I grew up with beagles. My first lived 16 years and she was my best friend. Later down the road I got jinx 1 years old now. The best part is how friendly they are with other dogs and ppl. She's just like my first. Stubborn but friendly. That's my favorite part.

I love my Beagle. A four year old named Dixie! She is a quiet dog for a Beagle and usually does not bark or howl. She may bark occasionally when she wants to be let outside or when she sees a strange person. But other than that, she is a very quiet dog for a Beagle.

hmm, interesting 1. my beagle never howl at home but makes sure people on the opposite side of the door gets deaf! 2. i walk my beagle off leash than on leash. great recall and she makes sure to check her 6 to make sure i am coming too 3. she is a guarding dog in a beagle clothes. makes sure i wave to acknowledge the person on the trail otherwise that person is not going anywhere. 4. training was a bit of challenge. i ultimately gave up on "paws" "roll over" etc. she comes when i call right away. she sits everytime i ask her to but never over 5 seconds haha but, thats all i want. i want her to come around while hiking and she sits to wait for people get off the elevator. 5. they have great character and very strong mind of their own. one time, after we hiked, we got into a restaurant and i ordered a beer (bad idea when you are tired) when i tried leaving the place, she wont come, she would play bow etc so i got curius and went over to the table we were sitting and i see my backpack hahaha i dont knwo if she is looking out for me or the fact that there were her treats in the bag we will never know :)

I do enrichment with the puppies I look after and I use food in about 90 per cent of the games I play with them. They have a secluded area of the house. Look at it as a fairly large crate, the kitchen! They have free access to the backyard and it’s securely fenced and gated.

We have a beagle mix and all of this applies to her!!! She is a monster yet also adorable and full of personality! She looooves everyone and gives relentless kisses to greet you….she is clingy, neurotic and has a perpetual worried expression on her face….she is highly sensitive and if you are stressed she picks up on it. Unfortunately unlike some other dogs who respond to that with a comforting presence, she gets even more stressed than you are! Still we love her and would not trade her for the world!

I love beagles, we had two ( sisters ) when I was growing up. They do make greats pets ( a word I never use ) and always let strangers know somebody was home all the time. Our two did shead that's true just like a lot of other dogs, as animals they do like to eat and like a fat person they will eat everything. So some of your comment is just plain wrong or maybe just ignorant. Beagles make some of the best buddies a person could have.

You are wrong. My beagle and I go for walks with her off- leash. She may wander but always checks that I'm within her sight.!!! She comes when called too! So, check what you say for thorough Facts before airing it.

Beagle's try hard to be friends with everybody. Even when they get scolded for doing something bad, like..... scarfing food off the kitchen table or barking at the neighbors for 2 hours streight, the Beagle always wants to be your friend at breakfast time in the morning.

My son bought me a hunting bred beagle, she has so many colored tics on her she’s very loud at her howling it’s very different than the city beagles near my mom’s house. But she’s my pet and my buddy.

Every issue brought up can be remedied with training. My last Beagle Heidi4.0 was a heck of a service dog. let me know before I would have an issue, would get my meds - the correct ones based on the issue. She would bring the phone to me when there was a call and was great off lead with an e collar. For the most part imho they get their heads out of their butts @ 2-2.5 years of age. She was a 'failed' hunting trainee. Wouldn't go after my chickens/ ducks or my meat rabbits I raised. 6 mos after I got her I reached out to her former owner / trainer to go over how he trained her so that I could build on what he had done vs trying a different training method. We brought her to the local Beagle club and she ran 1 rabbit for 20 min and a second one she ran for 25 min. She ran those rabbits past us 20+ times each.The trainer wanted to buy her back and offered a multiple of what I had paid him for her. He didn't believe she wasn't attacking my live stock until I sent him photos of her sleeping w/ the baby bunnies and laying next to the chickens. Hell of a dog until Lyme (yes she was vaccinated religiously) and cancer took her. Her successor Heidi5.0 has her issues being young and a bit more of a pet then service dog. She does the job @ home and on the property but struggles a bit staying focused on the job when we go out- a little too much of a social butterfly. Fingers crossed she improves as a trained svs dog is so darn expensive w/ no guarantee. I didn't realizes how much I depended on Heidi4.0 until she was gone and the lack has effected what I feel comfortable to do with out my doggo safety net.

You know the only thing my Beagle did on this list was be noisy, but about after age 1 and a half, she would only bay when I would play with or strangers were around. And oh boy my little Beagle didn’t have much for hackles, but she went after someone who tried to get in my house. She was friendly if she knew the person or we did, but if it was some druggy, like happened one time, she about took that person out, and she held her ground against much bigger dogs, like a pit bull one time.

beagles are the WORST dogs ever!! 1000% disobedient, rolling in poop, shedding like its the end of the season, they eat ANYTHING, loud as absolutely any other dog, running away when they see a feral black cat across the street, expensive vet visits, they destroy anything remotely remote control looking, credit cards, checkbooks, letters, junk mail and leather couches. No I don't own 2 beagles. They own me.

You can walk a Beagle without a leash. You just need to get a electric shock collar and train them to follow your commands while wearing it. My Beagle, Dixie, wears her collar when we go for walks and I can let her run loose. You need to have a good quality collar that you trust and you need to become proficient with it's use. It should have a tone, vibrate and multiple levels of shock intensity. Avoid shocking the dog too often, because doing so desensitizes the dog to the shock and teaches it to respond only to the shock. Which is not something you want.
