As a Nigerian-American I have a lot of love and respect for African American culture and was fortunate enough to experience both while growing up and it gave me a different perspective on things. This conversation is very nuanced but it's important, first and foremost we those in the diaspora have to realize the damage that's been done to our AA Brothers & Sisters. The CIA and FBI were clearly responsible for the destruction of the AA community, in fact I personally believe that AA community was the pilot program for a majority of the issues we see in society today on a larger scale. "They Cloned Tyrone" on Netflix alluded to the same thing. The AA community was the test run for how to destroy a community. Throughout the 60s,70,80s,& 90s they took away leaders and destroyed family values, this rippled into a generational issue. CIA & FBI essentially put the house on fire but instead of putting out the fire society turns around blames AA Black Men. That being said, now that we know the house is on fire, and who did it, the important thing is to first put out the fire, and that's done by promoting values, community, and family structure. It's best if we in the diaspora respect and learn from each other that's what makes us human at the end of the day. We don't choose the culture we grow up in the same way you don't choose the race.

Your black American ancestors were African, it took a while for an African American identity to form from the collective of slaves on plantations in the South. The Whitney plantation records this in some way by the wall of names, hundreds of thousands of names initially African and then eventually exclusively European and Christian. As a black American I can honestly say that we’re just not that into Caribbean culture. Not the food, the music, the fashion. I’m sure there are some that are but the great majority aren’t. Yea nah i always find it interesting when these types “Caribbean this and that” something, as if theres some big caribbean counsel representing all nations that came together in a group project and created a style of music and decided this is all of ours. She wants to gatekeep it but if it truly were from the beginning she wouldn’t have it… It’s interesting how theft is ok too alotta people, depending on the thief. Carnival or Soca from Trinidad gets taken and all of a sudden it’s “caribbean”…Reggae Dancehall from Jamaica is taken and it becomes “caribbean”. Reggaeton from PR is taken and it becomes “Latin”… The 2nd certain people gravitate toward it now its recognized as stealing…Very interesting

I'm a very proud Jamaican man. Africa is our motherland. Jamaicans are Black people, just like Black Americans or Black Trinidadian or Black Cuban... There are Black Americans who are highly respected however there are Black Americans who play heavily into the stereotype and those are who are labeled as YANKEE, honestly, Caribbean and African people don't want to associate with them, it is a culture thing... I am a PAN-AFRICAN and I embrace Black People on all continents...
