hii, so i had gotten a comment this morning and gave it some thought so I thought id make a small disclaimer. this video is a personal one about how i connected with howleen's character growing up because i could understand why she acted the way she did. its not a g3 drag or anything like that, just me talking a bit about how i was sad how they changed her. g3 is for a new generation and that's ok. the howleen i grew up with is still there. i renamed the video so its a bit more specific about what i talked about her as the first was more vague.

I always thought that the reason why g3 Howleen is different from her g1 counterpart was because she was raised differently. She doesn't seem to have older siblings so maybe thats why?

G3 looks fine, I never got into it either. The old stuff just hits different tho. It’s iconic, nostalgic, I’ll stick with that. 13 wishes was the 2nd Monster High movie I’ve ever seen and I absolutely loved it as a kid too.

Yeah g3 has better diversity,quality etc. but nostalgia is its biggest enemy.they changed a lot, as they should, it’s a reboot. There’s so much better things but it’s all overlooked bc of nostalgia and aesthetic. You can use more expensive ingredients for ur brownies but ur mom’s brownies still always hit the best home made. G1 hits different, it’s iconic and fashionable. G3 has some horrible outfits, some designs r better than the OG dare I say 😭 (the new Venus is better) overall tho, g1 is just iconic, the new one tried to stand out a lot which angers ppl bc of nostalgia. Like the change if clawdeen/howleens relationship status for example. A doll can be anything as long as it’s fashionable and iconic, g3 kinda missed that but it’s getting better.

I love Howleen, she might be one of my favorite Monster High characters. Personally, I liked Skelita as a kid, since I was a half-white Mexican-american “no sabo” kid who didn’t really know much about my heritage.

Well yeah I agree with that a bit, but also if it was a new character I still feel it'd be a bit different in the sense of them not having a previous version to compare it to. Like if you're going to include Howleen what's the point when she has no further connection to her previous counter part when they could have filled her role in g3 with another werewolf just as easily? Then we wouldn't have the "Why is she even here?" Sentiment. It'd be a different story if she atleast still played a similar role of being Clawdeen's little sister but people still complained about any minute changes.

I loved howleen . I think she’s so underrated in g1. I love her and her sister. But I felt her when her sister was popular and cheer leader and she felt like she was lame . She was cool and funny and a good friend . Her twyla are so cute

lagoona wasn't perfect either and we can see he still cared about her but obviously, his strict traditional parents had a lot of control over his life. they were literally going to send him to another school to be away from lagoona and he was obviously upset over this like??? the problem isn't with Gil, it's how the writers treated their relationship making them have racial tension always. they were written in constant hamfisted parental conflict and hamfisted resolutions.

My personal issue with G3 is I think some of it's diversity is kinda feels surface level like I'm happy there is body diversity but none of the plus size ghouls have really cute fashion that might change with that Catty Noir doll coming out. Also Clawdeen being half human alluding to mixed race people where she was clearly an monoracial black girl in G1. Feels like they did that so she would be more marketable since she's the main character now also most of the black coded character have mostly straight or textualized hair. Lastly Ghoulia was someone clearly was nonverbal and the ghouls learned zombie to talk to her. She just speaks normal. I think it lacks a lot of nuance from G1 but the changes it does make are good Frankie being nonbinary, Draculaura being Asian, Twylia being autistic are really great changes but some of the other changes keep it from being great. At least to me

As someone who's read the Frankenstein book by Mary shelley multiple times and has been a fan of the book for years. (as well as been in the Frankenstein fandom for years) I would say that Victor was never written to be a good person or even "relatable" to the average viewer. He's a whiny, entitled, and egotistical asshole who has caused a lot of suffering because he wanted to play science fair for his own gratification. But to be fair, he's also an interesting character who has an interesting way of looking at things from his perspective in the book. I kinda miss the Monster high version of Victor (Sparky) we got from freaky fusion. Because at least that version was relatable and overall a better person lol. (Also your right, the monster never had a name. Hollywood is to blame for the misconception that "frankenstein" is his name to begin with. ) Edit: It's also understandable why you would hate him lmao. I do to KGJHTKJ

I noticed Clawdeen and Howleen switched personalities in G3. I agree that the change to Howleen was a downgrade and she doesn't get much attention. In terms of the show, I like how it is made to bring in a new audience in mind. Frankie, Cleo, and Abbey are my favs in the show. I also collect the dolls since they are sturdy and colorful. If a Howleen doll is made, I hope they give her textured hair since the designs of the dolls are different from the cartoon.

