Content creator and artist Megha Rethin explains why Canada’s government wants fewer international students. New policies unveiled by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government could led to the deportation of thousands of Indian students. This decision could also led to less interest among Indian students for studying in Canada.

The problem is that international students specially from India expect to eventually get PR as soon as they step in Canada and if they don’t they get very angry. What they don’t understand is 1) you come here as a student on a student visa and at this point you only suppose to be here for the set amount of time of your studies 2) getting PR is a long and complicated process that is not guaranteed by no means

If you saw the slogans given by the Canadian govt you wouldn't blame the students..but good thishas been done. Now....but the intent is not right .. its just done for elections ..

@@SEEMASHARMA-gp7us when you decide to study it clearly says in your sop that you will return after your studies… every students ticks this box so it’s there fault. It’s basically like you play a game and you might win or lose. But when you lose you should be mature and accept it don’t wine and blame the game. I had friends who played and lost they accepted it they never protested because they understood it’s a chance

Frankly, if it happened in your country, you would not accept it, but the truth is that the Indians took the jobs of the Canadians.🥾🇮🇳

If International students can’t afford food then they need to get money from parents because when they applied for admission they showed that they are self sufficient and can support themselves. It does not mean to exploit food banks. Don’t know what this lady is talking.

The information is incorrect. The students who are able to find good jobs do get PR. The protesting students know they wont be able to because of intentionally studyinh on colleges that they dont have to attend and provide no degree. PR is a privilege and not a right. Also, sorry to say, but the punjab people are treating this country as punjab and creating nuisance. Punjabi music is played on loud volume on public places. For context, imagine tamil music being played in Delhi. There is no consideration. Not all but many. Normal summer time jobs are taken over by Indians leaving Canadian students with no jobs. With the influx of immigrants, the rents are going way above the normal. You knew the risk you were taking and now holding the government responsible for you not being good enough is sheer stupidity and entitilement.

