Yea, early season rankings are generally made up of brand recognition, and last year's results; those mean nothing this year tbh. You need to look at the resume as the season is today; A team that was ranked top 10 at the beginning of the year, but at the end is 6-6 really wasn't a top 10 caliber win, so a team who played them at the beginning of the season shouldn't get credit for a top 10 win at the end of the season, makes no sense. Likewise, if you beat a team at the beginning of the season who isn't ranked, and turns out to be a 1-loss team at the end and ranked in the top 10, then that turns out to be a MUCH better win overall.

Texas may be overrated but the argument against them based on the (current) ranking of the teams they beat is kind of flawed. Part of the reason that Michigan and Oklahoma dropped in the rankings is that Texas beat them on the road and on a neutral field. Also, I suspect that Michigan became pretty demoralized after that game and it kind of wrecked them. They expected to win and were instead blown out, at home.
