Why Couldn't Palpatine Sense Luke?

Clarification: In this video, I’m talking about why couldn’t Palpatine sense Luke Skywalker in general. 1. Palpatine already senses Luke in The Empire Strikes Back telling Vader he senses a disturbance in the Force. 2. He already pre-planned to have Luke on the 2nd Death Star in Return of the Jedi. I’m talking about the idea of why Palpatine couldn’t sense Luke while he was growing up, training in ESB or Luke’s further training before ROTJ. Hope this clears a little bit up. Another awesome short star wars insider palpatine was blinded by thinking Vader could not be turned from the dark side and with his son being shot with force lightning about to die it brought Anakin Skywalker back palpatine foolishly had Luke brought before him ending his life.....until TROS.

I've read another theory on TV Tropes that guesses Palpatine as being too far into the Dark Side to sense anyone super far in the Light, let alone the good in anyone. This foreshadowed his failure in corrupting Luke and explains his underestimation of Anakin's familiar love.

@@robfab5204well, he is definitely good but he isn’t without falls. Remember he was tempted by the dark side when he fought Vader at the Death Star and nearly gave in. True he stayed true to his jedi ways and remained in the light but for a few moments he was tiptoeing the line. And in the legends universe there’s another moment after his wife is killed where he nearly gives in by going after the Lumya who he though has killed her while in actuality it was Jacen Solo, his nephew, who had fallen to the dark side and taken the name of Darth Caedus. Sorry for the lore dump. Just wanted to bring up that yes, Luke is good and has stayed true to his jedi ways. But he has been close to falling to the dark side both in legends and canon.

I like to think Vader being able to sense Luke despite him masking his presence is a good setup to Vader masking his intent before he threw Palpatine down the shaft.

Final and Most plausible reason: He was afraid Ben Quadinaros was going to have his podracing game on Endor and didn’t want to spoil himself. Hence blocking his connection to the force for a while

I believe Luke could only be sensed by Vader because he had love for him, just as Leia could sense when Luke was in danger on Cloud City because she had a deep connection with him and loved him. Palpatine lacks the ability to feel love, which is what led to his death since he could not sense Anakin’s betrayal as it came from his love and affection for his son, so it would make sense he could not sense Luke as he has no ability to feel love and forgiveness, something Luke had for almost everyone.

there's a legends thing I would bring up. force bonds. force users can form certain bonds or links and can become more aware of each of other in certain ways. there's even evidence of such as luke and vader talk telepathically at the end of empire strikes back after their initial confrontation. Luke and Palpatine never truly met and never had the chance to become accustomed to each other's presence in the force.
