Why would you buy the DJI Action 4 instead of a GoPro? In this video, I'm going to explain why I made that choice?
I'll overview the main features that I think matter the most about the DJI Action 4 and compare them to the features of my now-replaced GoPro.

I bought the OA4 over the GoPro 11. The video quality between the two are so close. The selling point for me is the Reliability and Ease of Use of DJI products. I love the OA4 so far!

I have the Gopro 8 for 15 months in The Philippines, sometimes freezes sometimes overheats, and a few other bugs. I am starting to dig that dji action 4 more seriously now. Thanks for the review. 😀👍

Almost bought a Gopro 11, but I'm so happy I heard about the Action 4, because I'm going to Antarctica soon and having that Gopro turn off in the cold all the time would be a nightmare.

Congrats on buying an amazing camera. I just sold my OA3 and bought OA4, but with OA3 I had no problem in the freezing cold winter here in northern part of Norway. So you will have no issues with the cold either + the amazing batterylife. I had both gopro 8 and 10, but the freezing and fast battery drain in general + in cold made me sell them one by one. Last summer the gopro 10 even turned of in +10c and complained it were too cold. And when I had 10 with media mod, it was really a pain when I had to take out the battery when mounted on my helmet.

I have a GoPro 9 and 11. Moving to Osmo Action 4, waiting for it to arrive this week. I dont hate the GoPro but I do use the DJI Mic system and having to use a mic adapter to get it to work with the GoPro is annoying. It makes the entire package huge which is what I am trying to avoid. The DJI Mic plugs directly into the USB c port on the OA4 and makes for a much smaller mount. Also ordered the adventure pack for the extra batteries and battery charging pack. Great feature to keep batteries backed up and contained on the go. Also had a lot of freezes with the GoPros where I have to pull the battery out to get the camera to work again.

I'm sure you'll love it when it arrives! The mic & battery pack are great additions & it's so nice to not have to worry about the unit freezing or batteries randomly running out, like on the GoPro!

Great video,really enjoyed it,I have just bought a DJI 4 and had just got it up and running and not taken any video when I noticed it was slightley warm to the touch is this normal as I have had no previous experience with these type of cameras.

Wow. Looks great wish I had seen that before I got the GoPro!! I started off looking at the gopro 8 because you can pick them up quite cheap, but I got sucked in and ended up adding a bit more money to get the 10!! It does bug a lot after just 4 weeks use on holiday it froze about 5 times and each time you need to take the battery out….which is a problem when it’s been under water and it’s all wet!!

Ahh, you were sucked into upgrading! The GoPro will still be better than using your phone, but it does get annoying when it freezes so often! When you feel the need to replace it (eventually), I'd go with the DJI Jim 📷

I have the action 3 (my first dji camera) and have not had a single glitch issue. I have had it overheat but that was recording in a vehicle at 4k 120 and even then it lasted 40 minutes before it stopped recording. No one records at 4k 120 so I wasn't worried about that. I did the same test recording at 4k 60 and got about 70 minutes before it overheated and the back screen turned off. But it was still recording and did so for another 13 minutes before it cut off because the battery ran out. Tested again at 4k 30 and got about the same results as the 4k 60. I then tested the camera at night but same scenario and I got over 100 minutes of record time before the battery died and it stopped recording. The camera was very hot but the back screen never turned off until it ran out of juice. I ran one more test during the summer. I was outside washing my car in my garage. Temp outside was about 90 degrees F and I was able to record about 1 hour and 20 minutes continuous before I changed batteries (had about 6% battery left) and continued recording until I was finished washing my car. LOVE THIS CAMERA. Tried the same test with the Gopro hero 10 when I used to own it and the camera lasted no more than 20 min before it would shut completely off.

Sounds like you've given the Action 3 some thorough tests! I used to have to take 3 batteries out on even short runs with the GoPro & still it died on me on many occasions! With the Action 4 I've not had to change a battery whilst recording out in the field at all yet, it's basically kicking GoPro's backside 👍

I’ve heard the DJI Action cameras are more reliable. I have the Hero 10, and I don’t really any issues with it. But I’m still thinking about upgrading to the Action 4, for the larger sensor, and the DLOG color profile. Great video, thanks for sharing.

