Martin, really enjoyed the video as much for your experienced insight into the shoe as well as the beautiful and varied trails and terrain that you run on. I like the 7 mm lugs (some shoes have only 4 mm lugs that wear quickly) and the 5 mm drop. Thank you.

Seems like it has a bunch of great features (pros) and not as many cons, which is good. It will be interesting to see how it and its cousin the Freedom does as new players in the market, especially among the fell runners and maybe also orienteers. Tough uppers might be good in cacti country. Are the lacing loops reflective?

It's a brave move to enter the shoe market for the 1st time in this day & age, hopefully they go from strength to strength. Good spot with the lacing loops being reflective Brian, I just checked & they are indeed 😀

I TOTALLY felt your pain! Not my first marathon and done quite a few half's but last min sign up saw rushed training and (unsurprisingly), subsequent injury. Was starting to feel bit sore and tired by 13 miles and by 20 miles, hamstrings were in agony and had completely seized up! Alternated running with jogging for last few miles but was REALLY hard! Still, never had a DNF yet and didn't plan to now! Super friendly marathon! Would do it again but not with only 6 weeks training! Never underestimate the importance of the training timescales, eh?! 😂

That's annoying, I just wrote a reply, went to press send & it disappeared! Well it went something like this - Hope your injury isn't too bad Morna? It was a great course, I'll do it again at some point, not sure when though, maybe next year, just depends on if I'm in road mode or trail mode by then? It'd be interesting to know out of all of the folks that ran on the day, how many of them everything went to plan? I reckon it'd be a small number 🤔 One day we'll learn & it'll all go perfectly 🤞

Congratulations Martin! The Determined Runner goes through and nails it. Does anyone’s training and race day go according to their plan? The overcast sky looked welcome given the lack of shade on the marathon course. What’s next, recovery, back to gear reviews, back to trails, back to training, and do you have other running goals or events coming up?

When my cramps started in the LM at 35 k, I spent the next few km’s stop/ start with around 15 mins stationary , then walked the last 2-3km. Sounds like an excellent price point. A good price and size for a marathon. I'm with you, don't love the tiny front closure system but you pointed out the nice attention to detail securing the end of the cord and easy adjustment. It's a vest without sides that wrap around, which might be a price point saving but I find the side vest pockets handy because they are within reach. Good phone inner pocket suggestion (heavy items in a vest do like to bounce). That a situation where I would like a pocket over a pocket. Usually, I don't understand the pockets on top of pockets because the overlapping pockets interfere with each other (put stuff in the pocket in front of the water bottle pocket and that stuff interferes with putting your water bottles in their pocket). Sometimes I find an empty bottle pocket is better for phones because it's tighter pocket. It does look like 4L on the back plus the front storage, so maybe bigger than expected and big enough that you might be out long enough to want poles so now I'm curious about how well the pole carrying system works--will they stay put and are they out of the way. Overall, the price point means it will be a good seller. I hope it works well for your marathon!
@TheDeterminedRunner28 күн бұрын
Thanks Brian, aye, using a bottle pocket just as an extra pocket without the bottle is a firm favourite with me on lots of runs, if I'm not needing the extra liquid. I'll need to get out with it while using poles & see how it fairs with storing & removing several times, though I think it'll cope just fine 🤞It worked absolutely fine for the marathon yesterday, no bounce on the back & easy access to everything I needed during the run 👍

Martin, very balanced review, thank you. Nice pack when considering the price, and as you said, any improvements would increase the price. I have mixed feelings about the poles being attached in the front. Quick to access (compared to pack that attaches poles in the back), but I would be concerned about freedom of movement with arms swinging when running. What's been your experience?