Canadians are raised to not hate and to embrace diversity (including being taught this in all daycares/schools). People need to look at all sides. India has a 29% unemployment rate amongst it's own graduates. One of the big reasons why young people are leaving India in droves, yes? Plus less than 50% of the 950 million working-age population in India is employed (compared to over 70% in other emerging markets). Amongst the Indian working group, many are self-employed and contain “unpaid helpers in family enterprises”. India has one of the highest emigration rates in the world. As many zero in on education as a way to gain access to a western country? Did international students/families pay into Canadian taxes all their lives like domestic students have (earning cheaper tuition fees)? No. Plus Canada did NOT tell international students/parents to spend/risk their life savings on a "Canadian dream". Canada did NOT tell international students to borrow money. Canada did NOT promise international students work. Canada did NOT promise international students money. Canada did NOT promise international students PERMANENT RESIDENCY. Meanwhile freelance agents have been operating in an unbridled market in India. Often by painting a distorted picture of what students can receive from Canada. Plus in recent years, a new type of recruitment has cropped up via foreign nationals as many "edu-tech" have created online platforms to connect millions of potential students with the recruiters. The sub-agents have absolutely no no direct connection with the Canadian college. Plus the college has no no ability to control their conduct. Indian sham operations abused/abusing Indian students in person &/or via massive advertising ... PRIMARILY in their native language that most Canadians do NOT understand. They paint a false picture in the minds of their own people (of what Canada could or would or should offer Indians)! Canadians are seeing primarily Indians protesting & waving their flags on Canadian streets making demands. Because they may not have enough credentials to remain in Canada? And because rules designed to protect CANADA are not meeting their desires? Why isn't there repetitive crowds of African or Caribbean or Filipino etc., students making demands? They're in Canada too. And Canadians are seeing the Indian protestors carrying signs telling Canada (one of the most tolerant countries on the planet) to end it's racism (by not deporting)!!!!!! Really angering Canadians. Plus signs saying CANADA used them ... with zero mention of India's numerous mistakes! Angering Canadians. And even though Canada is being falsely/unfairly blamed for too much, Canada has yet to deport students like crazy (but likely will soon). Instead Canada has been trying trying to find balance of who can stay vs go. While also trying to fix anything Canada did wrong. Create a better future. Why? Because Canadians actually care about doing so for both Canadians and international students. Canada's own are also victims of greedy Indian 'agents' who lied about Canadian PR to Indians. Due to severe lack of homes & entry jobs in Canada partially due to Indian STUDENTS creatively swarming all post-secondary SCHOOLS, with vast majority fighting for PR versus returning home without it when SCHOOLING ends! Many asking for asylum too (which Indians rarely qualify for). Canada PR has NEVER been tuition purchasable. Questions: ⦁ What is India doing about any of this? After Canada told India to halt Ghost Consulting? Many Indians keep saying their politicians are corrupt. Plus Canada didn't have numerous PRIVATE 'diploma mills' until 40% of international students were from India. Many in or near Brampton Ontario, and Surrey British Columbia, where most Indians have lived. Coincidence? Schools that Canada is now shutting down. ⦁ What about all the YT videos that primarily Indian nationals have posted (for half a decade now including today) all advertising Canadian PR like they're selling a shirt? Promoting Canadian visas & permits & schools & jobs etc. etc.. Videos not only posted hourly but rarely in English or French. With very very rare input from Canadian citizens. ⦁ What about the IELTS spouses? Anchor babies? ⦁ What about Canadian food banks & other charity services being recklessly advertised on YT in Indian languages? ⦁ What about Canadian housing being scooped up en-mass as investment vehicles by, and for, foreign nationals? Some home rental/boarding signs stating "vegetarians only can apply". Often these 'landlords' also cram 20 students in a small home and charge them each way too much for rent. ⦁ What about Indian nationals buying local businesses then repeatedly putting Indians only in the top tier positions (while also changing familiar work practices)? BC & Ontario are also outlawing the Caste System. ⦁ What about the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortions across Canada? Diasporas stirring up tribal hatreds (in Canada) even though it all stems from their ancestral home. Why???????? ⦁ What about the Canadian government launching investigations in regards to foreign interference in Canadian elections, stemming from Asia continent? Canada also had to end flagpoling at the border. Canadians are so so so not used to all this!! Do Indians care about Canadians suffering too? Or do they primarily want to point fingers at the Canadian government etc., when many things weren't in Canada's control (yet)? Why should Canada pay for what Indians did to Indians? Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed and for all people (including immigrants) to be okay. Now everyone I know is VERY happy with IRCC's recent changes (reductions & multifaceted investigations etc.). Including multi-generational long-term Asian Canadians MOST upset (by all of this).

I'm sorry but the common denominator, in not getting along amongst themselves while in western countries, are South Asians. Its now causing citizens in western countries to second guess opening certain doors. Yes? No?

Nothing to point fingers at Canada....but yes, if anything Canada has a faulty immigration policy that does not take the interest of the Canadians into mind......Canada is a country with a small population and it cannot allow such a huge number of students into their country each year most of whom want to stay back....obviously for the reasons you pointed out above many Indian students want to migrate....so the mistake is primarily that of the Canadian Government which forgot about its own people....

There are already about 1.9 million Indo Canadians accounting for about 5% of Canada's population....over and above that another 0.5 million Indians are there with student visas...so Canada asked for trouble and got it...why blame the Indian students....

@krishna3311 we blame Indian students because INDIAN students are causing the most trouble! Creating a ruckus, breaking laws, dirtying places, being rude with impunity...all the while thinking that Canada OWES then something! We'll we dont! It was THEIR CHOICE to come and we accommodated...now they DEMAND a right to stay just because we are nice? Not happening!

Housing problem was already brewing in Canada since a decade ago. The problem this time was the high unemployment rate due to increase in student intake and Temporary foreign workers. Pandemic time changes in immigration lead to this disaster otherwise Canada’s PR process was always fair and quick.

Wrong info, draws are still happening but the problem is the high CRS score is high(500+). Unfortunately, providing their education, exp, etc. many of these student will never be able to acheive that kind of score. No matter how many time government provide extension they will never receive an ITA. There are students who were able to hit this target and are getting the PR.
