totallyright!! most of her films had her as the village girl in virsat, the rebellious vengeful daughter in Hu Tu Tu, the forced to be be submissive housewife who cheated on her marriage in Astitva, the exploited bar dancer in Chandini Bar none of these films had that "happy ending" you went out the theater always full of questions... and then all the south films that were cringe not due to her role as the vunerable girl next door or the powerful cop with one or 2 action scenes but it was the pairing always done with Nagarjuna people loved it and I just couldn't see the pair be compatible because her roles were so downgraded in comparison to his, its all about the hero in South especially all the 90s garbage films i loved her as Kiran Patkar in Kohram but again she had to be the corrupt cop where Big B and Nana got more clout alas Indian Movies be it bolly or tolly are way too Patriarchal .

Same thought, even though I grew up watching some of her films like Hum saath saath hai,Chachi 420,Prem but later I realized that she could never had that stardom in 90s like Madhuri or Karishma. By the time Aishwarya,Rani became the leading actress Tabu was given supporting roles or unusual roles like Maqbool,Cheeni kum which are not very mainstream. I believe the reason can be she is not a dancer as in BW one needs to look good, act and dance as well to become a superstar. Kajol cant dance but she had Karan Johar to give her movies opposite SRK who ruled 90s,2000s. That can be another reason that Tabu rarely got chance to work with the superstars like SRK,Salman etc But glad recently Tabu has got recognition by doing movies like Haider,Fitoor,Andhadhun,Bhool Bhoolaiya 2 where she overshadowed the leads like Sharaddha,Radhika,Kiara,Katrina etc.

It's true. In this video I have found what I was thinking about tabu after watching bhul bhulaia2 trailer. She really steal the heart of audiences by her outstanding performance. She is amazing. She really have an ideal body shape size and height. First I think that the bhul2 bhulaya movie is boring but after seeing tabu in it I got excited to watch it. What I might say may seem mean, I honestly don't mean to belittle other actresses, but it was industry demand or audience preference but Tabu is a natural actress, she is really subtle, and embraces the characters naturally but in 90's if you see most of the characters and actresses were mostly bubbly sometimes the characters were loud, the female characters were almost never the strong characters, but if we watch Tabu she herself can carry a show...she doesn't need the industry as much as the Industry need her . And I am glad Audience are recognising talents like contents...the shift in the industry has made audience recognise her talent more than the previous decades

This kind of perception comes out when you don't research well about her. She never had regrets about the choices she made. She did pretty mainstream films when she started out with Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar and others. Then Maachis happened - that's when she realized that she liked good films and not just hollow commercial films. She wanted meaty parts and not just glam decorative roles where she'd dance and have nothing more to add. She turned down Kuchh kuchh hota hai (Kjo mentions it in his autobiography), She turned down Kabhi Alvida na kehna too. There are many films which she didn't do which were mainstream, if I started writing - it will become an essay. Her doing a small role in Virasat was important to her because she felt it would add alot more to the film. Some people are on screen whole time and yet can't leave an impact and here she'd steal scenes. She went on a break in late 2010s. Before that, she was the auteur's actor. Hansal Mehta, M.F. Hussain, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sriram Raghavan, Mira Nair, Madhur Bhandarkar, R. Balki, Gulzar etc. are no small filmmakers. They are all very known. She loved commercial cinema too. Hera Pheri, Biwi No. 1 are out and out comedies. She never had qualms about acting in entertainers. The problem is - Tabu has two left feet. Which means, she isn't a natural dancer. She was removed from Mann because she was taller than Aamir. So alot of things worked against her in her prime given how traditional the industry was. Urmila and Tabu were not your typical female leads. They changed the way hindi film heroines are written.

I swear i was thinking the same why taby was not even there during the promotions of BB2 and even after the movie is hit she is not even mentioned here .
