After years of looking but not touching, I finally tried on some Cartiers recently. Here's what happened when I tried on the Cartier Santos Medium, and why I didn't even bother trying on the Tank!

I own the large blue dial model. It’s one of my favorite pieces. Is it posh?, yeah sure but it’s one watch that my wife and I can wear on special occasions. And resizing the bracelet is the easiest thing. I usually let her wear it but if she’s wearing gold that night, I get to wear the Cartier. It has a great movement and a wonderful dial with a good execution of the date function.

Very nice summary and I can see how itbwould make a great uniwatch with that easily adjustable bracelet

Hi you should try the large grey dial adlc version. Doesn’t look too big in grey, date function, lume, anti magnetic to 1500 gauss, looks really sporty on the grey rubber strap and can quickly switch out to bracelet with the quick switch system. Fantastic value for money versatile watch😀

I have this model and I have to say I was of the same opinion about Cartier but I love mine

I was the same and thought I’d never waste my money on a fancy Cartier that I wouldn’t know where to wear until I tried on the black Tank Must. Now it’s part of my rotation - I put it on a blue Delugs cut-to-fit rubber strap and wear it with shirt and jeans all the time.
@TheRandomWatchDude4 ай бұрын
That sounds like a really nice combo, to get the vibe you're looking for. I reckon the leather strap on the Santos would definitely calm it down a bit for informal wear
@meandertaker4 ай бұрын
@@TheRandomWatchDude A custom-fit monochromatic leather or even rubber strap should dull the watch to a great extent, in a good way, although I’m not entirely convinced the Santos would be at home on a strap other than the original. Perhaps the Santos Dumont? The Tank though is relatively easy to dress up or down so I really like how surprisingly versatile it is to own and wear.

When I got my Tank Solo it changed my rotation completely. It took up 90% of my wrist time…with casual attire, with dressy attire…it goes with everything. And timeless designs never feel out of place.

@@johnd-xd9sn I know what you mean. Who would’ve thought a rectangular watch with the water resistance rating that’s lower than a diaper’s could be so versatile and enjoyable to wear? I’m glad such a timepiece can still surprise the lot of us.

I have the Pelagos FXD MN23 and wear it on a Watch Gekco Octopod clasp and elastic strap. I love the Santos de Cartier and it’s a robust watch with 100m water resistance. The Green Dial is a great choice. Then the blue dial.

Another great video. It has always been that little blue sapphire jewel thing on the crown of that has been the deal killer for me (for those models that have it)... it just looks a little foppish.

I’m with you, I really like the look of several Cartier including the Pasha. I like the way look and sit on my wrist. But I don’t think I’d wear them often enough
@TheSlowoldman4 ай бұрын
The Pasha is just quirky enough to grab my attention, although I don't know if I'd have the occasion to wear it often.

Love the Pasha…picked up an extra thin neo-vintage version a few years ago. Superb watch and the legend makes even more fascinating to own.

There are a few Cartier models that I like the look of, and have tried on. There’s not one that has stuck though, to the point of buying it. I’ve been seriously considering putting in a custom order for something from the current line, but with a couple of very minor tweaks. You can get stuff from them with Journe, JLC, Piaget movements, just most of the stuff under 10k isn’t that inspiring on that front (they even do a quartz Tank in yellow gold that costs about 11k in GBP…)
@TheRandomWatchDude4 ай бұрын
I think that perfectly sums up how I felt when I tried on the Santos. I like it, but not enough. I figured if I did get a Cartier, I might as well go quartz on a leather strap for half the price of the auto on bracelet. Same look, but half the price

Good afternoon from Texas. I am a fan of the Tank. I have never thought it as feminine but, I believe the person makes the watch. it was worn by Muhammad Ali and John F. Kennedy. A different time but never saw either man as anything other than men. Please, keep your videos coming. Cheers,

The wearer definitely makes the watch for sure, and thank you for the feedback. It's the delicate little nipple crown that doesn't work for me on the tank

i'm not so sure about the movements.i have a friend who bought one around 3 years ago and after around a couple of months it started going very fast,it wasnt magnetised and cartier had it back twice before it was running satisfactoraly and they never told him what the problem had been.he's still got it and says its running ok but to me they should have replaced it,no way its worth 6k imo.

Agreed, it's not a great movement, but it should be reliable at the very least!

Hi I like you have thought about Cartier and that model is the only one that appeals to me have tried it on looks great I'd go for the XL because I have very big wrists.but as like you it looks really good if you're wearing a suit and more formal clothes and if that's your uniform in your day job it works.but for me that's not the case would probably only get used once in a blue moon. I would just be buying it to say I have a Cartier in my collection and that's not a good enough reason for me. great to see you back not seeing a video for a while John

Thanks John, been struck by Covid lately so not felt like talking about watches for a couple of weeks or so. Yes youre absolutely right, about only getting one for the brand value if owning a Cartier. Materially I don't think it's a great watch.

Odd that you noted “deal breakers” whixh are on some Santos models…not sure which version you looked at. Also, I don’t see the Santos as a feminine watch…you make the watch what it is. But if you’re a little insecure then you’d probably worry what someone says about your watch…and buy things that you feel comfortable wearing. It’s unfortunate because this is a great watch to enjoy on the wrist. If you build a large enough collection you see your presences mature and insecurities evaporate. Hope you eventually have 40-50 in your rotation to choose from and enjoy every one of them.
@TheRandomWatchDude4 ай бұрын
It's a very effeminate piece of man-jewellery and I like watches a little more matt, and tool-like. There's nothing insecure about that. It's just personal taste. 40-50 watches in my collection would be crazy. Life is too short to wear them and bond with them, but each to their own I guess.
@johnd-xd9sn4 ай бұрын
@@TheRandomWatchDude wouldnt describe it as "effeminate" but "man-jewelry" properly describes all modern wrist watches from Subs to Doxas to Pateks to Greubels. Fair description. Imho, miniscule collections just dont offer enough experience...to quote Einstein: "the only source of knowledge is experience." But some people like their pair of watches - not a bad thing either. But collections dont end at #2...thats just a pair. However as you said...to each their own. Keep up the good content mate. Cheers!

@@TheRandomWatchDude five sounds like a nice tidy little collection that allows plenty of wrist time for each. Are any of them vintage or investment grade?
