For those who are struggling and depressed, I know it isn’t easy. Especially hard to go on when you don’t feel validated, and when everybody around you seems better than you. It’s not all your fault, you were dealt a bad hand. But have faith, a bad hand might be a blessing in disguise, you never know. Never give up.

This is my first time hearing about the idea of the sublime, but it reminded me of something pretty recent in my life(not nearly as grand as climbing everest). I was taking a walk towards the end of this winter about a mile away from my immediate neighborhood(suburbs) and I was went down this long street. It was cold, dry, and windy. It was uncomfortable but peaceful. And I turned the corner and was met with heavenly rays of sunlight reflecting off the grass and trees. The sky looked like a painting. The warmth of the sun and the cold wind was hitting my face all at once. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. The wind felt like it was cracking my skin but I felt this rush of peace and gratitude that I’ve felt only a few times. My facial muscles were seizing up from the cold but I was so happy to be alive and feel something. Maybe I’m being naive but maybe I had a little peek into the sublime.

I choose to disbelieve the importance of starting young when it comes to self-development considering I'm 47 years old and finally able to see/absorb information to the degree where I can not only process it but use it for change and growth. I'm considering my 47 years (and unfortunate zip code, autism, lack of parental guidance/encouragement in childhood, physical conditions and traumatic experiences collected over time as a result thereof) as particular challenges I have been handed in order to develop the unique and infinite capabilities I have been carrying but could not release without the proper sequence of events, like the combination on the padlock of my potential. Yeah, I'm late and Yeah, I'm challenged, but I've got moxy, damnit, and I'm freaking awesome.

Robert, remember that the LEFT brain ( in a right handed person) is the one that leads us into the realm of the divine. It's fascinating to listen to you talking about the low percentage of " chance" for us, evolving as humans for billions of years and to know that only the right brain is talking since the stroke involved your left brain. I am hoping for you and your readers that you will personally experience the divine and then write about it. It's also fascinating to hear you talk about the frustration of small movements and yet your rational thinking at how amazing the human body is and how we should be grateful! It's a paradox and I love listening to the right brain human nature talking about our divine nature or the lack of it. You might have guessed by now that I personally experienced during my first meditation a NDE that was a mystical experience beyond this world. I am Left brain dominant but I'm also a physician and a surgeon. In addition, I have had mystical experiences since age 11 that I did not understand. In fact it was terrifying to me at this age. Now, I am aware of our true nature and very interested in the divine being accessible to some and not to others. It's as if doubt had flourished in the last few centuries... I RECOGNIZED the divine during my experience. It's a non rational experience and this makes it difficult to talk or write about. We all have the knowledge. We have however created and encouraged doubt. Your testimony is fascinating. Everything is relative indeed. I'm waiting for you to let that left brain heal by allowing it to BE. You are a wonderful man. Everything you do is sacred. You have been touched by Grace and it will be happening again, I promise, as soon as you are able to recognized that truth.
@elmtree33

Why do you think Robert Greene has not experienced the divine? Just because he hasn't written about it did not mean he has not experienced it. We are not his intimate partners who know him that well. You are making inferences about people with little to no evidence.

My house and everything tangibly familiar to me was lost July 5, 2021 in a house fire and I was seriously burned, but I have recovered. I even lost one of my precious dogs. I’ve reframed this is an opportunity to declutter and start over with gratitude for what truly matters in life, which is health which is the truest wealth. I live my life with purpose and by design. I turned 60 this year and what a blessing to start fresh going into my retirement years! Radical acceptance 🙂

I thought his “Art of Seduction” was a blot on his reputation. He advocated some ghastly strategies to nail women. It was appalling. A few quotes: “People want to be led astray, they yearn to be seduced. If they didn’t, seducers would not find so many willing victims. Get rid of any moralizing tendencies.” “Never let your targets get too comfortable with you. They need to feel fear and anxiety. Show them some coldness, a flash of anger they did not expect. Be irrational if necessary.” His 24 rules flirts with amorality. Women are described as targets or victims, to be drawn into temptation, and to achieve the seducer’s ends he should attempt to elicit fear in his quarry. Nasty.

A lot of people think "The 48 Laws of Power" is a morality book on how to be but it's not, it's a book on what reality IS. It's not idealistic and altruistic of what should be, it's literally what people are doing and you should try to understand those people MORE because they are often those in power or feening for power. Robert is my unofficial mentor. I also just picked up his new book-- going to have a Robert Greene marathon. Thank you Tom for having him on!

