I made the jump after an evening when a casual player proceeded to knowledge pool lock the table three games in a row but stood and yelled at me when I countered their omniscience in game four.

It's getting to the point where Cal starts a story or is making a comparison and I hear Ian's voice in my head groan "oh fuck here we go".

Honestly, the Bearded Dragon event was so great, letting people walk over and see people playing CEDH and having a great time was a boon. I've since had multiple friends express interest in building/playing!

Great video as always! This was a very good question to asked and answered ,as it sort of.... humanizes people who play cEDH? (for a lack of a better term). Like, I've heard a lot of stories of more casual players seeing cEDH players as boogeymen waiting to make them feel miserable with an infinite combo or something (and I've experienced this first hand at my work in the passed, just playing a high-powered Neheb deck). Honestly, my go-to LGS is whats gotten me into cEDH and its intricacies and have loved it ever since, even if I'm terrible at it! XD Luckily, a lot of the player-base there was already into the format so it was pretty open doors to dive into it (heck that's where I knew Pongo from, funny enough!). I barely get to play anymore, now that I finally have a fully build cEDH deck funny enough, so I grab my fix for it watching you guys, Eminence, Play to Win, Scrybabies, cEDH TV , Etc! (to name a few.) TLDR, thank you for all the awesome content regarding something I rarely get to experience these days! 😁

I have friends who just dont like the interaction levels. They want to play at sorcery speed one or two spells a turn… its just a different game entirely. It comes down to the “im too dumb” or “i dont want to mess up”.

Lua is the goat. Great podcast, i really liked what yall had to say avout the format. Specifically the history of how people have looked down on cedh players in the past. Ive been playing cedh since about 2018 and can confirm 👍 😂

The thing that made me want to push my casual " omnath locus of creation " to its limits was when my pod of two friends would play at my house, my friend would get mad at us for targeting him because he plays only control, n said ok imma play a dif format rq and pull out Elsha the infinite, and that got me to try and push my omnath to the limits and I feel like I did just that but the one time card advantage, just isn't working for me, so I'm proxying a full blue farm deck to make me the villain in our deck, I just got a printer so I've been going ham for these last two days. ❤ really loved the video and I'm joining the cedh format

I started for ALL of the same reasons Lua did. I started playing commander during Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Yuriko was recommended to me by reddit and my LGS. But there was constant complaints that the games went too fast. No tutors. No fast mana. $70 deck with a bunch of alt art ninjas and delve spells. So i got interested in cEDH basically to just be able to play without complaints and without a multi hour commitment (new Dad here)

Ive watched CEDH content since i started magic during Amonkhet. Im fighting a constant battle to not let my decks power creep too much in casual games. Ive been to about 5 different LGS stores in different cities in the UK and never met a single CEDH player. Maybe it’s a UK thing. im very interested in getting into some of these discord groups to play online but i wish i could find somewhere to play in person

I’m an idiot at the table who is simply too much of a paranoid brainiac that always accidentally becomes a monster just because I’m apparently the guy who knows too much. Especially at a casual table I’m the innocent idiot who needed to be silenced for being a potential whistleblower.

@@TheMindSculptors yup, i did watch how you (I presume you're Ian) did the deck. I also watched Rebell's take on the deck. I just love jamming in "can't counter this" stuff. The look on the faces are priceless when putting in Magus of the Moon punishing 3+ colored decks. On a side note, i put in Slicer in the 99 :)

I've seen a lot of tweets and posts saying things like "multiplayer shouldn't be competitive" and I get so confused because MOBAs and sports and battle royales exist, like what do you mean? Really love the sentiment of seeing the feature as a feature instead of a bug. Politics in casual games always seemed so weird to me when wanting to win is so frowned upon. Then there's players who are so silently salty when you ping them for 1 they overrun you even if they won't win just out of spite. Casual is just such a weird place. It's like being around toxic positivity influencers and everyones smiling all the time but really they're all conniving and spiteful because there's this guise of letting everyone "have fun" cEDH just feels more honest to me and I'd rather the challenge be the skill rather than people ganging up on you because you have a blood artist on field and nothing else (poor example but hope you get me). I totally get it, find new playgroups or whatever but a lot of the casual edh scene has this weird toxic undertone to me.

i had been a magic player, sometimes edh, for years when a buddy of mine said "hey man, come to the LGS and try out the commander night." i brought a very medium power deck and met a very immature player. it was no fun at all. i vented to my friend and he said "i know it sucks that our store doesnt allow proxies, but if you can buy into cedh, none of that happens up here, everybody is chill and mature. did some research, made a budget yuriko deck, had a blast, and then i started buying the force of will, mana crypt, etc. 1.5 years later and outside of arena, cedh is the only format i play anymore. if the game goes long sure, but if it's quick we get to play two! anytime i have gone back to low-power edh, i make sure it's with friends. ive had people yell at me for countering an infinite mana attempt in high-power... and hey, if you dont want to learn super complicated grixis lines, just play something like yuriko, kinnan, or tivit. for like $10 of ink from your local fedex

I have been seeing this trend of content creators recently talking about why to join or why don't you join. Why is that? Just following the trend or has the more invested populus notice a change in how many people or what type of people play? I know why I left the community and I'm curious to know if I'm one of many leaving for these reasons.

I go to the LGS to play magic. If anyone picks on someone during a game we put and end to it right away. Just treat people with respect. At the same time try to push in your friends teeth during game.

I printed my whole deck at UPS and pasted them on poker cards. My gripe with proxies is the weight of the cards affect the draw. Proxies will tend to stack. That can either benefit a player or hose them. If you gonna proxy you should proxy the entire deck

I don’t understand why people wouldn’t want to play cedh. You get to play with the best cards! But then again, I’ve always liked to put the best possible cards in any of my decks before I got into edh.

15:41 - 16:18 Those attitudes and behaviors are a serious problem with MTG players. I'm sick and tired of emotional disregulated people vomiting up their toxic nonsense on everyone. Typically no one has the guts to call them out and their terrible behavior dominants the mood and atmosphere. Truly people. I've quit entire stores and playgroups due to that toxic nonsense. Please make a video addressing anti-social, impolite and uncivil players who go unchecked.
