving on the left side, as well as the overhead sign on the motorway).
