I remember reading somewhere that Twi'lek as a species have adapted to Ryloth's harsh climate by making do with less to survive. If exposed to generous and plentiful resources however (ie: becoming a senator or crime lord), Twi'lek will become fat because their body are not used it. There are real life example of this. Native Americans and Pacific Islanders who are exposed to western diet (plus not taking care of themselves) have become obese and suffer from weight related diseases once unheard of in their society.

The reason our bodies want to be on the fat side is because our bodies still don’t quite know that we can now afford to control how much food we eat, where’s the rest of human history there were famines and rations. They need to teach the value of food and why we eat it in school, seriously it’s interesting stuff that most people don’t know

Eckhart you missed the possibility that after the barge exploded with Jabba's corpse on board, the heat of the explosion would have cooked the Hutt meat. Bib Fortuna was present on the barge but somehow survived despite it being the middle of the desert. He must have eaten Jabba's massive bloated body to survive on his way back to the palace. Bib has become what he ate, for now Jabba is inside of him.

Both of my examples were of things from the clone wars that they expanded upon from original legends. Abeloth was the mother to the son, and daughter I mentioned. Yoda learned how to be a force ghost from the willes which are from George lucas' original plans for star wars. I'm just saying tcw brings plenty to the table and is closer to george's ideas for star wars than most old comics and novels were.

This reference probably falls under the “Legends” category. However, Rogue Squadron: Bacta War, gives several references to a caste system within the twi’lek culture. Specifically, there was a very clear delineation between the Merchants and the Warrior Castes. It would make a certain logical sense for a people under severe hardship equating great weight with great wealth and social status, outside of the warrior caste.
