Angenehmes Video, wie immer. 👍 Die Achsen einfach in eine Drehmaschine stecken oder großen Akkuschrauber und mit schleifpapier leicht die Beschichtung abnehmen bis es passt.

I'm really enjoying your series and recently subscribed. I have a 24' RT and I love it. I like your presentation style and your ability to explain things that you are doing. The overall quality of the video is excellent as well. Looking forward to future episodes!

Hi Michael, thank you so much for your kind words! It's great to have you on board. Are you taking you RT on long trips?

@@MotoWrenchersThe RT is such an amazing bike; so smooth, tractable, but also very agile for its weight. No overnight trips yet, although I’ve done a few longer day trips. I’m planning a few for southern Arizona in a month or so. I’m looking forward to seeing some different scenery and stretching the RT’s legs.

@michaelskinner896 yeah I can imagine that it’s a great, comfortable, yet fun bike. Especially for longer trips. I just moved to the states and compared to Germany…everything is a long trip over here 😅 Enjoy the summer and the trips you’ve planned.

Hi Joshua, another great video, as always!! Where did you found the bearing puller set?
@MotoWrenchers9 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Fortunately I found it on eBay for half the price still sealed. Otherwise specialized tool shops sell it, at least in Germany. Do you consider getting one?
@7113rvl8 күн бұрын
@@MotoWrenchers That depends entirely on the price. What size puller do I need, and can I pull all the bearings off the BMW with that one size?

Yeah that’s a fidly job. I did it recently. BTW If you don’t have a lathe and need to slightly reduce shim you can sand them down on a piece of sandpaper stuck to a sheet of glass. Sanding in the figure 8 technique ensures a good flat surface, double check with vernier. I personally think to have a micro bit of free play is better than too tight. What probably happened with that loose fitting hub is that someone in the past set the pre load way too tight which caused the bearing to overheat and seize and then the case spins in the hub and basically reems it out. Honestly If I ever have my hubs out of the rim again I will do what the Roughchild BMW guy does and get the hubs machined so a standard sealed bearing goes in. You are in the land of opportunity now so endless legend Airhead mechanics kicking around. Have you shipped your bike to the US yet?

Ah, that's actually a really good guess for what might have happened. I heard that the tapered bearings were used because the bearings are too close together for standard bearings. Do you think that it's okay to install them nowadays? Yes, I'm in Virgina since about a week and in the process of getting everything organized and set up. The BMW is at the TÜV at the moment and once they had good enough weather to test ride it, it will stay with my brother-in-law.

When using your callipers, depending on the quality of the brand, the ground tips are often more accurate than the non ground jaws. And a calliper displaying 0.01 etc, doesn't mean it's actually accurate to that minute of a reading. A micrometer is far more reliable for accurate measurement of these fine dimensions, but a calliper should be enough for wheel bearing spacers.

Good to know. Mine just got damaged while moving to the states, so I'll need to get a new one. And a micrometer is definitely also on the list. I still get around without one but at the latest when I do my first engine rebuild in the future, I'll get one!

From what I've heard it was necessary to use tapered bearings because they are so close to each other