Interview impacted me greatly. I was a relatively healthy fit and active 35 year old woman. Then I got extremely sick sicker than I've been in my entire life after that it turned into post viral syndrome after that a couple of autoimmune diseases surfaced. Then I was consequently also diagnosed with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia I know those last are a bit of an issue for the Skeptics but my neurologist and rheumatologist verify they are legitimate medical disorders, stigma aside, I went from healthy to barely being able to hold down a part-time job and care for myself. I am exhausted and in pain all the time sleep doesn't help I am feeble it's like I went from 30 to 80 overnight and I could absolutely relate when you asked how he copes with his limitations. Every word he said about dealing with his situation struck a major chord for me. You really do have to figure out an entirely different way to approach life and thinking and being when your health and or a vital aspect of your body is taken away from you. Thank you for asking him that personal question

Now that you know it's real, you ask yourself if the way your acting in a certain situation is rooted in reality, or driven by your relationship with your mother. Are you attracted to these women because it is real attraction, or are you trying to relive your relationship with your mother. I had emotional abandonment from my mother. I acted out by having the mentality that I'm leaving my significant other before they leave me. After a year or so in a relationship I looked for any reason to leave her before she left me. As you can imagine I left a long trail of broken hearts and damaged a lot of women. I'm not proud of that. I changed when I almost died. I experienced the sublime that Robert is talking about.

I had a near death experience when I was 19. I left my body in the ER and went with what some would call a spirit and I went around all existence with the spirit and I saw the macro and micro of creation and the essences of creation. I was never the same after that and felt homesick for the spiritual realities

Speaking as someone from Scotland, if you want the sublime, you might want to go for a walk in the Scottish Highlands. It won't be as dangerous as climbing Everest etc., but it will certainly give you a sense of your smallness in the vastness of the cosmos and put things into perspective. In the meantime, go for a walk to the highest hill nearest you and sit and look out over your hometown or the city in which you live and you can get the same experience.

This is a great talk that is at least 3 distinct talks in one. On the point of being a late bloomer, envy, comparison and people who are great at what they do. Such an honest talk that was so refreshing to hear. At some point in my life I hit the place where I both realized that I probably was not going to achieve mastery in a lot of things I always had some level of interest in. At the same time, I found myself being really moved by greatness in just about any field. Watching someone who found their thing whether it was in science, sports, the arts, cooking, I mean literally anything really chokes me up. It is like utter amazement at what human beings can do. The conversation of the first half was also excellent and I sent it to my 20-something son as he in the process of deciding who he is going to be.

This is one of the best podcasts you've done. It's time for people to start taking personal responsibility for themselves - for their behaviors, their part in relationships, everything. Most people are narcissistic, really everyone has a level of narcissism inside of them because it's so engrained in our culture. It's time to change all that.

As a woman and been on my own- had become very aware of people. Learn to mediate and trust intuition. So many toxic and opportunist people who will take advantage and exploit you. People you would never even imagine. But also you have take responsibility to discern and cannot blame the external. My depression was bad for long time and had face a lot within and reality.

The things i have for granted, that is a point i have to remember (and i am training Judo, which i find hard to get from the mind to the body). And also this one: I battle this feeling of inferiority, i am 47 and think i am slow in thinking, that i am no smart enough, that many are faster than me in comprehension terms, that my "best years" are behind, and discovering that, yes there are many better than me, but also that all my experiences begin to cristallize exactly at this age, and with some thought i can get some benefits and advantages for me. I can get on with life. Thank you, Tom and Robert.

At 18:36 in the video; when conscious control of good self esteem (feeling good about yourself) is talked about, I realized I have a very nice anti fragile thought structure that you can attach to this feeling at its base and maintain it in perpitudee as a way to regard yourself and its universally applicable to others too, so I felt I must share it! It is simply as follows: Hold Life as Sacred. My use of Sacred is defined as: entitled to reverence and respect. Also: unassailable, inviolable, and Holy(if you will). So when something is Sacred it is worthy of your respect in your mind. it is likely you will value and nurture it, protect it, promote it, and be more forgiving of shortcomings in this inviolable thing; for it is just that! That which is Sacred IS antifragile to the tarnishing effects of negative truths, it is cherished, preserved at all costs, and its dishwasher safe* So apply Sacred to being alive. It's a Simple criteria and easily decernable; Now, with the idea that life is Sacred that Sacred tenacity and allowance should extend to every representation of life; i.e. Living things like people, yourself, pets, and animals ect. So while the ego in you throws shade into the spotlight of your self esteem. Said shade cannot cast a shadow of doubt on its shine as we remind ourselves of its living status and thereby setting boundaries for the minimum value of the standard its treated To.. If life is sacred and I am alive I represent a facet of what I hold sacred and will always be of value if not simply in that regard. A bonus is that this is also true within others! so from a life is Sacred frame of reference Respect as a concept and practice is inherent within any interactions with other living things, so none of that hater ass rudeness upon meeting till you earn clout shit. Just respect up front cause your alive. Not to say a person can't loose my respect, but when It is lost there is a line still, one ensuring safety on some level from actions which would take away or decide life's corse for someone or something else * Because you can " not respect " someone till your blue in the face but you should respect yourself by maintaining that (their life) which is Sacred to you. And with that you can weild this thought structure through the trials of addressing the depths of truth that amalgamated to form you, and with your self esteem ensured solution for dudes quandary is found! *just kidding but it is organic!
