While Baldur's Gate III winning GOTY was a great achievement, we also must acknowledge the absolutely terrible production of the show, many award winners we're given a pitiful amount of time to accept said awards and give their speech. Ads got far too much space, guests showcasing upcoming releases and other promotions were like 3x that of the actual award speeches. Larian Studios barely had the time to remind the audience of the unfortunate loss of staff and mourn. Their Cinematic Director passed away 2 months ago before this event and little thought was given from the audience or showrunners. (There are pics of signs being shown to "Wrap it Up"; absolutely disgusting). They never got to announce their game had come to Xbox either.

Calling the Awards rigged for awarding a game made by a studio thousands of times smaller and with thousands of times less money than Sony is pure bias. Most of those creators don't know a thing about Baldur's Gate other than it beat their favorite game in an awards show, so it's unfair to make claims against it while not understanding what it did to earn those awards.

@@mermidion7552 It’s because the Game Awards is weighted way less towards fan votes and way more towards their panel of judges, many of whom are game critics. they did... and they didn't. They showed what's possible when youre community funded and given the appropriate time to make a game good. They didn't show why that was better than what the other producers currently do, like at all. For a fraction of the investment, those companies can fund something that does less than half of the innovation, and make exponentially more money. Did BG3 sell well? Sure. But it needed to to make them any money at all, which is why its great that it sold exceptionally well. I beat Spider-Man 2 once, one time and 100 percent completed it and probably will maybe play it again once or twice for fun here and there. With bg3 I’ve already played it fully 3 or 4 times and there’s still things that I’m just now discovering you can do and new dialogues I found out you can do! I haven’t even done arguably the coolest fight in the game against Raphael yet, and am still discovering cool and unique things. In my personal opinion bg3 definitely deserves game of the year because it genuinely is the best game of the year no question in my mind, however I will say one thing, I think yuri deserved best voice actor award, however Neil newborn did such an incredible and amazing job as Astarian and nailed every line he provided and produced even when you do something as crazy as kick him in the balls. It’s the issue of people staying in their bubbles and have extreme level of tribalism and the needs for drama to fuel their social media career. Every winner of this year’s award is basically the devs that are the best at that category, and if you play a broader selection of games it’s easy to accept that. The Spiderman games were good in the PS4-PS5 era and they created a fan base but that doesn’t make them automatically the best. Like Larian specialises in RPG and their two big projects have won in that category consistently. Or it is just the fact that you can’t beat Square Enix in the soundtrack category in the year they release one of their major lPs, because they have a storied history of doing so. It’s a simple fact, just because you like something doesn’t mean it’s the best in everything.

I played both and 100% spider-man 2, I FRIGGEN LOVE SPIDER-MAN 2 AND ITS STORY AND EVEN THE EVOLVED MILES SUIT, but compared to BG3 which was my first introduction to Baldur’s gate, it just didn’t compare, it was too good and deserved all the rewards they won. As someone who grew up on BG1&2 i was ready with my credit card the day early access was available Ive never felt more HEARD as a member of a games community. Getting to watch BG3 grow and then surpass any and all expectations has been so effing lovely to just sit back and watch. Also yeah, Neil deserved every ounce of praise. Even beyond how well he preformed, soo so so many people feel such a deep connection to his character. and im not even talking his stan army, but people whove experienced trauma. It shows just how far good deep character writing just really shines in a game setting, and how important it can be to the people who consume it.
@samf.s.773111 ай бұрын
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you have to pay for early access? Edit: Ah crap I looked it up and for the time it was full price. It's of course more expensive now paying for AAA games, the price went up by 10 USD I suppose getting to play it ahead of time is the justification for the price, because I know many people who would pay full price to get their hands on a specific AAA title years before release.

Excellent video, absolutely agree! BG3 is one of the best games ive played my entire life (Been playing games since late 90s) I also Greatly enjoyed Spiderman 2 but...Lets be honest, even if BG3 didnt come out this year... Spider-Man 2 wouldn't of won GOTY, Alan Wake 2 or Zelda would of won it (yes AW2 is so damn good i think it had a solid chance against Zelda). Heck RE4 Remake was a vastly better game then Spidey 2 even, Spidey 2 was a Good game surrounded by absolute Monstrously Great Games in the nominee line up.
@BetaComboZ11 ай бұрын
Sadly, I think Spider-Man finally having Venom again during a year like this is unfortunate for them. It's still the same formula as the other games so it doesn't shine like the rest. Good game, but yes...ToTK would have probably beaten it. (I haven't played Alan Wake 2 yet)
@firefistgaming11711 ай бұрын
@@BetaComboZ yea Venom was definitely the best part of Spidey 2 but the game was still to "safe" as a sequel. AW2 is Absolutely worth checking out, if not for BG3 personally it would prob be my GOTY, that or RE4R but I am a sucker for that Genre lol. AW2 is much more impactful if ya have played AW1 and Control first however, Still great without those experiences but it certainly enhances it if you've played them.

