Desperation to land the right job doesn't mean I would be terrible at the job. In fact, it probably means the exact opposite. Number 2 happened to me a couple times. The first job I interviewed for last month after graduating was really cool and I had an amazing interview but for some reason, they never called back. The Hiring Manager all but hired me on the spot. He told me to come back next week for training... and nothing happened. The same happened another time after that. I have come to understand that the level of enthusiasm they show in the interview doesn't really amount to anything, so I do my best but I don't put an obligation on the employer to do anything anymore. I learned to accept that I may not get hired even if I have all the qualifications and had a great interview. It's just the way the world is.

Same thing happened to me when I applied at a Best Buy consultant position. A week later, sent me an email reading there were other candidates who were better qualified.

I just do not see that situation in someone's life, actually mine right now, being some exciting thing. I agree with her five points she talked about but just not the exciting endeavor part. It's not. It's frustrating, emotionally draining, stressful, a drag on one's self esteem and self efficacy and all the while, one has to fight all of that internal stuff and at least appear to be confidant in an interview. It's a challenge from the get go....not an exciting endeavor from the get go.

Linda, I love your videos - they are extremely informative and concise. I have been unemployed for 11 months now and have to put on a "happy face" during each interview and treat it as a new adventure. I do tell stories describing how I've solved problems for companies and also bring samples of my work instead of simply "telling" them my skills. I do smile frequently and am upbeat, give eye contact and ask questions. Yet, I am still convinced that there are "gray areas" in HR hiring practices. Companies may already have an internal candidate in mind, but make you go through the arduous process of interviewing a panel of managers and come back multiple times. Also, many job descriptions specify 3-5 years of experience with a college degree. This practice is clearly geared towards attracting a younger employee right out of college because they will work for less money and will not likely retire for a few decades. So, what can a seasoned employee do when nobody wants to hire them?

I can relate to the emotional roller coaster feeling. Hope goes up, disappointment happens, emotions crash. I have been hunting for a month and was wondering what is the key to finding emotional stability. Your emphasis on focus and re-framing how you see the interview is insightful. Thank you!

11 months...no job. MBA with two agile certifications. I have absolutely no energy anymore...just accepted being a loser at this point. I pretty much accept being rejected even though I can put on a good front. The ATS recruiting systems have made it impossible. I'm either overqualified or underqualified. This is insane. All I do now is sit in my car and deliver food to people now. So much for schooling, so much for my 10 years corporate experience. Screw it

I either get rejected the day after I apply for a job or I never even hear back from the company I’m applying to

Not exhibiting a negative demeanor or rejecting the suggestions, but it's not always the candidates. Often times its the recruiters. Sometimes, they tend to pick who they like or know oppose to the most competent. That's why there are people who are confused when they convey or converse with others on and during the job. Then the company has a weak ROI and high turn-overs. This continuously caused the company to search for candidates with a continuous cycle. No one owes anyone anything... well some people do;however, How would a candidate ne a best fit when their not granted an opportunity?

Once, I went for an interview for a retail job and the manager said I was hired. Great! I filled out paperwork and manager called to fill out more the following week. Didn't hear back for next 2 weeks. Called to ask if everything was ok, was told manager is scheduling things. 1 week later, have not heard anything. I get an email about harassment training and go in for that. Manager stated in email she tried to text me, but I have not received anything from her. Nothing a week later. I try to call a week later and the phone just rings and rings. I never knew it was possible to be hired and then un-hired...

5 reasons: 1: lack of optimism / confidence 2: put all of your eggs in the next interview ( instead make a connection with the hiring manager) 3: self rejection / doubt 4: compare to others ( you have value to offer) 5: feeling desperate than excited Note: i applied for more than 180 jobs in the last 2 months and I have interviews almost everyday. But I am not reaching the 3rd or last round of interviews often. I don't even feel sad when I get rejected in my last round interview. I got used to it. I don't know if it's a good thing or not 😮💨

8 weeks!!! I've been looking for 3.5 years for a job I would enjoy doing, and I have a lot of experience in different areas and worked in sales, I had my cover letter and resume redone and I'm very positive and am always adjusting, I am very confident and feel I am way more qualified, more knowledge and more passionate than most people.

i resigned a job in NY... and have had 15 years of experience in NY.. i figured I would have no major problem finding a job in Las Vegas. I had to deal with Lymphoma Chemotherapy for 6 months. Now, I am concerned about my healthcare, and my future. I have had around 14-15 interviews, and no job offers. I am kinda perplexed. I am feeling not good enough, so I decided to try another career. I am now trying to find work in a dispensary, and have gotten no call backs. My job search is sucking in Las Vegas.

