@@dustinburkhart8526 Funny how you hate the haters. Vicious circle, ha ha!. It's all good; I just wanted to add my thoughts in a friendly way. I just watched a multi-part documentary on Star Wars (the first six). It's always the same problem: the target audience. Star Wars was a movie for kids. But kids grow up. I was about 5 years old when the first one came out in 1977. Empire came three years later, and I didn't like it as much, even if it was the best one of the trilogy. Because the second one was more mature, more adult (the only time in the Lucas franchise, except maybe Revenge). Then Return came in 1983, and I loved it so much (I was still only 11-12 years old at that time). But the teenagers who saw A New Hope loved the second one the same or even better than the first one, but as almost adults in 1983, they didn't like Return of the Jedi as much (replace Jar Jar by the Ewoks). The same thing happened to me with the prequels. I was an adult then, and too many aspects of the movie were stupid and childish for me. I wasn't the target audience anymore. But I still enjoyed it a whole lot. But I was happy The Matrix beat it in the awards seasons. Now don't get me started on the Dysney's Trilogy (worst everything in the history of anything).

Honestly, my favourite performance is Ian McDiarmid as Darth Sidious. He might not have that much screen time or do that much physically, but there was a massive difference between Darth Sidious pre Mace Windu duel and Darth Sidious post Mace Windu duel. BEST 'Easter egg': at end of credits, music is "Imperial March" followed by sound of Vader breathing
@jesustovar25497 ай бұрын
This is why I stay during the credits, aside from the fact, music is beautiful (I conduct it), Anakin's Theme is so underrated, how it slowly transforms into the Imperial March, is a more happy and beautiful version, but also tragic, even if John Williams didn't knew how Anakin would evolve in the other two movies.

I don't even know how many times I've watched all of the Star Wars movies. I was 10 when the original movie came out in 1977, and I've loved (almost) every entry since. While many in my age group were disappointed in the Prequel Trilogy, I absolutely loved them. I never understood the hate thrown at both Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best. They did the exact job that George Lucas wanted them to do. Hell, even in Episode II, Hayden Christensen caught a lot of undeserved hatred. The problem was that some fans couldn't see the forest for the trees in the way. He was SUPPOSED to be an angsty teenager who was being told to repress his feelings for a certain someone, despite everything pushing them together (including, now doubt, The Force itself). But back to Episode I..... the Podrace was quite exciting, young Anakin leaving his mother was emotionally charged, Duel of the Fates was some of the finest music ever put into a movie, and those of us who had read the original books already knew Palpatine was the Sith Lord hiding in plain sight. Also, despite knowing that politics played a huge role in his rise to power..... many in my generation bitched up a storm about it. It was stupid.

I'm a 20 year old fan who started Star Wars with the prequels when I was 10, I never understood the hatred either, I get some of the criticisms like Jar Jar (never hated him) or Anakin & Padmé's romance and performances, but the story in general is great, it adds so much to the lore, expands the galaxy, the political intrigue made it even more interesting, may I say "realistic", I'm from Venezuela and I know what is an economical blockade from the U. S. while people are suffering and starving, and how charismatic politiians turn up to be corrupt and being in powerful possitions just like Palpatine. Near where I live, a theater is playing all six movies, Phantom Menace was AMAZING in theaters, the sound design, the music, battles, the duel with Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Maul, there were fans of all the ages, even my Mom loves the prequels, so does my Godfather and my Great Uncle, they all grew up with the original trilogy (the latino/mexican dub is incredible).

Actually, i want to clarify one thing. Jake Lloyd wasn't actually bullied for his role on star wars, and those that posted reveiew that negstively talked about him never made it to him. He suffered from a mental illness and left acting due to that illness. It was not in any way related to being bullied. In fact, he openly talked about how he loved being a part of the movie and how he was treated after. Nothing ever bothered him. The source for this information is from an interview that was done by his mother. She openly stated that he didn't even care to read the reviews because he was happy with the movie and he had fun making it. So, people, you don't have to stress about how people treated him, because it was actually a manipulative article that tried to link his mental health and exodus from acting to the "mean" reviews from toxic fans. But none of that was actually true. Most people STILL believe it, though
@Skute7 ай бұрын
Mostly right but he was bullied in high school. Not by Star Wars fans though. By people were making fun of Star Wars in general.
@vanguardraidcommand22857 ай бұрын
@Skute apparently that's not really true either. The extent of that was that kids made lightsaber sounds in mockery but that never bothered him. And that he was happy because of it.

