Why Did Darth Malgus Kill His Own Wife?

Darth Malgus was one of the most brutal Sith to ever live. Therefore, he probably does not come across as the romantic type. However, he was one of the few Sith to fall in love. Malguses lover was a Twii’lek named Eleena Daru, who herself was a formidable warrior. She had been born into slavery on geonosis and was treated terribly by her owner. However, Darth Malgus made the very un-Sith like decision to save her, and the pair soon became lovers. Just before Malgus sacked the Jedi temple, Eleena told Malgus that she wanted to settle down although Malgus rebuked this, stating that his loyalty lay with the Sith Empire. However, in that moment he was apparently struck by her beauty and passionately kissed her. After the sacking of Coruscant, the pair became even closer, and she even began using his birth name, Veradun. However, one day, a Jedi hunted down Eleena, planning on killing her as a way of hurting Malgus. But Eleena explained that there was still good in Malgus although admitted he mistreated her. With the Jedi believing Eleena was a mentally broken individual, her life was spared. But Malgus, sensing his lover was in trouble rushed in, confronting the Jedi. After a long duel, Malgus won. However, he again acted in an un-sith like manner, sparing the Jedis life because the Jedi had spared Eleena’s. Realising he was falling towards the light side because of Eleena, he thrust his lightsaber into her heart, ending the his doomed lovers life. Malgus was methodical, he killed her because he didn’t want anyone to use her against him and with that severing of the bond, he used the pain of that loss to fuel his rage. Malgus and Vader are not the same.

He did it for two reasons To “protect” her from being killed or used by his rivals Having her dead by his own hand is preferable than to have her tortured or held hostage by Malgus’ enemies The other reason is that one with the Force, she becomes part of his power, he’ll feel her always and draw strength from her. In his point of view, he was protecting her by killing her and making her part of his strength as part of the Force

No. Malgus knew that this was simply the first time his enemies would use his lover against him. Be it jedi or sith others would seek to exploit this weakness of his. He decided the best thing to do would be to kill her, preventing anyone else from going after her and using that loss to fuel his connection to the darkside even more. Also choosing lovers wasn't unsith like, it was actually very sith like. The sith fully embraced all passions including love. Granted this love was typically for more selfish reasons such as making heirs to continue the bloodline, however many sith did care for their lovers and children

I think Malgus loved her, but in his own twisted way as you described. He loved his wife and she had effects on his heart and pulled him to the light, but Malgus loved power and desired absolute strength more. For someone like Malgus, what he had with his wife was probably as close to love as it could be. His form of love was very self centered and abusive, but in his own twisted way love nonetheless.

No, he did love her. If he did not, he would not have responded to the jedi kidnapping her. After all, possession's can be replaced, and, further, he spared the jedi, for sparing her life. Again, a strong reaction, if she was a mere object. And further, he cried, when he killed her. Not the reaction of someone breaking a prized object.

Possibility.....but if you read the revenge of the sith novel, which is 10 times better then the movie, they go deeper into anakins psyche... obi won explains how anakin isn't loyal to the force he is only loyal to the people who are important to him... a perfect example of this is him turning to the dark to save his wife or him turn back to the light...which is extremely hard if not impossible once you go to the darkside, just to save his son...the force was only ever a way to protect the people he loved..after he lost everyone all he had was sidous so he stayed loyal to him and im braced the dark.

But to me it further displays the notion that Anakin was the chosen one to shake up the rigid and oblivious way the Jedi had constructed their order around the force. The Sith had recognized their problems in the Dark side and showed flexibility in the rule of 2. The Jedi summarily did away with all emotion and loving connections because they MIGHT be a problem. I really hope the canon introduces grey Jedi to futher explore the limitations of the Jedi order and tries to explore more why the dark side inevitably destroys no matter how someone tries to balance it, but perhaps shows a stalemate between the traditional order and upstart grey Jedi ideals.

I can confirm, he did love her. I understand his reasons. I make it clear to girls, very early on, that I am a cold and aloof person, I don't do love. They are with me for sex and companionship, but not love. If they are ok with that, great, stay, if not, great, leave. And if I do start feeling love for a girl, I make sure to get away from her, and keep her away from me, as fast as I can. Love is a weakness, a gap in the armour, it can, and it will, be exploited. Best to give them nothing to exploit.

Considering the Jedi order is against relationships of Jedi's in Sith's eyes relationships should be on the dark side. So him killing his romance is actually pro-jedi. Also he be acting like the dark side don't save people when it does, hell Sidious himself saved Anakin sure it was for his own goals but so would be saving a girl you like? It's not as if he saved her for the goodness of his heart. Even choosing not to kill someone for her wasn't out of goodness in his heart really, more about his own goals to keep her protected. So just a few things that should've of been thought about when it came to his character I suppose.