So I've been having some ups and downs looking for a new job. I recently had an interview for a Marketing position with a top tech company that took a few weeks. One week I had a call with their Cali--based recruiter. A few days after I spoke with their NYC-based recruiter. A week or so later I had an person interview and met with the NYC recruiter and had Skype interviews with 3 other people. THEN, that Friday or the following Friday they also had me do a video interview with 2 other people I'd be working with. I followed up with one person, who directed me back to the Cali person...Who called me back a few days later and told me I didn't get the job. Even though everyone seemed to be impressed with me, I just didn't have the experience that other candidates have. On the one hand, it feels great to have been chosen for an interview with this company. That does great things for my confidence somewhat. But then it sucks that I didn't get the job. I've been getting some interest here and there...I'm waiting to here back from one company about the final interview I had 2 or so weeks ago, and I am in the process of the first steps of a Marketing Coordinator position for one company and a Content Development Internship at another. I've been contacted about an Editorial Writing Internship that ended up not being a fit for what I expect from a position financially. I've been working on my brand for some time...Making sure I have a decent social media presence that amply showcases what I do. And it seems to be garnering positive results with some of the companies I'm applying to. But I know that in order to really impress any/every company that comes across my resume, I need to make sure my next role is full of opportunities to build KPIs for organizations. I want to be able to say that as a result of content I developed, links had an average click rate of 60-80% for social campaigns or email, etc etc, an average of 150 likes or shares, etc. I have similar metrics for a company I worked at as a content writing intern a few years back, but I really need to push those results much farther. I need my next opportunity to give me the creative freedom to develop and market content, as well as work within established protocols, so I can really build an even more impressive resume. It's disheartening to be so close yet not close the deal on my next job yet.

For Europe, its different in America... When you apply on indeed or Monster, only go for job ads that that have a phone number, phone the hiring manager(ess), if you can't talk to the person, he or she may be trying to avoid you, which is ominous, also avoid all small companies, as their job ads tend to be fake, as they are only interested to show off that they are a growing company that selects employees, and they tend only hire friends.

Some hiring business would rather save money and hire in house instead of outsiders. It's all about saving money. Not giving outsiders a fair chance in getting the position. "Jobs", want you to have experience. How can you gain experience if some jobs or all jobs don't give u chance unless you have experience. How can someone get experience if they don't give people a chance. Thanks for the advice.

In my instance, I feel psychologically burned out by jobs I am overqualified for and want to change to something that would be the next step but because I have 15 years of sales & customer service, I am running into I just don't feel connected to anything to be motivated to much but I have to work which just makes the burnout much worse, especially as every potential job tells me I am sorry this didn't work out for something or another. Also, I see that it is extremely hard to be highly confident in one's abilities if they were depressed or anxious going into it. Even as much as they may try their hardest to be confident or headstrong, if they are already challenged in some way things will be that much harder to take the next step.

I am so so done. I can’t even find a first job, I’m seventeen and it seems like every kid at my school has found a first job and is making their own money, I’ve been applying to places all summer long and the only success I’ve had was getting hired at a place that was too far away for me to work at. Other than that I have had no one else get back to me. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, I don’t have much experience but how else am I ever going to gain experience if no one wants to hire me? It’s like there’s something wrong with me I just don’t understand. I feel so behind.

Ive been trying and trying. I have very little computer skills because I started in real estate in 1990 in my fathers office, I was there for 22 years! We did things the old way.. no computers, which by the way is much more difficult. I am very smart..but sadly I'm weeded out due to the lack of computer skills. I got a job the other day as a caregiver...I was soooo thankful. But get this..the night I was to start the elderly lady died!!!!! My luck is awful,, I have all these bills due, and Im losing hope. If I get your lecture clearly, these are the five main reasons why I can't get a new job offer: 01. Looking for a new job becomes a chore. 02. Get disappointed & lost further interest in the job search/hunting. 03. Overlooking oneself or self doubt. 04. You are not professionally present. 05. You feel desperate rather than excited. I am seriously facing number two because I lost hiring decision twice within the period of two years. What is the way forward to me now? Mabor, South Sudan in Africa 🌍🌍.. Thanks

I'm having trouble finding and keeping a job.. I've had 5 different jobs in the past 3-4 years and attempted 3 different colleges within those same 4 years.. I have severe arthritis in my hips, knees, and ankles, which makes it extremely difficult to stay on my feet for too long.. Walking around the store sometimes is really hard.. I also have severe depression, anxiety/panic disorder, really bad social anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, insomnia, and Central processing disorder.. Which makes it hard for me to keep up with the pace of the job, or learn new skills as well as be social with others..
