* List of Topics* 1. The cost of marriage for Chinese men 2. The bride price that must be paid in order to marry a Chinese woman 2. Brides need to get paid to get on and off the wedding cars 3. Brides need to get paid to call men’s parents “mom” and “dad” 4. The cost for dating a woman 5. Are Chinese women materialistic? 6. Countless festivals in which men need to buy women gifts 7. Why is it exhausting for men to be married? 8. Chinese women are drama-queens 9. Society belittles men, yet constantly praises women 10. Why is it hard for a divorced man get a wife again? 11. Why is it risky for men to marry? 12. Women are cheating more?

It's the patriarchy that is backfiring there. China used to be a very patriarchal country before and women used to have little to no autonomy and decision-making over their own lives just like now in South Asia where I live...maybe women are doing these because of what happened in the past. Also, I don't think most women are materialistic even, although they do want to have a decent household where they can decently earn their livelihood and not get raised in poverty. Also, if men seek beautiful and slim women which is demanded from women, they need to look handsome, too, to build up the attraction. Hope it's clear.. also, According to statistics both men and women cheat almost equally and needless to say that's an unforgivable act.

I thing you all have heard the expression Butong de Guojia butong de wenhua. I believe that 1 child policy adopted by china favouring a male than female has taken its tool on the overall gender population. Its easier for a women to find a partner rather than men, hence all those demands required by then as well as their parents. No wonder the level of divorce in getting higher and birth rate declining and population getting older. Being materialist can be good but it comes with price tag. One can not exchange Love, sharing, togetherness and most importantly Compromise with so many unnecessary gifts. As always a wonderful topic to be shared. Many thanks Eileen.
@dogfly56312 ай бұрын
The one-child policy does not favor sons over daughters, but rather favors sons over daughters in traditional thinking. This is reflected in many farming and civilized countries. Instead, the government advocates: "Both boys and girls are born the same."

Access the playback speed controls as follows: *Desktop Computers and Laptops:* open the video, then go to the lower right of the video's screen and click on the settings icon (it looks like a GEAR). On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". Click on the "custom" link to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 5% at a time. *Smartphones:* open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. in Indonesia we also have caili (bride price) but we don't use this word, we use "uang susu" or "uang panaik". If I convert 200,000 yuan to IDR = IDR around 400 million. this amount is too big. I think here just around IDR 100 million or even below depend on the man, how much he can afford. because the money is given to the mother's of bride to say thanks already taking care the daughter. So reducing symbols of statuses (iphone,mercedes etc) and creating new social media discourse about these symbols of status like (why make like difficult for everyone by flaunting symbols of statuses on social media,lets all agree to not show off much on social media,otherwise everyone will do same to feel not left out and seen as poor lowly pauper.)

I'm from New Zealand, and have a chinese gf, she may have been a little materialistic when I first met her, but she has since embraced kiwi mentality, which is that money, materials arent important. But she has explained to me an issue with chinese men, and has said she would really struggle to go out with a chinese guy now. The issue is that a lot of chinese guys are "diewei", which is a "know it all" in english. Actually since she has told me this I have noticed it in many of my asian male friends, its very important for them to appear as the one that knows everything, and being around someone like this can be exhausting.

第一位 diyiwei? Like having to be number one/first place? As to the substance, I'm a white male know-it-all, unfortunately, but I haven't noticed this in Asian male friends (of course, gender dynamics can make very different).

I think what you are referring to is 爹味, 爹 means father, and 味 comes from 味道, which can mean flavor or style. So some boyfriends in China are very fatherly in that they give a sense of security and care for all of the girlfriend's needs. But this also means that they might have a more chauvinistic or traditional point of view that girls need to be taken care of. (My boyfriend is sort of like this, but not so much that it is restricting.)
