Pretty sure this was made obvious in the Mortis episode. Sauron is an actual God, hes eternal and immortal. He cannot be truly killed or destroyed. Vader can.

@@Wyatt_Riley the Valars are closer to deities than Sauron. Sauron is a divine-ish being, but more akin to a Fallen Angel, much lower than Satan/Morgoth, but still far superior to mortals and even most immortal beings.

The explanation is a little complex and it would require deep knowledge of the Legendarium but to put it in not too complicated terms: Sauron essentially has an ability that gives him a command that to be overwritten requires either: A: A command of an even higher Authority or B: A restriction of an all-mighty creator (A so-called Ûnat) or C: Plot-armor given by said creator. Now in the novels the Ûnati (One of them being for example the barrier of Unwill, the in-Lore explanation on why Dark lords can't just mindhax the verse.) are heavily restricting Sauron, aswell as beings with higher Authority over such commands. However since the video assumes a 1vs1 scenario, we're essentially assuming that no higher power interferes, which leads to that particular ability being a little out of control. Another problem is, that Darth Vader lacks the means to wound Sauron. You see, Vader's entire skillset is based on physical attacks. And while he used Sith-Sorcery once in legends against Celeste-Morne, the thing is, he was close to the Muur-Talisman, which isn't part of Vader's standard equipment. He would need some type of westernesse blade, Narsil, or something with non-tangible interaction to overcome Sauron's immunity to physical damage. His only power that would affect Sauron is telepathy, though opening his mind to Sauron would actually be fatal to him, as explained in the video. Things are a little more complex with the different versions of Vader and Sauron and I tried to avoid too many confusing elvish words, so I hope this gives you some solid understanding.

I already know that this is a mismatch. Sauron would stomp…unless it’s Dark Dimensions Anakin. Sauron is like the son or grandson of the being that created the LOTR universe (correction needed, help). He’s exceedingly powerful, especially with magic. It took his own craftiness and pride to bind his power for eternity, which consummated in the War of the One Ring, when Frodo destroyed the One Ring. Sauron didn’t die, but he can’t tempt or influence mortals anymore. Dark Dimensions Anakin would be better in putting up the fight, having ALL POWER of the Force itself, including life and death. But this isn’t something Sauron is oblivious about. Sauron wins against DDA, low-mid diff to mid diff. Edit: true, Sauron is not the best fighter. Would lose, but yes, Vader would be tempted and would be possessed. DDA would fair a lot better and could fight Sauron on a spiritual plane.

I didn't see the video before commenting. But recently I'm watching a lot of LoTR lore videos, and I have and read the Silmarilion. I also know quite a lot about Vader. And I have to say, it's not close at all. Sauron absolutely murders Vader.

I recommend you to read the books. They're actually pretty well written and I like them even more then the adaptations made by peter jackson. I don't think you'll regret reading them. I guess the Silmarillion has many similar names and a little bit of complexity, but I can tell you, rereading Lotr after reading the Silmarillion is an incredible experience. I am someone who started with the Tolkien Legendarium and got into the Star Wars Expanded universe afterwards. I basicly had the opposite journey.

Didn’t anakin resist the temptations by the son though? Yea yea I know at that point he hadn’t already fallen to the dark side but it’s still the same man and anakins lust for power is hardly lesser than vaders. So could an argument not be made that vader could resist, if he wanted to? I think that’s actually a far harder question and if the ring can’t offer what he wants specifically (vader never stated he wanted power for powers safe, he already believed himself stronger than sidious) so I’m not convinced he’d be bothered by the one ring.

Vader would win. Not only would he not see the ring as any real advantage, he probably wouldn't be able to use it as he is mostly mechanical. Fighting-wise, Sauron lost to an Elf and a man,, none of which had a lightsaber or magical powers like throwing people around like rage dolls etc. It would also be interesting to see how a lightsaber compares to a volcano for heat :)

He never got bodied by a human. Instead he was barely defeated in an incredibly weakened form, while being bound by Ûnati and restricted in his command by beings more powerful then him, by a powerful Noldorin king and a Numenorean wielding magical blades with non-physical interaction, one of which containg light from a being more powerful then him. Both individuals payed the ultimate price for defeating the mere physical shape of Sauron. And he still came back. Even legends Vader has not a single ability to bypass Sauron's immunity to physical damage, as his only display of Sith-Sorcery was under the influence of the Muur-Talisman, which is not part of his standard equipment.

As for Sauron (Sala Baker, Alan Howard, voice), he would sweep Lord Vader and his Emperor out of existence with a thought (the question would be “which iteration of Sauron?” In LOTR was he formless, banished from the west. In the Hobbit trilogy [2012-2014, Warner Bros., Peter Jackson, Howard Shore], uncounted centuries after he had been “Annatar”, bearer of gifts, in Númenor; and after he had slain Celebrimbor, as the Elf smith had finished the Rings of Power, Sauron had continued). Look at how Lady Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) so effortlessly had swept aside all nine of the Nazgul out of the fallen ruins of Dol Guldur in the Hobbit trilogy. Maybe the Sith pair would sense the disturbance in the Force auguring his arrival, and for a time perhaps might they evade or elude him. I doubt that even Abeloth, the nightmarishly hideous, evil Sith goddess, would prevail. Or Thanos (Josh Brolin) in various movies; Zeus (Liam Neeson) in Clash of the Titans (2010, Warner Bros., Louis Leterrier, Ramin Djawadi). Maybe-just maybe-the Q (John de Lancie, Corbin Bernsen, et al.).
