No. But her own talents, limited as they may be, are still considerable. She took what she did have, and ran with it. Even Aretha, Whitney, Donna Summer , Mariah and Janet and others have paid her hommage. She broke the glass ceiling making it possible for Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Rihanna, Lizzo and others to go beyond the expectations of the white music industry. As a black woman Diana Ross has to be ridiculed for the rest of her life. This woman is very upstanding on stage. She is still selling out venues year after year. She has outlasted everyone who came after her. MJ, Luther and Whitney Houston just to name a few. And did you know that Diana gave trust funds to all 3 of Florences daughters? Despite the fact that Diana already has her own kids and family she still did that and she did have to. So nice how Mary Wilson conveniently left that out and many other great things Diana has done including helping out Mary when her times were rough. I know it makes you sick to your stomach to give Diana any credit. SMH.

This video is a bunch of crap and most of this is not even in Mary Wilson's book. At the time of her death, Florence was on decent terms with Diana. From the get go, Berry Gordy was only interested in Diana's voice; he nearly pulled her from the group in 1963 before they had a hit record to make her a solo act but decided she wasn't ready (and she wasn't). Florence had a very good voice, to my ears sonically a cross between Sarah Vaughn and Gladys Knight but centered higher in Aretha Franklin's range, but she wasn't much of a song stylist. Gordy fired Florence due to her drinking issues; today instead of firing her, he would send her to rehab.

Gordy and Ross found a few sore spots with Flo and they picked and picked and picked. YES, Flo started drinking and all of that other shit in Mary's book but prior to that Diane was already envious of Flo's potential, as well as insecure about her own looks and voice.

The issues that caused friction were the elimination of solo spots of Wilson and Ballard. These were done in performance (on tours). If course, they were upset about the changes. However, don't come back to tear the group down. At this point the group was booked at least two years. I do believe Berry Gordy, Jr, had plans for Wilson and Ballard. I wish Miss Ballard believed that.

This is a good post, William. I like your analogy of Flo’s sound. I think she wasn’t much of a “vocal stylist” because there weren’t many opportunities for her to hone her craft. Neither Flo nor Diane sounded great in their very early Motown leads. It’s funny because Mary always sounds the best to me on lead in their no-hit Supremes days. I absolutely LOOOVE “Baby, Don’t Go.” I realized a few weeks ago that a young Mary Wilson had fashioned herself after Arlene Smith, the lead singer of The Chantels.

@@ceeceetracey9839 there are a couple of breakdowns of Flo’s life on YT. Like how she’s a rape victim of the 1st basketball star who got drafted with out going to college, yes she was a Supreme during the time. The story about how the record label fired her, they stole her credits, and her lawyer stole her money which ended up her being broke. Then she got on meds from being over weight and then passing. So I’m guessing ‘ depression weight and harsh pills ‘ She also never had beef with the girls and said they where like sisters. So when people say talk about Flo issues. She was a child out of like 9 people that was in poverty, taking care of her family. The points of the video is to show Ross is actually an issue. She climbed a ladder by having sex with elites, top producers & musicians. She was rewarded for such behavior. When Michael Jackson was a kid, he was living with her and they ended up dating down the line because she was grooming him. Karine Alourde KZbinr talks about to the MJ situation, her channel is about old Hollywood lifestyles & spirits. She’s originally from Hades based in Africa. So her point of views will be deeper.

Now when Flo left the group; I really hated to see it. Then when Dianna left it was bad. All we had from the orginal good sound was mary. THE SUPREMES ARE ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC, TRAILBLAZING VOCAL GROUPS IN MUSIC HISTORY. So why has there been no movie biopic or miniseries??? Or a tell-all book from the diva herself?? It doesn’t even have to TELL ALL. Give us 75-80%. But no, she won’t do it. Ladies and gentlemen, if nothing speaks to ross’s guilt of horrible actions and behavior this does. Their miniseries should’ve came out shortly after the Temptations series based on Otis Williams book. As a matter of fact, the Supremes should have came out first being that they were the biggest Motown act. Otis Williams had nothing to hide. Please don’t come with the “she’s private” act. She’s “private” about her time with The Supremes and has only ever spoke vaguely and briefly about them. You can’t be that big (the supremes were huge) but HUSH HUSH. That’s not how it works. Ross got the VIP treatment because she was the lead singer of the first black female group to sell over a million records, three years in a row. No other black female solo artist, or group, had ever done that. The Supremes remain the most successful group in Motown's history with their 12 #1 singles. Ross sleeping with Gordy certainly didn't hurt, but nobody in the company was about to mess with the success of her as lead singer, not with all that money rolling in. Here's what happened.....Frankie and his group were writers of the song. Eventually, his manager broke up the group. He kept Lymon on as songwriter, yet removed the other boys' names. The royalties went to Lymon's estate, and the Manager's, Mr. Levy. None of the boys was able to get A PENNY off a song they co-wrote! Apparently, YOU DIDN'T KNOW that Diana Ross' version, a million seller as well, PUT MONEY INTO THE ESTATE, therefore, lost girlfriends and wives came forward to claim part of the fortune. And, one of The Teenagers, by this time an elderly man, was able TO GET HIS PORTION OF THIS MONEY. HE WAS ONE OF THE SONGWRITERS !!!! It took thirty years !!! By the way, Diana's financial "offer" was NOT out of the goodness of her heart, it came from public pressure. Folks saw how Florence was living and for your info, regular everyday poor folks fed Florence and did her laundry from time to time. But Diana was wealthy and more equipped to cut a big check to dig Florence outta her hole. So they made noise about it and Diana "offered" to save face.