Baldur’s 3 isn’t just GOTY, people need to understand that it’s top 5 best games of all time, if not #1. Baldur’s Gate 3 set the new bar in gaming in general. You can’t say that about any other game the last 10 years except Witcher 3, let alone GOTY. This year was one of the best year for games and BG3 still absolutely blew all competition out of the water now and for years to come. It’ll likely be 10-20 years until a game beats BG3. BG3 was that good. 30hrs in I was like yo this without a doubt obviously goty this game too good…

makes sense though, BG3 really isnt traditional "turn based". Most people who tend to dislike turn based games think of final fantasy or pokemon...with a lineup and no movement options just....take a turn, choose attack....next. Bg3 turn based involves so much more than just take a turn pick an attack, move on.

I want to spend some words about narrative, characters and freedom. The thing i love in BG3 is that the story almost gives you only the incipit,and the entire story is REALLY written by your actions,choices and consequences. Besides Shadowheart (wich you can recruit or kill) you can avoid every companion and play a full lonewolf run. Characters are all so well written that you attach to them,and you can have a friendly or not friendly relastionship with any of them depending on you actions or tastes in company,and they evolve their personality in good and bad always depending on you; there is not a script that takes the story on a binary, and the game rewards you for NOT doing things the way they do (how many times in a game you said "why the protagonist can't do like this?", well here you can do it). A little example of not having a script: Despite hating her in the beginning for her attitude,i do choices that ended up keeping Shadowheart's interest torwards me. After some long rests she propose to spend time together,and then i start loving her,and she says she doesn't want to become a Dark Justiciar anymore. Later in act 2,she has the chance to become a Dark Justiciar,and Narrator tells,thanks to my bond with her,i can easily convince her to let go her dark ambitions. I fail a persuasion check and i was having a heart attack because she threathens to kill me,but i let her do and she keeps the right choice by herself,and after that she confesses her love and,in the end,i have an happy life wirh her. What's the cool fact in this story? Is that other games would have write this story on a script,in BG3 this story has been written by YOUR actions,with consequences; your actions takes to neutral/friendly/unfriendly/love relastionships with everyone that will have different story for each other. You fear for the fate of everyone because,after you love every one of them, YOU write with your hands their fates,not a script of a story already written

As someone who beat spiderman in 3 days(playing after work everynight till about 3 a.m) it was incredibly mid, not bad at all not terrible, i enjoyed playing and agree it was fun, but even on the hardest diffuclty it was incredibly easy with no challenge and made me feel like it was a kids game(which makes sense for a super hero game) I platniumed the game on my 4th day after work. Im still on my first playthrough of Baulders gate that i made on launch day Now baulders gate ive been playing it on and off and my god the game is just chefs kiss, theres so much content so many ways to play, different mechanics that im learning to make my team compositions stronger encounters that can take me 30 minutes to an hour to complete, and i feel so much more interested and involved in the world because all my actions have actual consequences in the game, even the characters in my party are dynamically changing and evolving their personalities based on my choices. The writing is god tier and the acting is superb. Spiderman 2 had a good story aswell but it wasnt anything worth remembering, and as for gameplay the symbiot suit felt like the only real "innovation" to combat, i will say the web wings is chefs kiss swinging and movement always feels so good. But yea baulders gate is just objectivly better than spiderman 2

The games for the average folks who don't really like video games (spider man, 2k, fortnite, call of duty. Etc) are for such a different group of people than baldurs gate 3. Like the kids who work for me. They wouldn't understand deep gameplay mechanics and they sure as shit have no idea what player agency is. It's this simple. For spider man to even sniff the depth of BG3 you'd be able kill Mary Jane. Reanimate her dead corpse to ask her about it. Then hurl her body off a skyscraper and hit the green goblin. Who would then have voiced dialog for that exact scenario and ask you about why you hit him with your dead girlfriend.

Ones an action game another is a roleplaying game. I wonder why the roleplaying game has much more meaningful interactions than spooderdude. One is a cinematic experience while the other has you buckled for a ride with total freedom. With one game you beat once 100% it and maybe down the road you can replay it again for the same exact experience. Bg3 you can do a dozen playthroughs and have tons of different encounters with so many branching paths and outcomes. Each story can have tons of variations and different outcomes it's impossible to 100% it in one go

When I first saw the trailer for bg3 I knew I would love the game, I love dnd I play in a dnd campaign DMed by my big brother. So I was excited! I have not even played through the game yet, my laptop has issues running the game and I do not own a PS5 sadly. So right now I have three games running: Nox the tiefling sorcerer who I cannot play on my laptop, Styrmir the dragonborn sorcerer I play on my youngest brother's laptop and Sylas the dragonborn druid that I play in a sort of co-op campaign with all of my brothers. Basically my oldest made a Dark Urge tiefling warlock and I made Sylas while my other 2 brothers pick companions to play during battle or roleplay moments. My youngest brother chose Karlach and my other brother chose Astarion we are at act 2 right now playing through it blind and I am loving every second of it.
