As an American and fan of China Mac, I was surprised he responded like that. I do not know if he was playing for the camera. But, he is smart enough to know that he is not at home and is a foreigner in Vietnam. China Mac is street smart /savvy enough to know that those type of underground places are well connected. I am glad that it did not escalate more than what it did and that everyone is safe. But it is almost common sense. I was yelling at the screen please just walk away put the camera down and walk away. Had he hit that woman, he would have not made it back home alive. I was at home in Seattle at a party near the china town area. This was years ago. I am from the Seattle area. But I was in a neighborhood with friends as a guest. AND I am not Asian. I had my phone out recording the people at the party, the dj, some of my friends smoking ect. There was a group of guys that did not knw me and possibly did not like me. I must have had my phone in there direction at one time by accident. One came up to me and asked who I was and who I knew. another did not say anything and put his gun to my lower right side of my waist. Luckily my friends and the home owners saw it and diffused it immediately and told the guys I was cool, but the home owner asked me to put the phn away and it never came back out that night. I STILL have the footage. That was in my city. But I respected the house rules and it was not on my block. I would later find out the guys were dealers and alot of activity was happening at that party I was not aware of. It is not our rights or rules in someone else's home. Travelers must respect the laws, culture, and rules that are in place by those that live there. I agree with EVERYTHING that you said. Great clarification.

Darren I don’t completely agrees with what u all saying regardless of there a camera or not lawfully it’s not illegal to film there …so it’s completely legal he could of easily took it to the authorities and said he got assaulted if she swang at him. And he didn’t even film the girls …the camera on him minding his own business…not on them …until they call him out aggressively from no where then he reacted back…I respect people culture but when u chose that profession it’s all on you no one force that job on you……I felt if the girls went about more nicely it be a better approach.

If the cops or government is not saying he can’t record, then he shouldn’t be assaulted as a tourist from the USA spending money in that country. If anything, if it’s that big of a deal, why not legally get signs put up? We are all humans at the end of the day. I don’t think it’s fair to compare China Mac with J.Somali. Mac actually cherish the locals and connects with them. Helps them out when he can. You have to understand, there are kind and twisted individuals in Vietnam.. just like in many other places. If you happen to run into a few bad ones consecutively (especially on a short trip), you may turn jaded and hold a bad impression of the whole country as a result