One thing I’ve noticed is how it absolutely ruined the characters of the Emperor and Yoda, and it’s made the original trilogy a little less enjoyable. When I was 8, I liked lightsaber Yoda, and I thought the “Palpatine” was really smart.. lol. Rewatching all of these as I have matured has made me realize how much they obliterated these two archetypal characters: Yoda: Yoda was the wise sage, strong in mind but not body. In fact he was _deliberately_ an un-intimidating character, 2 ft tall, with dialogue about how “size matters not,” in order to make this very point: physical prowess is not everything. He was wise and in tune with a higher “goodness” aka the Force. And that alone made him formidable… fastforward to the prequels and he is twirling around with a little lightsaber… Oh… I guess… you are an action hero too. Just like everyone else… And I guess all that stuff from the OT was BS. “Size matters not,” really meant “Size matters not as long as you are still very physically gifted and agile.” There is only one explanation for destroying this character too: Merch. You can sell lots of toys, and video games, and other crap the more saber wielding action heros you have. After all George had made a fortune off that since the 80s. And that pretty much has driven every decision in star wars since ep 1. Toys toys toys. Junk junk junk. Mark my words, we are never going to see just a normal red lightsabers again. Why? Bc Vader had one and you have to release a new goofy design to sell something new a la Maul’s double-bladed, Dooku curved hilt, Kylo abomination. I wonder what is next, maybe an ax-shaped periwinkle lightsaber idk but you could sell lots of toys and legos prob. The Emperor: There was this deliberately mysterious character in the original trilogy called “The Emperor.” In fact that was it… they gave him no other name… he wore a hood covering much of him, looked satanic, and you knew pretty much nothing about him other than him being “The Emperor.” This was all on PURPOSE because he was a personification of evil, Vader’s metaphorical and _literal_ master, “The Emperor.” It made the _literal_ point: Evil is Vader’s only master. The original trilogy had no trendy morally ambiguous stuff like everything these days.. it was truly a story of good vs. evil. And by having a mysterious character appear who was the master to the main bad guy of the story, Vader, underlined the very straightforward point that Vader fell to the manipulation of Evil. It was mysterious and therefore scary, and he had no lightsaber yet powers that no one else had again to emphasize this. A mysterious and powerful dark force. Aka Evil. The attempted seduction of Luke by “The Emperor” offering him power was symbolic of the call of evil that Vader fell to. None of this is to say that the Emperor was supposed to be a figment of their imagination or anything… no, he was a real guy, but we just deliberately were _not_ told his background because it would kill the metaphor and archetype. Less is more for a bad character sometimes, and we were deliberately told _less_ so that he would work as the personification of evil. Now the prequels- it’s Sheev Palpatine everyone. That’s his name. He’s kind of a Dick Cheney type of guy. We get to see that he has secretaries and an office and does conference calls and zoom and proposes legislation and all that. In other words he is now a completely normal, boring human who happens to have bad guy powers. Boring and ruined. No longer intimidating, no longer dark and mysterious, no longer metaphorical. Just some mitch mcconnell type guy, cool.

@@minabee369 I'll agree to that, but SW has branched out and has plenty of different themes and tones with its growing target audiences. The cartoons, D+ shows, trilogies all have different parameters that add variety. IMO, Andor hits more on the backstory and shows that other 99% of the galaxy that isn't influenced by the force. You can only do so much with having this small box that you're putting SW in. I think SW should hit every genre to mix it up or else it will get stale.

I actually liked the character Jar Jar. Sure he was “annoying” but who cares? His clumsiness is part of the charm

Never noticed Ewan’s hair, and I still don’t see the difference

I never got the hate for jar jar binks, he has a lot to do with the events of the phantom menace, he’s just a silly kind of character for humor and it is a children’s movie.

I like a the phantom menace always did … always will …a story has to start somewhere…

To be honest…the world would probably be better off WITHOUT the Na’vi and two Pocahontas in Space films…let alone THREE MORE!!!!!!! On a more positive note, if it weren’t for Jar Jar suggesting that emergency powers be given to Palpi in Episode II…the ENTIRE OG trilogy wouldn’t have happened

Padme in the clone wars was much better and the Anakin kid was really good in the pretender tv show

I think I was 5 when I first saw this movie, Jar Jar was hilarious to me at the time. Just remembering the times I laughed at that age, makes me militant against the Jar Jar haters. Come at me lol

Sorry but the only good thing about the phantom menace was like you say the saber fight with qui gon,obi wan and maul and John Williams score. Everything else just a mess.

When the movie begins Palpatine is the apprentice 🙃
@williambryan33467 ай бұрын
No, Palpatine, a.k.a. Darth Sidious, was the Master. Darth Maul was the apprentice. Sidious even referred to Maul as his apprentice when he was speaking to the Trade Federation leaders in a hologram.
@setokaiba34587 ай бұрын
@@williambryan3346 no, Palps kills his master off screen DURING this movie. When Anakin lands on Corasaunt Palps is still the apprentice. Maul is an assassin NOT his apprentice

Phantom Menace was a great movie. It was looked down after the rest of the films especially attack of the clones.
