This video:
My thoughts on why tomahawks make sense for modern everyday carry.
The vast majority of tomahawks on the market aren’t designed for comfortable concealed carry and can’t be modified for that purpose.
We designed our tomahawks to be ergonomic and wearable.
I’ve been wearing tomahawks comfortably concealed every day going back to 2016 with our earliest Backripper Tomahawk prototypes.
In 2018 we launched Wingard Wearables Co and today we have many tomahawks in the hands of happy customers who have upgraded their everyday carry.
Check out what tomahawks we have in stock at:
www.wingardwearables.com/shop-1
Thank you for your time and if you have ideas for KZbin videos, please comment below. We gotta make this a regular thing for the twelve special people who watch our videos.

The most effective weapons during the High Middle Ages was not the longbow or the sword. It was close contact weapons designed around the small belt axes of the Norse - including maces for their incredible blunt force shock. Smaller belt axes and even very light tomahawks have a high blunt force value as well. On the American colonial frontier, no woodsman would be without one as a final defense weapon. So, there's a lot to be said about using a warhawk for defense. Carrying it is another matter. Although, there are very small climbing axes that may be in the size range that makes it doable.

An axe, especially a tomahawk, is an aggressive offensive killing tool that strike about three times harder than a knife of the same weight. Military infrastructure sometimes still use them today they’re just not mandatory or standard issue but definitely not shamed or frowned upon by legit military units How does this apply to self defense? Amazing deterrent. Exceptional for breaking locks and doors, ropes and cables etc and god forbid you have to fight something like a wolf or bear (I understand there’s a super low chance but if you camp, etc maybe?) or wildcat you aren’t going to parry it with a sword or block it with armor, your best bet besides having a firearm is a hack of an axe to the head.

There is another way to wear a tomahawk every day. Unfortunately, it does not involve concealed carry, but it is quite convenient in the wild. The method of carrying is in the hands, using such an axe as a walking staff. It was quite common in the territories of modern Czech Republic, Slovakia, Western Ukraine and Hungary sometime in the 16th - 17th centuries. Such a hatchet was called valashka. But it differs from the tomahawk only by the name and the long handle.

I gotta say, it seems like Cold Steel intends for you to cut down the handle on the Trail Hawk. They just send you their standard 22" but a handle of that size defeats the purpose of the compactness off the tomahawk head. I cut my Cold Steel Trail Hawk down to 14.5" and fashioned a leather frog to carry on my belt, I carry it towards the back of my hip and it is very comfortable. Hardly even realize it's there. Not quite as tactical or concealable as the backripper, but definitely very utilitarian and not cumbersome at all. Love carrying my 14.5" Trail Hawk. Always a good friend to have out in the bush.
@wingardwearables
@wingardwearables 2 жыл бұрын
Glad it works for you. Shorter handles throw better too. I think Cold Steel intends for customers to do a lot to all their wood handled tomahawks-including sharpening to a functional edge. But they are fun to mod. I own 9 of their tomahawks and it has brought hours of enjoyment doing all kinds of modifications. If you are interested, check out our video “Affordable Tomahawk Mods for the Cold Steel Trail Hawk, Vietnam Hawk, and TOTW Belt Axe”. Thanks for your comment.

Please consider making a video showing how concealed carry of a tomahawk really is feasible. As much as I’d like to believe that I would carry a tomahawk, I have a hard time really understanding how it can be placed within the pants and remain intact and still more or less comfortable while sitting down, being seated in the car,Not popping out or becoming loose with repeated cycles of getting up and standing down, etc.… Not jabbing or digging into one’s flanks by being leveraged out of position by a pant leg.

Adam, we just posted a video based on your comment. Please watch and let me know how we can better tomahawk carry feasibility. I don’t think we did a great job on that latest video-it was more tips on carrying them instead of showing actions and motions that demonstrate how the tomahawk stays in place and moves in the body. In 25 years in Tucson I only seen it twice and I was out and about nearly everyday in my service van. The real issue with swords is that they're awkward and in the way of doing things, best left at home. A hawk has a more practical footprint but safe carry vs a one handed draw seems at odds against it.
@wingardwearables
@wingardwearables 3 жыл бұрын
@@dennislloyd494 yeah, swords are cool, but modern life requires more streamlined weapons. Swords and even big fixed blades get in the way or are uncomfortable sitting in a modern butt cupping car seat with the seatbelt on. @@mattisenberger4042 Yeah swords are cool, but I don’t see them as practical given modern furniture and transportation-not easy to get in and out of a car while wearing such a blade.
