I'm a therapist in California and I've not come across many black male therapists.The only one I know at this time just changed changed positions.

It really is very alarming statistic, especially when you realize that black folks are most at risk :(. Thank you for watching and commenting. Stay well.

Great summary. Thank you for bringing awareness and being part of the solution. This will certainly encourage Black men to seek the therapy they need for their wellbeing.

Why doesn't the industry reach out to black male students? Farm the future
@thehealthymindandbodyshow3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The answer is somewhat complex because I know for a fact that schools do really want to diversify their programs. The world of psychotherapy is just not something a lot of black males are interested in, for that matter males in general. And the path to become one is quite long. So I am not really sure what that answer is at the moment. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏾

Hey brother great story!! What would be the purpose of a blackman becoming a psychologist or therapist!!
@thehealthymindandbodyshow3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. Outside of the world of therapy and psychology being great fields, the notion of representation matters is quite relevant. You really can hardly find black male clinicians, and for many people seeking therapy, not being able to find someone that they can relate to can be a turn off. So it’s just important to get more black males in the industry.

I tried hard to be receptive to this video ... but our upbringing is based om foundation as you know back home principle and values and standard is the back bone of who we are . We need to admit the negativity of the pushed agenda of therapy. We already seek to do whatever white people do to feel superior we bleach our skin we study doctrine that dont even apply to us. If not for financial gain from the pushed agenda of pharma companies wanting the world to feel depressed to profit off mind alterating drugs. Theyre fully pro bono lawyers that help their community i have yet to see a pro bono therapist. Seeking a woman approval can be weak it can be informative but naturally men lead so turn to your fellow man your elder your pastor . Because a female perspective is better than theirs cant be truthfully explained. In yard or foreign we are losing ourselves and who we are to outer influence the same people telling you that black men are weak are the same people are telling pickney fi wear dress instead of trousers . Tell the truth about the negativity of therapy and people who felt robbed by therapist felt worse after and depression growing after what is being forced . Whats wrong with putting God 1st who created you and accepting who you are ? Love yourself ! Strength comes from within .. bring back masculinity end toxic feminity and toxic pushed agendas

Thank you for taking the time respond to this video. Of course we are going to agree and disagree on things which is not a bad thing. I am not sure if I agree with you on a push agenda of therapy, more that it is helping to break the stigma of therapy. And to be honest the way in which therapy is done does not work for every group because quite frankly it is based on a white male Anglo-Saxon viewpoint. So you are not wrong on that standpoint, which is why there is a need for more competent black therapist, who can approach the field from a more multicultural standpoint. I also agree with you that big pharma is too vested and influential in the health sphere. In fact, if you watch my latest video kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6vRq2pmpdaaqdk you will get some idea into how I plan to approach psychotherapy. And like any field there are good and bad therapist. But I can assure there are plenty of therapist who are doing pro bono therapist, and clinics who are doing great work but don't get the recognition. The reality is people aren't necessarily looking for them, Finally, nothing wrong with putting God first, but we still have to do the work. Stay well.

@@thehealthymindandbodyshow i have to apologize if it came across harsh that was not my intention.. just had a long debate with a cousin who i believe is 4 years married now and he was born in the states but grew up same way. Now when he speaks everything he says is as if she speaks for him and he does not sound like himself. But i have subscribed and liked the video. As you know and explained the struggle of culture difference when it comes to these matters . With the anglo saxon viewpoint Bill cosby spoke about the dangers of therapy being pushed on black children and the systematic programming and the attack on black masculinity... needless to say i hear you why they need more black therapist but the idea of us needing to express our feelings or we will explode i feel is programming as well no matter the face. Why military was praised and we grew up hearing it makes a man out of you was based on emotional dicipline. We as a people grew up on church and prayer we grew up on order and whatever struggles there may be being told to man up used to be viewed as a positive. Back home depression isnt an option .. people are poor but they dont know it they smile run a boat ... something simple as julie or east indian can fix any struggles of the day lol something that God provides. My question i guess is why the push the change when before the talk of how black emotions are handled alot of modern issues in the black household did not exist.

@@dakidcalledl all great points. And thats why I say the notion of therapy does not have to fit the white Anglo-Saxon model which is what a lot of black philosophers and spiritual advisers argue. And yes there is nothing like running a boat back home and the blessed vibes that come from it. Miss those days :). Stay bless family and I certainly appreciate your insight and subscription :).

There are a lot of black male therapist, keep searching in the meantime while you exercise daily, eat healthily, meditate and self talk, research coping strategies. Do the things leading up the therapist. Therapy is a process to help a person uncover the best version of yourself and even hidden pain that could be enabling spiritual grief.