I didn't grow up on g1 monster high so I'm not really familiar with the character's original characterization so when you explained what went down in g1 compared to g2 I'm like yeah that IS kinda weird (referring to howleen's character assassination). I would've loved to see that sibling dynamic in g3 too

Yeah even as someone who genuinely loves both g1 and g3 monster high as a whole (I've had a hyperfixation on this franchise since I was 7 and I'm now 19) There's still a couple things I don't like. Including Howleen when she's not even Clawdeen's sister anymore ɓeing one of them. Luckily for everything I don't like there's atleast 2 or 3 more that I do. For example the increase in rep for queer people and a wider variety of body types being used for the dolls. Also G1 was far from perfect. Abbey having a russian accent despite it not making sense, most depictions of other cultrures being...ify, ect. As long as people can understand that instead of being blinded by nostalgia then valid criticism is valid.

I find G3’s design cool, I just don’t care for it. I interpreted her redesign to be something else. Yeah she wants to be like everyone else, but she looked good. 👍🏾 At least, that’s what I thought when the film came out.

Hi Harriyana, I’d like to mention that G3 is a new generation. A new generation is not never the same as the old one. Yes the characters will have the same names but they aren’t the same characters. My Little Pony is a fantastic example of this, as they have now had five generations. The most popular generation of the brand is G4, also known as friendship is magic. In G4 rainbow dash is a spunky athletic Pegasus that loves a good competition. But in G3 who is Rainbow Dash? A fashion designer earth pony that runs the Ponyville Boutique and LOVES the spotlight. They are both Rainbow Dash but they are NOT the same character. This process was used for the first 4 generations of my little pony but stopped at the latest one where they have continued the plot line from G4 but hundreds of years in the future (which ultimately wasn’t a good idea). Now back to monster high, they are using the Same Name, New Character idea. This has been used in Barbie multiple times (despite none of her rebrands ever being referred to as “generations”), and was also used in Monster High for G2. Yes G2 was a little more faithful to G1 but they were again not the same characters. This video you have made completely disservices the idea of a reimagining. This is Howleen but she is intentionally NOT THE SAME HOWLEEN. the same way literally every other character in the reimagining works. They DID make a new character, and her name is Howleen. You said it yourself perfectly in the video “this is a completely different character with the same name” yes, yes she is.

I remember when the new generation was made and I was speechless. I hate how they completely erased every good sweet part of Cleo and Deuce's relationship and tried to get him with Clawdeen, seemed to get rid of the cool side characters like Operetta and Rebecca Steam, and overall I just miss their old designs and it seems like this new generation isn't for people my age and that it's for younger generations who don't even know monster high aside from that movie. And we can say of course it's not cause it's a doll line for children but me and my sister grew up on the web series, dolls,games, and movies and she's 17 going on 18 and I'm 20 going on 21 so I strongly wished they kept their old designs. Except for Frankie she/they seem fine and still to me seem the same. I'm just nostalgic and sad at how all the stuff we used to have are now gone and it's expected but it never gets easier

G3 is not G1 and doesn't need to be G1. Characters will be different, relationships will be different. Whether G1, G2, G3, pre-retcon G1 content, the novels, the anime, the upcoming comics, or anything else, every version of Monster High is different. I like G1, but not everything has to be it. And G3 has its flaws, but too many people say those flaws are "it changed from G1."

The live-action movies seem to be pairing her with Deuce, the new comics (which are G1 continuation not technically G3) are pairing her with Toralei and the G3 cartoon has implied she has a crush on someone but left like zero hints as to who. We have like three different lines of canon going at this point with potentially a different love interest in each - and tbh each Clawdeen may as well be a different character too with how different each one has been, even the two different G3 Clawdeens have VERY different takes on the half human half werewolf trope nevermind how different both are from the previous generations.

I understand every generation is made for someone else and that is okay tho it is also okay to miss the parts you loved. Your still young and it growing up is a lot and so it's nice to hang out to what we really loved. And even if u were older u can enjoy it at any age, I'm saying that change irl is scary and so its super comforting for something to start the same and sometimes they do. Sadly it isn't the case here but you do also get to sometimes enjoy the new things and at others time u don't and that okay there are places and ways to enjoy the stuff u like even if they aren't in the mainstream anymore. Idk where I'm going with this but I understand ur feelings on the new stuff not always clicking with u and that's okay. As long as all get to enjoy the stuff we love and hopefully all generations can. 👍🏼

@@riddlerosehearts8277 the DuckTales reboot had them change personality and settings and design and story, and it's one of the most successful cartoon of the 2017. Also it makes sense for monster high since it's been 10 years since the first generation started, you can't have the same characters you HAVE to change them
