What really happened: We’re in a post-covid stage. A lot of people got into cubing during covid, and aren’t anymore. This happened in a lot of niches online. I don’t think cubing KZbin is on a decline, I think that comparing to 2020 numbers is bound for the numbers to look worse. We need to compare to about 2019 or 2018 to really look at growth.

I noticed the decline too and think part of the blame is on the KZbin algorithm and part is on the shorter attention span of young viewers. I started cubing and watching cubing content on KZbin in early 2020. Back then, KZbin recommended me new cubing channels/content all the time but that's not the case anymore. These days KZbin is pushing repetitive shorts that all look the same and the algorithm completely ignores high-quality longform content. If people don't even see the thumbnail, they won't watch the video.

5:59 have you heard about the jperm/shortcat theory, basically there is a theory going around that jperm might be another youtuber under the name of shortcat, shortcat is a mariokart youtuber with around 500k subs. a lot of people think that jperm is shortcat because they sound very similar and they both come from canada, more evidence is also that as shortcat started to post more videos jperm would post less and less videos. idk if anyone else knows about this theory but if you do then tell me your opinion on it

I think that cubing hardware is a really important factor as well. Back then there were tons of new technologies discovered and therefore lots different and cool review videos, but nowdays all the cubes have maglev and corner to core magnets and that's it. We're used to that.

KZbin and I have a cubing channel and it’s really hard to get views as a really small creator especially with long form.cubing is hopefully going to peak again I get pretty much all my views from shorts but I have to use popular sounds to get views instead of using my own sounds but I still make it about cubing and a weird tittle
