Timothee is not socially awkward. While Hollywood interviews have admittedly made him nervous (especially as a new star), his high school days and old Instagram tell a VERY different story. IRL it’s evident that he oozes charisma and he’s very alluring. People with social anxiety are not the popular class clown who performs a nicki minaj song in front of a whole school, those two data points simply do not correlate. That’s all.

He's definitely socially anxious, hence the title of the video. I know a lot of confident and popular people that struggle with social anxiety. It's hard to believe at times but social anxiety presents itself in different ways for different people. My friend that is one of the most popular kids in my school has had panic attacks from social situations where he had a breakdown and started crying. His friends had to physically carry him to somewhere where he could calm down. He's still popular and is charismatic, the statement that confident and charismatic people can't have social anxiety just isn't true.

That’s the misconception with a guy like Timothee, That’s just his personality. He’s just charming in that way, it’s not like he lacks confidence and his personality is not a learned trait. His awkwardness is what charms people, he’s self aware and I don’t think he tries to change who he is. I’ve met many kids like him where they are not “alpha males” but everyone they come across respects their charm (male or female). I’m awkward in a bad way, I can’t talk freely as nothing ever comes to mind, there’s always a angry look on my face, I’m not talkative, not approachable, not sociable, dismissive… yea it’s pretty much as bad as it gets on my side
@twobluestripes2 жыл бұрын
“It’s not like he lacks confidence and his personality is not a learned trait”. Most of our personalities are learned traits. We just start learning them from the beginning of of our lives and when we are very young, unconsciously. Our personalities often change as we age due to previous experiences that shape us. Confidence (or lack of) is absolutely a learned trait. It’s taught to you by people who raised you, as well as by yourself as you grow, so those who started learning and reinforcing confidence young find it feels natural. But those who learned the opposite, to not be confident in themselves, can retrain themselves to feel more confident over time, with lots of practice, at any age. The more aware you are of how your past experiences and the people in your life shaped you, and what you could be doing to practice feeling better, the more control you will have in how you grow and improve as a person. This is for everyone in life, not just social situations like this channel covers!
@davidquintanilla93302 жыл бұрын
It's very clear to me that's he's intensely trained his charisma. Didn't you see how quick he was to share the lesson about the recovery. From his tone u could tell that was his favorite by far, he even went out of his way to give himself recovery opportunities. That being said anyone can do small things to strengthen their charisma. I am on the spectrum. I need a lot of processing time, take things too literally, and have been called things like "psychopath, future school shooter, creepy" and far worse due mostly to my poor eye contact and body language. I get along with people so well now that I kindof feel like a fraud and don't want to keep up with my friends/women. I need to take regular breaks. U say that you are the bad type of awkward and can't keep a conversation going. I can relate to that and I think it is important to hone in on the charisma hacks that will do the most for your specific scenario. My favorite solution to keeping a convo going was by far just slowing down. I speak slowly and pause in the middle of my sentences and got comfortable with not answering a girl's questions for 2-5 seconds. Just so that I could process it and reply with something actually valuable. Eventually people feel you out and give you what u need when ur able to ask for it consciously or not. U should be able to at least ask simple questions comfortably if u master that tip alone. Then I think working on the positivity and weaving jokes into casual conversation becomes world's easier. To me it's a snowball effect. Slow and right is good training, fast and wrong is terrible practice.

I will say one thing that helped me that I imagine has helped Timothee is being involved in theatre. I don’t know how to explain it but you learn these traits from being in live shows. If you mess up, keep going, if you’re doing media for a show, you get practice talking in a professional way, you’re likely around a lot of adults so you end up maturing a lot faster than you normally would being around your own aged peers.

@RL-fr4hf2 жыл бұрын
I disagree with you. I'm not saying that appearance doesn't help, but that is NOT what is making these situations not awkward. He could easily have made it awkward if he didn't have the confidence to just roll with it. One of my best friends is very attractive, has an insane jawline, athletic, quite tall, but he's incredibly uncomfortable and awkward with himself. Meanwhile I know unattractive people who can capture the attention of an entire room merely by their words and expressions. I'm telling you, charisma is way more important than looks. However once more, that's not to say that being attractive doesn't help, it definitely does, attractive people are seen as less creepy, they are usually given more chances (which is probably why attractive people are generally more charismatic, along with the difference in confidence between someone attractive and unattractive) etc etc. This is something we can't deny, but charisma is still king.

The faces we make in reaction to awkwardness, fear, shame, etc. is programmed and automatic. Most people have no control over it unless they work hard to try to program a different reaction way in advance, and even then I'm unsure how much of it we can really change. When our mind thinks we're in danger, it turns to fight-flight-freeze, where it's all about survival. When that happens, our personnality becomes very basic and instinctual.