I am tempted by the Action 4. Low light and usability. But the video file size is almost double than GoPro’s. 128gb cardi cam record 3:54, almost 4 hours of 4K 60fps footage. It seems on the DJI it’s 2 hours 40 at 4k 30fps. Dji products tend to create huge files. Also the battery door of the GoPro Hero 11 feels more robust and substatial. The Action 4 battery door feels so flimsy, I wonder how it can keep water out. The GoPro has a very positive click when shut, and the seal appears thicker and larger. I am still debating. It would be mostly for water use.

The water seal has worked for me & it's meant to work down to 60m. The files do seem to be larger but I stick everything onto a hard drive, so not much of an issue for me 👍

@@TheDeterminedRunner the seal of the action 4 is good down to 18m not 60m. still even if rated deeper than a GoPro, it feels flimsy, like some underwater cameras i owned by Nikon and Olympus that leaked in the past. The single GoPro door feels well engineered. I will check if dji care covers water damage. I put my video footage into a hard drive. Still I prefer smaller file sizes. If you use a camera for years with hours and hours of footage, it adds up. Or if you go on a trip and your laptop has limited free storage, it can be an issue, although I carry a couple of SSDs. Still I find DJI cameras’ files way too large

Reliability is the main reason why I want the DJI osmo action 4, rather than a GoPro, plus the price with the adventure pack is about the same as the GoPro by itself. Still rather expensive for me, but not like the GoPro and the need to buy so many expensive accessories. I’m definitely thinking that it’s going to be worth it for motorcycle rides, again it’s the reliability that I know it’s more likely to work straight out of the box and not freeze up. DJI has produced a winner.

I was shocked by how far the handle can extend. I'm 6'6 and I can get shots that look like they are coming from a drone. And the batteries last literally forever. I can take this into the jungle and camp three nights and still have battery left.

It’s a shame stills photos aren’t that great. Certainly nowhere near as good as the 48mp stills you get from a Mini 3 Pro drone, even though it shares the same sensor

Sir, I don’t know this but, a 3rd manufacturer made one of those magnets for GoPro as well. -1 reason. The other are reasonable, if you are where it’s not as could or don’t travel any where that could, then no problem. Not saying that DJI is bad all all.

Hi, No I've just checked my GoPro on Linear & compared it with the Action 4 on Standard (dewarp) & the only way I can get the same image in frame is by digitally zooming to 1.2 with the Action 4, and then it's comparable.

Good review but you are wrong about under tree lighting type in jitter problems dji action 4 and you will soon find out how bad an issue this is youtubers need to be spot on if you want us to take you seriously unless you are being paid by dji which happens of course

Thanks Peter, I can only go with my experiences & I've found the Action 4 has performed better than my GoPro under trees, it's certainly not ideal in certain conditions but as I said, it's better than the GoPro Hero 8. Sadly I'm not being paid by DJI or anyone else, though the money would be handy 😉

For whatever it's worth, I bought the Action 4 & have had a whole bunch of problems with it.. A long list of bugs & glitches, making the camera unusable. I have probably 8-12 different issues, everything from the camera turning itself off all the time to battery errors on all 3 batteries, screen turning orange, purple. or green tint, won't run off USB cable, says batteries are dead & shuts off seconds after it just said 80%, & a bunch of other problems. I haven't read a single person have even ONE of these problems so I'm convinced I just got a defective unit. Returned it to DJI last week for warranty but no word as of yet. I just hope they make right on this expensive purchase as the camera seems really nice, but it's garbage in it's current state.

My new camera also had the orange, purple, green tint and completely off rear screen. I had to return it. It's like there is a bad internal connection to the rear screen somehow. The other *major* omission is that you *cannot* use a deadcat or foam wind noise cover on the Action 4, period. If you do you cover the essential color sensor (letter O). This is such a monumental failure of simple design. I was forced to buy the DJI mic and fight with using that instead.

I really like the DJI, but unfortunately I can’t take the risk at the moment with low light jitter that I’ve seen in other videos, so will probably have to go with GoPro 12.
