Michael Goldstein is the co-host of the Noded Podcast and President of the Nakamoto Institute. In this interview, we discuss the re-launch of the Satoshi Nakamoto Institute, ending the fed, libertarianism, monetary economics, and preserving generational Bitcoin values.
“We can’t just assume that the next generation is going to know why they should run a node, why they should hold keys, why 21 million is important…it’s generational knowledge for generational wealth.”
- Michael Goldstein

Bitcoin isn’t a USA centric digital token. Would be great to hear from guests from all over the world. Too much focus on USA FED and politics as if it directly correlates to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is global.

You could make the argument that the more high quality 4k videos exists of you that is recent the easier it is to identify you, changes in your face as you age , and even use AI to make fake videos of you. Keep in mind that Michael is a high target not quite as much as Assange and Appelbaum but in the same category of high risk individuals. From what I have seen there are only lower quality older videos of Michael

One of the most amazing experiences is going to see the mayan pyramids and hearing the tour guides explain all the stone art work and carving and engravings and stories and belief systems etc... it was amazing what they were aware of, and yet also heart breaking at how far off the deep end they could be carried by high priest narratives. We are the same. Bitcoin will be the 8th wonder of the world. It will be toured and talked about for centuries. I pray we understand ourselves better because of it

Im really not into the whole "rothko is shit" argument that the bitcoin standard has inflicted on the bitcoin community. Totally agree with both Peter and Goldsteins views, but neither argument seemed to address the problem of this train of thought, that bitcoin will make art a studious life pursuit that carries humanities essence - I dont buy that. All art is reactionary, especially these days. The beatles form of rock n roll were a reaction to the 50s, and then their brand of psychedelia, was a reaction to stale songs about get togethers and break ups. These are revolutionary leaps forward and people still listen to the beatles today over any new modern garbage, but also over Bach and Brahms. Bach and Brahms cant rock out. They cannot do what Sonic Youth, or the Cure do for people who need that type of infliction. The velvet underground is the perfect form of music in my world, and I absolutely love and adore Classical and Jazz compositions. Ravel can make me cry. Does that mean in my world he is better than VU? No. Does that mean I would want Ravel on Voyager 3 going out to the stars because more people agree he a better expression of human emotion than the VU? No, I want "What goes on" playing on loop for all eternity out towards Alpha Centauri and beyond. Just because the orchestral arrangement has a very functional, very emotional sound and is steeped in years of tradition, doesnt mean we will still think that as a race in 400 years. We will still appreciate it with the same adoration, but we cant assume that humans in 400 years wont appreciate The Beach Boys "God only knows" with that some fervour as a similar monumental achievement. Classical (in its pure and most known forms) is incredibly vast in its exploration within the rules of functional harmony and beautiful melody lines. Art rock and alternative rock and even the beatles classic and functional kind of rock is a reaction to the soft flutes and padded strings. Classical can rock, Holst The Planets Mars bringer of War comes to mind. But it cannot do the kinks in the way we need the kinks to do it. One can argue that classical musics exploration of harmony is a greater example of human creation, but its limitations make music that is reactionary against it not just necessary but equally valid. If classical music cannot do a fundamental thing that we need music to do for us, like say, the beatles, then how is it the definitive example of all emotional content that should represent humanity? If you are into music, as a musician, there comes a time when marvellous functional music stops doing it for you, and you need to go deeper into weirder Sun Ra's spiritual free jazz, or the liquid guitars of my bloody valentine, to scratch your ever growing need for musical itch to do more than just the norm. There are loads of ways that classical music is creative within certain harmonic boundaries to create monster effects that are absolutely soul crushing, but that does not make it better than the kinks distilling emotion down to 3 chords through an amp thats breaking up. They have accessed a primal human feeling with doing less, which I find impressive. Distilling things that humans can react viscerally down to less is a high form of art. Doing more with less, can be harder then doing more with more. This is how I view rothko. Sure, it may not take the years of perspective and anatomy study to do a rothko as it does to do a Diego Rivera mural. But the raw beauty, which Peter puts nicely as "dramatic" using very basic building blocks of minimal colour and and shape to achieve a large human emotional response, this is the appreciation of all things in the universe. The universe is basic, and raw and beautiful at its fundamental level. It can take artists their whole life to understand how to control that simplicity, to have that revelation that humans can find beauty there, to see something that takes a real soul or real craft. Now, I wouldnt go as far to say that I like all modern art in general like Peter does, I think a lot of it is a bit of a piss take. But in saying that bitcoin, even though it will fix a lot of things, does not need to fix art. Art is fine, artists will always make art, its how appreciate it that needs to change. Artists are known for the cliche of being poor and broken inside, they can still accomplish primal screams in a fiat world. My only hope is that a bitcoin world, in where people can afford to more educated, and spend more time with art and music and literature, can make people appreciate real art again. When the world can unanimously recognise someone like Cate Le Bon as a great artist, instead of Taylor Swift and her team of 30 producers. When people appreciate a great scifi book instead of the shitty netflix offering, when people value human interaction over 30 second tik tok videos. Artists will always make good art, just in this day and age you really have to search for it in the underground, as the public dont appreciate it, which doesn create the environment for underground music to truly flourish in the way that we let the beatles just rip. A lot of artists dont have that funding and backing to explore their world to its logical conclusions. That doesnt make their efforts any less brilliant. "We had Da Vinci on a gold standard and now we have Rothko on a fiat standard" Thats total bullshit. What does that statement say about Picasso's work, who learned to paint "like a master" in a traditional and classical way and then ditched in 180 degree fashion to explore "painting like a child" for the rest of his life. Some of the best art ever has been created under times of the most hardship, the most strain, the most struggle. Good art represents a time, an emotion and a place, or an expression that cant be said with words and does it succinctly so you understand within your human antenna. And if two colours can do that and open channel of real emotion across time, for you to experience - thats fuckin mastery. I love bitcoin, and I think it incentivises a much better world that I really hope comes to fruition. But as a musician and an artist I think this is the most lacklustre argument and it peeves me to no end. Culture is poor right now, and people want and consume fast food culture, because of this they do not have breadth of art history knowledge and music history, or time sitting with great paintings, to recognise a brilliant art by their own volition. If the person hasnt spent time making any art, or doesnt regularly try to appreciate any art, who are they to say what is good or bad art? Rant over haha - Sorry...

Its a bullshit interpretation of menger that mises PERFECTLY refutes goldstein: "If the objective exchange value of money must always be linked with a preexisting market exchange ratio between money and other economic goods (since otherwise individuals would not be in a position to estimate the value of the money), it follows that an object cannot be used as money unless, at the moment when its use as money begins, it already possesses an objective exchange value based on some other use. This provides both a refutation of those theories which derive the origin of money from a general agreement to impute fictitious value to things intrinsically valueless4 and a confirmation of Menger's hypothesis concerning the origin of the use of money."
