No lie. I smelled it. I was instantly reminded of cleaning my home. It smells like my bleached soaked mop. I am not saying that as a put down, it literally smelled the same. That association was off-putting. Aside, I just think it is so brash, unrefined and a bit of a mess. Not for me. It's like they put lavender in, and linalool on top of coranol. Which is like putting salt on anchovies, too much salt! So you get this pungent, brash bitterness.

I would add the prevelance of clones to Creed's resume of failure. If not for Creed's issues with quality control I question if clones would be as popular as they are these days. Once people realized Creed's best offerings could be copied such that the quality was either matched or even surpassed and all for a far cheaper price tag, that just opened the flood gates.

Creed has been phoning it in for quite a while now. Back in the mid 90s, when I was a student, I went into Harrods one day to buy myself a fragrance (hey, I was trying to impress a girl) and ended up buying Creed Erolfa. I knew absolutely nothing about fragrance, and it was a ludicrously expensive purchase for a student, but I loved it. It was amazing. It was this amazingly fresh, natural-smelling scent that also had great performance. I wore it as my signature scent for quite a while. Fast forward a few years and I buy another bottle, from Selfridges this time. I get it home and spray. It was absolutely bloody unrecognisable. It was thin-smelling and astringent. It had none of that amazing natural freshness of what I bought back in the 90s. It was like a bad cover version of 90s Erolfa. The sheer arrogance of Creed to behave this way is breathtaking. That they actually think they can pass off piss-poor facsimiles of their fragrances and no one will care. I'm done with Creed.

My thought with Creed is they fell in love with their ‘history’ and ‘lineage’. Every time they talk about it, it gets more prestigious and ancient. Like the buddy who’s stories get embellished every time. ‘Did you know that Abraham Creed scented Moses’s robes when he parted the Red Sea?’ Then they realized just how much money they could make by cutting corners. I will seek election on this platform.

A lot of the niche opinions on KZbin I'll never understand. You're the only one I see speaking up about this stuff. Others will say something like "it's not my favorite" or "maybe not as good as other fragrances they put out". But a mid level designer puts out a fragrance that isn't a complete designer masterpiece and all I hear is "it's boring", "it's crap", "it's synthetic blandness". 🤦🏼♂️ I think people are too stuck in the thought that money equals greatness.

It's that exclusivity that they chase. When a dacent designer fragrance gets discontinued, like Gucci Pour Homme II, it's suddenly the holy grail of fragrances and prices are astronomical. People weren't really enthusiastic about it when it was available in abundance, I had one and it took me nearly 10 years to finish a 50ml bottle because I hardly ever reached for it.

Hi! Thank you for this video! It's really great seeing someone speaking so openly about this! I had my "am I the crazy one here?" moment with Millesime Imperiale a couple years back... I had tried a sample of MI a few years ago and was floored by how good it was! From that moment on, I kept romancing a full bottle for a couple of years before I decided to actually buy one. When I got to it, I tried it again in store and was like "Huh!? What is this?"... Didn't get it then because it didn't seem the MI I remembered. Got another sample because I thought that maybe I was just being crazy... No way would they have butchered it so much in a couple of years... But upon wearing it again, I came to the conclusion that they actually did butcher it... Completely! I doubted myself at first, as it was kinda hard to accept that MI was no more, but alas... It was the truth. Not even speaking about the less volume with higher prices double whammy! Since then I've tried most Creed fragrances and have been repeatedly dismayed with the road they've taken. I kinda warmed up to Viking, but I've wore VC several times, and it always felt basic and flat. The most expensive windshield wiper fluid I've ever tried... Creed is but a shadow of its former self... Thanks for keeping it real! 👍👍👍👍👍

The first bottle of MI I ever bought, as soon as I sprayed it on, the smell initially was like freshly cut rose stems which transitioned into a beautiful salty slightly fruity floral fragrance that on me lasts 9 hours. I have 2 bottles from 2016 left and I am afraid to try the new Creed formulation of MI. I will have to at some point but I thank myself for buying 2 back up bottles years ago when Notino was in the US selling them at a nice price. I enjoy Milestone and for the money it’s a awesome bang for your buck however I do smell less than optimal synthetic ingredients in it after a little bit that MI never had. I’m gonna have to sample todays MI to see the difference. I do know that todays Aventus smells strange now, soft and is barely a ghost of itself with a synthetic vanilla. Creed was at a time the best and they just seem to be all about making more money while at the same time ruining their current offerings we have loved for years.

Well for one thing, Creed has been sold recently to “BlackRock Long Term Private Capital and Javier Ferrán, the Spanish businessman and chairman of Diageo.”(Diageo makes spirits and beer.) Which doesn’t necessarily mean things will change drastically…. just that their long term strategy for Creed may be of greater interest to some of us. ;)

Forgive me if this point has already been made in one of the previous comments. I haven’t taken the time to read each and every one of them. I understand what you mean in your analogy comparing the consumption of a recorded production of Star Trek with the experience of art as given by fragrances. I think it works well to use a slightly modified analogy. Millesime Imperial can be likened to a musical composition. Every part and note in the composition has been composed and performed to that of a highly skilled, professional, symphonic orchestra. Now, all of a sudden, that same musical composition is being performed with inferior instruments…by musicians that are not particularly skilled at playing music. There is an essence reserved between the two, yet they are clearly worlds apart. All that truly remains unchanged between the two is the name, Millesime Imperial. This has been an issue of contention in philosophy since time immemorial. It displays the limits of language as it attempts to correspond to a dynamic, ever-changing world. Fantastic haircut…by the way.

Thank you for the video! These were my thoughts exactly! My wife and I stopped by a Dillard's a month or so ago to check out the fragrances and was met by a Creed saleswoman advertising the new Viking Cologne. She sprayed it on a tester strip and the first thing that came to my mind was Drakkar Noir, with that barbershop type scent. I'm not sure if it was the batch or due to it being a tester strip, but I couldn't help but laugh a little when I smelled it which I felt terrible for doing in front of the saleswoman and apologized. I do enjoy Drakkar Noir on occasion, but to charge so much for this...yikes; you're right, it is extremely cocky and arrogant. I know its the job of the salesperson, but I'd feel ashamed trying to sell something like this; no wow factor, mediocre, a completely overpriced fragrance. I haven't really seen anyone else mention Viking Cologne smelling like Drakkar Noir, so I could be completely wrong about how it smells on the skin (She offered to spray some on me, but after smelling it, I gently declined). At least Creed still has their precious Aventus to fall back on!

But nobody reacted by saying it smelt unique or expensive. When the sales associate said Viking cologne was £240 for 100ml, I thought she was joking. Creed disappeared up their own rear end. There’s having pride in your history as a brand. But it’s clear Creed think they are amazing no matter what. If armaf crack Aventus cologne and release that clone, I think I’m done with Creed. Clones might be harming the industry but creed are asking for clone companies to rip them off with Viking cologne.
