Darth Vader. Yoda. Two of the greatest Force Users in all of Star Wars, and at their best, each of them can make a pretty strong case for the most powerful being in all the galaxy.
And today, well we’re gonna put that to the test! Using each of these characters in their primes, and including Expanded Universe lore, not just the new Disney Canon, we’re gonna see which one comes out on top - and really, is the fight between them even close? Well lets get to it!

@@animafia-family While Anakin would be the "prime" version of Vader in terms of physical abilities, he wasn't as mature as Vader was. We also never saw the prime version of Yoda. We saw a Yoda that was past his prime. You can argue that Palpatine was afraid of Yoda, and that's the reason he did all the smoke and mirror tactics before the Jedi counsel was destroyed.

No, Vader wasn't the most powerful in the galaxy during the revenue of the sith. Sidious said he (Anakin) would become more powerful than either he and Yoda. Which would've been true... Had he not fight obi wan on Mustafar. But at that particular time no he wasn't the most powerful in the galaxy. Vader hadn't reached his peak. He was still an infant in the dark side when revenge of the sith took place.

Lets look at the facts The Novels confirm that if Luke didn’t stop Vader and Sidious then the Jedi would have been finished. Lego Star Wars confirms that Suit Vader is stronger than Dooku who stalemates Yoda. Star Wars Comics and Shows confirm that Darth Vader and Sidious are the most powerful individuals in the Galaxy. Sidious toyed with Yoda and Yoda exiled himself when he realized this. Suit Vader nearly CRUSHED Sidious when he got put in the suit and found out Padmé died. The fact that Luke is the last hope of the Galaxy should tell you that Yoda was not on Vader’s Tier. Obi Wan in the New Hope Movie is stronger than Yoda and has a precise mastery over the usage of The Force. Sam Witwer had said that Obi Wan’s narrative was to be the strongest defense in the Galaxy. Look at how that worked out against Vader? Exactly. Sidious heavily implied that he held back against Yoda in Order 66 saying he only uses the Lightsaber to spite and insult Jedi. I can only potentially see Yoda beating Suited Vader in Pre-ANH Era before Vader’s powers begin reawakening where’s he’s stated stronger in Empire Strikes Back and stronger in Return Of The Jedi. Darth Vader would dominate Yoda, especially ESB and ROTJ.

I don’t think that any force user has even been more powerful than Yoda. He’s the only Jedi that stopped force lightning with his hands. Young Anakin was super powerful especially after he first turned but he lost to Obi Wan. Yoda said that Obi Wan wasn’t powerful enough to beat Sidious. Yoda losing to Sidious was plot armor. Sidious tried to exit rather than fight Yoda.

That being said the verdict is right. There's no way Vader is beating Yoda. One of the advantages Vader has on most of his opponents is that they don't know his Identity. Yoda knows who Vader is just like obi wan. And as we saw in the dark Knight rises when bane called out Batman's true Identity... It takes away from the Mystique.

There’s also statements in a couple prequel era novels that imply that Yoda even then was slowing in combat as well as not having as much of a command over the force due to age. Remember yoda would’ve been the equivalent of someone in their late 80’s by the time of the prequels.

The only reason why Yoda didn't go to Mustafar himself to stop Anakin is because he would have been sending Obi-Wan to his death to face and square off against Sidious. Even though Anakin had off the charts power when he finally fully connected with the dark side, he would have made fatal mistakes facing Yoda. Yoda had the clear advantage of centuries of knowledge in the force over Anakin. Yoda would have defeated him and finished him off. Probably would have cut off his head in a final blow. Especially after reviewing the files and seeing what Anakin had done in the Jedi Temple. Yoda knew Anakin was nobody to underestimate.

Yeah, DanCo really dropped the ball. In Canon, it was blatantly established that Vader's injuries amplified his power in the force, not hindered them. Vader was even stated to be the most powerful sith in the galaxy, with one of said statements even being attributed to Vader not even a decade after Episode 3. Yoda at his prime was still a drop in the ocean that was Vader's power. In Legends, although Vader lost potential, he still remained immensely powerful, with material blatantly stating that Vader became stronger following his defeat on Mustafar. Vader wins, mid diff.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you. It's definitely Darth Vader, tho I would argue the battle is closer than most. Yoda is a powerful duelest but doesn't have the endurance to continuously fight, especially with Vader being even more skilled in both lightsaber duels and the force. Anakin lost to Obi Wan due to him being all tunnel vision and addicted to the darkside that it blinded him.

Is your claim that Vader was faster than the Emperor made off that one scene is lords of the Sith novel where Vader blocked Palpatine’s strike? If so there’s important context of knowing the Vader confirmed that the Emperor was only using a fraction of his power that day a wanted to appear weaker than he actually was inorder to test Vader’s loyalty. It’s more than likely Palpatine could be MUCH faster than he was showing off in that moment.

