I set mine up so they're optimized for the most aggressive riding I do, but comfortably reachable for when I'm just bumbling down a trail.

So how many of you actually listened to that whole episode of the podcast that came out in September and got offended? I mean before a KZbinr who obviously thinks that he is not a good enough rider (constantly talking about how much harder the trails are than they look / putting an extremely wide angle camera on the helmet to make things look steeper / adding a steep alert graphic and so on) told you to be offended with the way he took those hot takes out of context and framed them accordingly? I guess not many, since this was obviously not meant to be taken seriously and only someone very insecure with their riding would take them as an attack. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Ryan is not a good enough rider to have the following he has, I feel like he thinks that. Not unlike another ex-youtuber, who became unwatchable because he always tried to convince everybody, that he was a better rider than he was. I (and most other viewers) don't care, if a content creater is a good rider, just if the content is good. But if you think yourself, that you're not good enough, every bit of banter seems like an attack...

@ThiccBoi69420

You have to set the lever very flat, almost pointing up a little bit, it helps a lot. Im also a 3 baller, so I adjust them flat af. This also applies to the monoballs too.

For decades I had my levers angled in line with my forearms because it seemed logically to be the strongest position with the least hand strain. I finally decided to try the near horizontal lever angle after seeing so many good riders using it, and wow, I feel so much stronger on the bike with that lever position. And it's not just when on really steep terrain. I'm a one-finger-always-on-the-lever-rider, I never death grip, and that lever position does something to my body position, even on mellower trails while not braking, that allows me ride more confidently and looser. Where that lever position absolutely does not work in combination with my index fingers always on the levers is steep jumps. It does not allow for pulling the bars back to boost lips and forces me to push through and fly low. I tried death gripping but I dont feel comfortable with it yet, so I leave my levers untightened just enough to move down when I'm sessioning steep bmx style jumps.

most of the braking force is needed when going downhill and I agree that setting them parallel to the ground when stationary and flat is extreme. This will however change when going down as your levers and bike will be at the angle of the slope and that may feel way more comfortable....

Probably for most people but for me I run close to vertical. When going downhill, it keeps my elbows forward, my wrists are straight and I’m evenly balanced over the BB. This just works for me and is very comfortable.