Why KZbinrs that put this characters against don’t know the canon??? Yoda in his own canon comic admit to the obiwan ghost that at the time of new hope Vader becomes more powerful than him and that he is too strong for him to beat. So Vader is stronger than Yoda confirmed by canon. This is in the canon comic “Yoda” issue 7 or 9.

In Disney Canon, Darth Vader wins. He didn’t lose any force power after Mustafar, so he just continued growing in power. I’d say Yoda still has more skill in lightsaber duelling, but Canon Vader is so much more powerful in the force that he likely beats Yoda, especially when we consider his advantages in strength and durability. However, in Legends, Yoda absolutely gigastomps Vader. ROTS Senate Yoda is already fast enough to speed blitz tf out of Vader, his advantage in duelling skill is even bigger than it is in Canon, and Yoda is easily more powerful in the force. In legends, Vader did become less powerful after ROTS, which forced him to adapt and change his fighting style a lot. Vader did become a better duellist and was way smarter than he is in ROTS, but he still had a lot of catching up to do after Mustafar. Still, yoda is more powerful by feats, is a much better duellist, and the speed gap is insane. ROTS Senate Yoda is fast enough to match (and arguably outpace) ROTS Post Order 66 Darth Sidious, who’s faster and more agile than ROTS Pre Order 66 Darth Sidious, who was fast enough to duel mace Windu at such insane speeds that ROTS Anakin Skywalker couldn’t even perceive him and mace (they appeared to be flickering in and out of existence from his PoV), and Anakin is faster and more agile than ROTJ Vader due to not having the heavy suit weighing him down. So Yoda blitzes tf out of him. And keep in mind that this is just ROTS Senate Yoda. Yoda continues to grow in power, skill, versatility, and knowledge after ROTS, till reaching his absolute peak in TESB. TESB Yoda handwaves Vader easily.

And yeah in the EU Yoda beats him but if we go by Lucas canon I think Vader can win at least in the force but in saber combat he’ll lose if he doesn’t use the force to assist him. By ROTJ Vader definitely grew more powerful than yoda

Star Wars fans are perhaps the worst when it comes to vs debates cause all Star Wars fans do is cherry pick statements to form their arguments. I can easily give you canon statements that yoda is the best duelist in canon. But by feats and abilities, yoda has centuries of duelling training and refinement over Vader, mastered the seven forms to a greater degree, has trained better duellists, and has better feats against more skilled fighters. Canon Vader has struggled in lightsaber combat against foes vastly less skilled than yoda. So yeah I’d rather have yoda’s skill than have a baseless statement from some little sourcebook. Lucas’s G-Canon is completely different from legends continuity. Lucas straight up confirmed this. In legends, yoda has better feats of power and has way more knowledge of the force

@@tvvistedv3nom26I mean, the thing is, G-Canon, Disney Canon, and Legends are all basically different continuities with different power levels for each of the characters. A might beat B in G-Canon and Legends, but not Disney Canon (Yoda vs Vader for example). A might beat B in Disney Canon and Legends, but not G-Canon (Old Ben Kenobi vs Qui Gon Jinn for example). It all depends on what versions of the characters being used in the vs battle. In a Legends battle like this one, G-Canon scaling isn’t relevant.

Your completely wrong on understand Anakin’s situation and powers, when Anakin was fighting and lost to Kenobi his powers were by far the strongest force powers any Jedi, Sith or living being ever had and ever will be, it’s just he could only tap into around 20% of the powers he had. He didn’t have the knowledge or understanding to use his powers correctly. He was also reckless and overconfident in making stupid mistakes because he let his power get to head without knowing how to use them properly and his emotional state wasn’t good. Also the Jedi really limited him from using his powers properly and not even letting get into the the restricted archives of the library. If he didn’t lose to Kenobi and trained for another say 3-5 years without any limitations or having the Jedi from holding him back then he would have become insanely strong and pretty much unbeatable. Also if Anakin didn’t lose to Kenobi Palpatine would have taught Anakin everything he knew about the force, ancient texts and even lightsaber form variants and more which was a huge amount of knowledge but because Anakin lost to Kenobi which also made him lose at the very minimum 50% of his power but probably more closer to 60% maybe more. Palpatine saw him as a failure and changed his mind about sharing any knowledge to Anakin/ Vader since he didn’t think the damaged Vader could even surpass him after losing so much power. After the loss to Kenobi Palpatine pretty much taught Vader absolutely nothing and actually limited Vader with the terrible technology to his suit and made him suffer even making Vaders suit very weak to force lightning attacks and making it heavy a clunky. It would have been awesome to see a Vader with a suit of the best technology the was made out of besker that was also light and nimble but Palpatine was a prick 😂

There were far more powerful force users than these 2 in the Legacy timeline. That said in this case Yoda wins, if Anakin didn't lose a lot of his potential then he would have outclassed them all, but Kenobi ensured that wouldn't come to be!
